I have used avidemux to cut a mp4 file, choosing just a part of it, and I have discovered it automatically adds "avidemux" to the beginning of the name of the file, plus the author of the file and that I cannot edit the file to erase it. Note that I talk about "right click - properties", and that the file, as seen from home folder dont include the "avidemux" prefix, but if, for instance, I run the file with VLC, "avidemux" will appear, and that is annoying. how to delete that annoying avidemux prefix?
I have a folder where all of my movies are placed. Each movie lies in its own folder. I want to write a script which renames all the movie files and gives them the name of the folder they are in.For example I want this file:/home/tryfon/movies/Black Irish /black.irish.dvdrip.avi to be renamed to /home/tryfon/movies/Black Irish /Black Irish .aviOne issue is that the video files are of several file types (mostly avi, divx and mkv).Another issue is that some movies consist of two parts, so if a second avi file is found I would like the two (or more) files to be named like: "Black Irish CD1" and "Black Irish CD2", or if this is not possible at least notify me of the folders that contain more than one video fil
I created a little bash script for renaming files from a folderEvery time i hv to put that bash script file (rename.sh) in folder Is there any ways i will call (rename.sh) from terminal without moving rename.sh into any folder ?ne More Question : Whenever i run any .sh file automatically one .sh~ file created it is my programing mistake or is it exists ?
I have encountered a problem:I have "while" loop; at each run a set of outputs is produced but then I need to shift them into a corresponding folder ; otherwise next run the new outputs will be over-written. Furthermore, I need to pipe what I have on the screen inside a file. I have put my code in the following:
I'm having a weird problem with GNOME. Inside a folder I have several files and when i open the folder graphically i can't see some of the files. If i use my terminal i can see those files. It's very strange!! I've rebooted my computer and the problem is still there (inside the same folder)
I want to move a simple .rules file from a downloaded package which I have extracted to my homefolder, to the rules.d folder. So I open both Nautilus windows and drag it over, and I get the great "permission denied" error
I'm running WoW through wine. In order to install addons I need to give all the files in the program permission to execute as a program. the problem is I can't (dont know how) just right click the folder and give everything inside permission i have to open each one and give them all permission, which can quickly turn into hundreds depending on the addon. how to give permission to execute as a program to all the files in a folder at once it would save me a lot of clicking and time.
I want to copy everything in templates/blue to the folder code/ However: cp -r 'templates/blue' 'code' Creates a folder called blue inside code. I tried cp -r 'templates/blue/*' 'code', but that didn't do anything.

I am setting up a lubuntu nas with all of my music, movies, etc on it. I want to give my kids access to my mp3 directory, so I can move all of the kid appropiate music into the root of my mp3 dir, in the same order I have all of my music sorted. Under the Music folder, I have them sorted, in folders, by letter. So A, B, C, D, etc... Now, in those folders are the respective artists. So where there may be something approipate in the P folder (say, Paramore), there is something inapproipate (say, Pantera)Now, when the kids go to the P folder, I don't want them to even see the Pantera folder. I just want them to see the Paramore folder. I tried a test using chmod 711 and chmod 700 on a directory with a test user, and the user can't access the directory, but can still see it
Running kubuntu 11.04x64 w/ xrender and folder-view plasmoid:
I cannot view "open with" for directories on the desktop (but it is visible w/in dolphin file structure) and whenever I try to rename folders on the desktop it crashes and restarts (but the rename is successful and no open windows crash).
This glitch is reproducible under OpenGL and Xrender; had to switch over to xrender after a recent system update that seems to slow my computer to a crawl after a little time and kept it cause it seems much smoother and crisper.
Is there any way to fix these issues or is there an alternative to the folder-view plasmoid to view a folder content on the desktop that is more stable?
I've got a folder called Foo. In foo, there are 20 folders called bar1, bar2, bar3,...,bar20. In each of those barXX folders there are 2 files. How can i move those 2 files up one level into Foo with one command?
I dual boot a computer from separate hard drives in Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04. Here is the deal: On my windows drive I have a folder that is filled with folders inside folders packed full of files in all the folders. There is a 100% possibility that I have multiple copies of any file in multiple locations. Is there any nice command or program to move all the files in all the folders to one central folder and in any way get rid of the multiple copies? Also, how do I compare to files that may or may not have the same name, but otherwise be identical to see if they are identical?
I have an FTP account that when they log in they go to /var/ftp/uploads according to etc/passwd.I want to temporarily stop the uploads from coming in, but don't want to change the password on that account. If I rename the uploads folder to something else, what will happen when they go to log in since the /var/ftp/uploads path is no longer valid?
I am using secure delete to remove files from a Debian Linux PC. However, secure delete does not remove folders. This has lead me to look at writing a script that would move files to a predetermined folder for deletion. My plan is as follows:I have a folder on my desktop called shredder where I move the contents of the waste bin to. The script needs to identify all files within the folders and sub folders, within the shredder folder, and move each file to the shredder folder and then delete the folder. At this point secure delete can be used with a command like shred -v -u *.*on the shredder folder. The problem I have is in creating the code to move files from the different folders and then deleting the folders. Note that the names of the files, folders and subfolders will not always be known
Terribly new to Linux and find it mindboggling. I work on brain imaging and unfortunately all of the analysis runs on Linux, and I do not understand computers well coming as I do from a medical background. So my question - There are various folders of patient MRI scans (folders called P1, P2, P3 etc) and within them are enclosed certain files that I am interested in (always called the same name in all folders, say image001). I would like a script that enables me to copy and move this image001 in all these individual folders to another folder altogether.
I am using evolution for my email client, and it shows me hidden files and folders in the folder tree. Basically, my email folder is in a unix folder on a system, and that system logs me into my folder when I try using evolution. The downside is that files like .bashrc, .bash_profile and other weird stuff end up in the foldertree view
See how the tree would show bashrc and .lynxrc? The folder "documents" shouldn't be showing either.Yeah, that's really annoying. It showing the contents of the $HOME folder that I login to.In thunderbird those things wouldn't show.It must be evolution specific.Anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?
