Ubuntu One :: Copy To U1 On Upload

Aug 28, 2010

I am a photographer and upload a lot of photos online. Both to Facebook and flickr. But these sites although great for sharing photos with the world are not ideal backup solutions. I love Ubuntu One and try to utilize it as much as possible but frankly I am more than a little lazy. So I more often than not don't back up to U1. The same can also be said about my document uploads to Zoho and class projects. The idea here is whenever a user uploads a file Ubuntu should automatically copy it to the Ubuntu One folder. This would likely be implemented through a browser extension.

Although the idea and basic implementation are simple there are issues that must be considered. These include size, bandwidth and privacy issues. As such the user may not want to copy every single thing they upload to Ubuntu One. But having a popup come up every time something is uploaded is intrusive and annoying.

These issues could be combated through:
-A strong settings framework
-Zeitgeist integration
-In browser dialogues (see the new "save your password/settings?" dialogues in Chrome/Firefox)

Ubuntu Servers :: 10.04 No Upload Folder In /tmp With Php Upload Script?

Jun 13, 2010

have setup a LAMP server with ubuntu 10.04 server edition x86 for my study in VMware Workstation 7.1 For a assignment I had to make a php script that would load a file up to the server and set the name in a mysql database. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.

This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?

General :: Copy A Read-Only File And Make The Copy Writable With A Single Cp Command?

Mar 1, 2011

How to copy a Read-Only file in Linux and make the copy writable with a single cp command in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04)? The --no-preserve and --preserve seemed to be good candidates, except that they should "and" the mode flags, while what I am looking for is something that will "or" them (add +w mode).

More details: I have to import a repository from GIT to Perforce. I want that all Perforce depot files are Read-Only (that is how Perforce was designed), while all other files that were derived/copied from depot files are writable. Currently if a Makefile tries to copy a Read-Only file then the derived file will also be Read-only. This leads to build-errors when cp tries to overwrite Read-Only file second time. Of course the --force is a workaround here but then the derived file is also Read-Only. Also I do not want to mess with "chmod" after each "cp" command - I will do that only as the last resort.

Fedora :: Disk Copy Utility - Should Be Able To Not Only Copy Files But Boot Sector And Everything

Sep 1, 2010

I have a 160GB harddrive which I installed a F12, would like to upgrade to a bigger drive, but I hate to have to re-install everything.

Recommend a good disk copy utility? The utility should be able to not only copy files, but boot sector and everything. So I just need to make a copy, change my BIOS to boot from the new drive and run everything as before.

Ubuntu :: Pictures Not Available For Upload?

Jan 18, 2010

On several websites, such as WordPress and Facebook, when I go to upload pictures, in the window that pops up, all that I see is a big, empty box, even if pictures are in there. For example, let's say I navigate to my picture folder to choose a picture of my dog to upload. Neither the picture nor any of the other pictures in the folder will appear. Just a big, gray box, almost as if the folder were empty. Strangely, random pictures that I have downloaded from the web, such as one of Martin Luther that I have, show up. But even then, not all the pictures that I have downloaded!

This is perplexing to say the least!

Is this happening/has this happened to anyone before? Is it a bug in Ubuntu or have I neglected to download something important?

Software :: Cannot Upload FTP From Ubuntu 9.04

Apr 15, 2010

I can upload using FTP from a Windows machine. On same router, Ubuntu (using any FTP app) will transfer 20KB and then stall, so I cannot alter my own web site. Is there any way round this? Perhaps I should try another variety of Linux. I am certain that I used to be able to upload with an earlier version of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu One :: Very Slow Upload / Speed It Up?

Apr 25, 2010

I have been trying out Ubuntu One for the past couple of days but find it to be incredibly slow. At first i had put a folder will a large amount of images in the ubuntu one folder. The total size of it was 35Mb, after over 26 hours only 11,5Mb of that had been uploaded.

After looking around some on these forums i saw several comments about it being slow when it is a large amount of files, no matter if the filesize is small or large. I decided to try it out with a larger single file. I erased everything that was in the previous share and then put my testfile of 350Mb in the Ubuntu One folder.

After two hours of waiting i could still not see it on the U1 website so i decided to see how long it would take with dropbox and put a copy of that file in my dropbox folder as well. The file was uploaded correctly to dropbox in just a couple of minutes but it has still not been uploaded to the U1 website even though it has been 4-5 hours since i first put it in my U1 folder.

Ubuntu :: Can't Upload Pictures To Ebay

Aug 11, 2010

i can't even get that far on the ebay website. i've been using ubuntu on this computer for years, it all seems to be set up correctly, i have flash installed and can view videos, i have java installed and can view applets.go to url... and click the link on the top right that says sell. log in if you have to, enter a keyword, choose your category to sell in and go to the next page. on this page there's a picture section and the header says, "bring your item to life with pictures." next to it there's a link which allows you to show/hide options for where the picture comes from so you can upload one, link to a website, plus other options. i click the link to show the option for uploading a picture and it just brings me to the top of the page. each time i click that link it just brings me to the top of the page.

i thought maybe it was trying to open a popup window that got blocked but there's no notification in the url like there usually is, it just moves me to the top of the page and that's it.

Ubuntu :: How To Upload And Edit Videos

Aug 12, 2010

I know this sounds like a really silly question, but I'm very new to using ubuntu. I was going to post this in the multimedia and video category but I noticed that the threads are very dead there.Anyway, I have a Canon Vixia HF10 digital camcorder, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to transfer my video off of it on to my computer. When I connect it via USB the computer sees the camcorder, but even after navigating through every folder I cannot find my video. I don't know if I'm missing a driver, or if there's something simple I can do in the terminal to transfer my videos, but I'm literally pulling my hair out trying to figure this out.

Ubuntu :: Cannot Upload Files With FTP To Guest OS

Dec 8, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 server edition as a guest OS in Virtual Box. I am trying to configure it as a web server to use for testing purposes for websites. The present problem is that I cannot upload files to it using FTP. I have installed the VSFTPD daemon on the server. The server is connected to the Internet using the default NAT interface of Virtual Box. I have run the following commands to configure port forwarding for FTP with Virtual Box:

VBoxManage modifyvm "Server Name" --natpf1 "FTP,tcp,,2020,,20"
VBoxManage modifyvm "Server Name" --natpf1 "FTP,tcp,,2121,,21"

The host computer that I am using is a Macbook Pro (Intel) running 10.6.5. I have tried the following FTP clients without success; Mac
command line FTP, Filezilla, Classic FTP, Firefox 3.6.12. I get the following errors with each of them:

Mac command line FTP

$ ftp [2121]
ftp: Unknown port `[2121]', using port 21
ftp: Can't connect to `': Connection refused

Today I noticed, that despite a 1kb/s limit upload being set i was seeding at an unlimited bandwidth, it had been running for 3 hours wasting about 300mb.

I had never seen this before, however 10gb mysteriously disappeared from my 25 quota last month as i dont mind seeding things at 1kb to help people get the missing bits. My 25gb costs me $100 with the larger package being $160 so i dont have much choice but to be stingy.
