Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Wireless Connection - Connect To Internet
Oct 21, 2010
I tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 Maverick as dual boot on my laptop. However when xubuntu is on, I can't find a way to connect to internet. When I try the 2 arrows on the up-right corner the option for wireless is deemed. I tried offline/online, that did not work either. when I click the firefox It says you are not connected.
I've been using this network forever With windows and I can't figure out how to connect to it now with ubuntu...I have a build-in wireless card and I know the name/password of the connection, but my computer cannot seem to locate it. I've looked through guides and none of them work..
i just installed the 10.0.4 version. My problem is that I cant connect to the internet. When I add a new wireless connection, it says that its connected but i cant ping the router or connect to any websites. It keeps auto assigning me with a 10.42.43.1 ip which doesn't make any since because my router's is nowhere close to that.
Earlier today I decided I wanted to switch back over to ubuntu, my internet was working fine, but as soon as i reformatted to Linux my modem stopped showing any lights under ADSL - TX and RX. and I can't connect to my wireless connection anymore. What should I doooooooo
I have just installed Linux Mint 8 to an Asus A6000. My problem is that the computer won't connect with my wireless router. I have tried with MAC-adress and such, but still no respons. I also tried to connect with a cable to my modem, but no response there either.
I think I may lack some drivers, to what I think is Broadcom b43, but I am not sure. I tried to download the drivers on my other computer, and transfered them to the Asus. I managed to install 2/4 drivers, but on the two others, I get this message "Failed to fetch ... Couldn't reach archive.ubuntu.com"
I am running Ubuntu 10.10, and I would like to use my computer to share the internet connection from an ethernet port. For example, I would like to set up my computer as a wireless access point so I can create a network that other computers can connect to for internet.
My laptop has been working fine with ubuntu 10.04, and earlier today it shut down after running out of battery. I came to use itr and discovered that the wifi icon had disappeared from the panel bar, and it won't connect to the wireless networkor via a wired connection.I have had a play around with this, tried ping -c5 google.comresult was:ping: unknown host google.comand ping -c5 184.108.40.206result: onnect:etwork is unreachable.I have other computers connecting to this network and know that it is working fine.
I would like some help setting up using a wireless connection. I can connect using wired connection, and I have no trouble browsing. I have a strong wireless connection as well; however, when I try to browse I get a server not found error. I did download the necessary drivers. Before that, I didn't have a wireless connection. I was able to connect on this pc before the install, and all other devices still connect using wireless. I have a linksys router.
The one thing that stands out at me is the ip address that it says the wireless connection is using. It says it is 10.42.43.1 I feel like that might be problematic because I'm pretty sure my router only accepts connections with values that are between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.200.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?
Its a case of ".... wireless network connection active but still not internet connection .."I am using WEP - 128 key ... Works when I connect directly using ethernet cable ... but not wireless (pci and wireless router)
I have two linux laptops. Currently, I'm using both of them at work, side-by-side. Now the problem is, I'm connected to a wireless router, but the wireless only works on one of the laptops. So I'm stuck with one laptop that has no access to the internet. Both machines do, however, have working ethernet nic cards. So, I was wondering if I could use the laptop with the wireless connection to share the internet connection with my other linux machine and access the internet on both of them. Or as an alternative, just use the internet on the machine without wireless and be able to switch back and forth, that would increase my productivity like 30 fold.
How to connect Ubuntu to the Internet through a broadband connection? I decided to give Linux a try, and I picked the Ubuntu variant. I have some problems with the Internet connection though. I have a broadband (modem-less) PPoE connection, and all the info needed in order for me to connect are the username and password (which I have).
I bought my new Dell inspiron N1401 64bit laptop. It has windows 7 installed in it, I am begineer to linux. I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit version. I have a wired internet connection which works fine with my windows 7. When I switch to Ubuntu, when internet cable is plugged, the top right corner, network manager shows connection is established, but when I open firefox I cannot access internet. I tried searching on forums, but I could not make it work. If I type ifconfig command in terminal attached is the output I get, I dont know what is the problem. I want to use Ubuntu than Windows
I just installed Ubuntu in my PC and I tried to connect to internet using broadband connection. I use a ADSL router with WiFi access point to connect with network and dial my username and password using my computer to connect to internet.I could so it easily on windows 7 from Network and Sharing center and Setting up new connection or network and connect to internet using broadband internet. How can i do it with ubuntu 11.04 ?
I have just installed a fresh copy of 9.10 on an older Compaq nc6000 laptop. I need some help getting my Linksys WUSB600N wireless adapter to function properly.
I have "half-way" connectivity, meaning that I can see (and connect to) my home wireless network but I can't connect to the internet (unless I use the wired connection). I have installed NDIS wrapper - no change
I am using WINDOWS 7, in which i connect to the internet through broadband connection dialer wich requires username and password, aslo i have another connection wich is used to connect to LAN. I hav recently installed ubuntu 9.10.. Now my WIRED connection is showing established..with eth1 and following are the outputs of some coomands which might help u to identify the problem..
My friend is trying to share his clearwire connection with me using Windows ICS. Using network-manager or wicd, I am unable to connect to his share. I am able to connect unencrypted with iwconfig, to the ad-hoc network, and then use dhclient to gain ip address.
I am not able to connect to WPA encrypted share using network-manager or wicd. nm-applet crashes when trying to connect. I am attempting to setup wpa_supplicant, but haven't got it working yet.As usual, the wireless networking out of the box experience in Ubuntu doesn't work. This is extremely frustrating. If Ubunut's goals are to be the default desktop, then these guys need to get wifi that "Just Works"...
I have an ASUS G50Vt laptop with Ubuntu 10.04 installed on it. I have a WiFi Link 5100 wireless device. I use these settings to connect to it:URL...My problem is, once I connect, within 30 seconds I lose my Internet connection. It goes on and off seemingly whenever it wants. Is there something I'm missing? Some kind of driver issue or something else I need to change?I can connect to the non-secure connections fine, just when I try to use the secure one it craps out. Halp?
I'm using 10.04 I tried to connect to a free WiFi connection. I had the password for it too. I had been able to access the connection 2 weeks ago with no real trouble. Now, the thing at the top of my screen indicates I'm connected BUT I can't get Firefox to access any sites. I can't download email using Thunderbird. Pretty strange isn't it?
Finally I thought I solved my problem with the help of Dmizer. My networkcard wasn't functioning correctly due to the hardware switch on my laptop. For more information about this check this thread: [URL]
Now I have a new problem, probably caused by the problem above. I have a connection (so the network manager says) but no internet. I checked the network settings by using the ifconfig command in a terminal. This tells me that I have an address of 10.43.42.2 (or similar) which should be something like this 192.168.x.x.
I had already tried to use a command like "ifconfig release" but this didn't work. I know too much windows like but i had to try something. I also had the connection properties checked and changed to my network settings. After i did this I had still the same address (10.43.42.2 or similar).
Unless someone knows what is going on I'd like to know how to refresh of renew my IP address from the DHCP server.
Some information about my hardware and drivers:
NIC vendor: Atheros Communications Inc. NIC chipset: AR2413 (i guess, i do not have my laptop with me at the time of writing) Old driver: ath5k New driver: ath_pci (installed from madwifi)
I have no wireless internet on my 11.04. I can access my wired connection but my wireless doesn't show connections and isnt able to connect to any wireless network in the neighbourhood. (I had this probz too in 9.10 and 10.04) But none of the solutions work now. I already tried to blacklist the blacklist at76c50x_usb

I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.
I installed Ubuntu (10.04) today and it has gone smoothly except for the fact that I can't connect to the Internet when in Ubuntu (connection works fine in Windows XP). I am using a wireless USB card (Linksys WUSB600N) to connect.
The weird thing is that the card detects all the local networks, asks me for a password to my network, and it even says it is connected to my network after I put the password in -- but when I open Firefox no pages will load.
There is another weird quirk as well: Ubuntu will not restart or shut down properly (it hangs around indefinitely with the little white / orange dots going across the screen) unless I first remove the wireless card from the USB slot. But that doesn't bother me as badly as the lack of Internet.
Recently I had installed Ubuntu 10.04 in which I had connected to the internet by way of terminal (pppoeconf) and I could access any site with ease. But one fine day suddenly I could not access the net, I try to locate the notification icon (network manager),but could not find it.I did this and that, googled it trying to find the solution but alas to my disappointment I had to format it.
After reinstallation of Ubuntu I connect the internet by way of editing connection on panel and i could access the net. The problem is that I could not access some site especially org site e.g Home - Desiring God so can anybody guide me in how to connect in most better way.
I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and everything was ok util I was going to connect to internet. I just cant't find any way to connect to any wireless networks. I'm living in a board school so wireless is my only way to connect to internet. I have a Dell latitude e5500 and I can without any problem connect to internet on windows that I also have installed.

I bought a new Eee PC yesterday ripped off Windows and stuck Ubuntu 10.04 on (which is great by the way). It's all working fine except for the wireless I think I have: RT3090 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe. I've installed ndiswrapper and installed the drivers and I can connect to my wireless but I get no internet. It works fine on my windows box or when I plug the cable in. I've looked around and been fiddling with it for hours and no joy, it all seems to be installed correctly its just not working!
