Ubuntu Networking :: Disable Bcm43xx Wifi Driver?

Jan 23, 2011

I'm running Maverick Meerkat Ubuntu and I'm trying to figure out how to disable this bcm43xx wifi driver, or something like that. Personally, I have no clue what this is, but someone said that after you install NDISwrapper and its components, you have to disable bcm43xx driver, otherwise the two will conflict.

Jan 21, 2010

I installed Redhat nash version 5.1.19.6 with kernel 2.6.18-128.el5-xen-i686 on a Dell Inspiron 1300 with Broadcom BCM4401 (eth0/LAN) and BCM4318 (eth1/WLAN). eth0 is working fine, but eth1 was causing trouble. After some difficulties with missing packages I managed to install ndiswrapper, blacklisted module bcm43xx in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and removed it, loaded module ndiswrapper and had connection. But after reboot module bcm43xx was again loaded. So blacklisting does not seem to work. And additionally strange to me, I cannot unload module bcm43xx anymore. And if I load ndiswrapper driver bcm43xx is still used as the terminal command 'dmesg' is showing me in the system log, while ndiswrapper was used when the connection was once and only once established

I have provided some output I got from initial exploration.

I upgraded to a recent version of the 2.6 kernel.

uname -a: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.6.28.7 #1 SMP Sat Mar 14 19:04:11 PDT 2009 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

I have installed the correct firmware hopefully.

cd /lib/firmware ls

Output is:

I do have the bcm* files for firmware.

output of lspci is:

Last two lines show the that Wireless card BCM4312 is visible.

Fedora Networking :: Change WiFi Driver In 15?

The driver that is installed is a RaLInk RT 2800pci but the one it needs is a RaLink RT2860. This is the driver that I used with the same WiFi card in Fedora 14 using Ndiswrapper. Do I need ndiswrapper this time too?

Ubuntu Networking :: EeePC 901 Dropping WiFi Connection - Need New Driver?

Jan 5, 2010

Here's the situation: I've got an eee pc 901 running Ubuntu 9.10 netbook remix. I'm using it to connect to a WPA-encrypted wireless network on a WRT54GL running dd-wrt. It mostly connects and works ok, but sometimes it just stops working for no apparent reason (the netbook still shows itself as connected), but you can't get anywhere until you manually disconnect and reconnect. Other times, it will drop the connection, and then quickly reconnect (or sometimes not). Obviously, this behavior is pretty irritating. At first I thought the problem was with the router, but I checked the logs there and they all seem fine, and other computers on the same router don't have this problem. Looking at "dmesg | tail" on my netbook, I see a lot of instances of the following error, which I'm thinking is probably the problem:

Code:
[11137.762233] ERROR!!! RTMPCancelTimer failed, Timer hasn't been initialize!
[11142.872797] ===>rt_ioctl_giwscan. 4(4) BSS returned, data->length = 440

[11163.952056] ERROR!!! RTMPCancelTimer failed, Timer hasn't been initialize!

I searched for that error message and I found this Ubuntu bug report: [URL] that describes symptoms that match mine. In that report, a poster mentions that he compiled and installed a new version of the wireless driver from the Ralink website, and it fixed his problem. Do you think installing a new driver would be good? Or has that updated driver already been added to the kernel since that bug report was filed? I've never compiled a kernel module before.

One other thing, I also see repeated instances of these lines (or similar ones) in dmesg, which look like they could be related.
Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Connect Via Wifi Or Ethernet For Wireless Driver Activation?

Feb 13, 2011

When I select the wifi icon on the panel, it just shows "No network devices available". I know my network can be found when I search with my iPhone, so I know there are networks to connect to. So, I checked the drivers, and it informs me that the B43 and STA drivers are not activated. So thats not a big deal, I guess, but when I use my ethernet cord, my laptop doesn't recognize/acknowledge (I'm not sure what the right term would be)it. I'm fairly sure I can't activate these drivers without an internet connection because when I do try, a message pops up saying "failed to fetch" with some long link.

My only guess is that it could be a hardware problem, but I really have no idea. I guess the ethernet problem is my only real problem. Because after I establish and internet connection the the rest is easy to fix.I'm sure its obvious, but I'll go ahead say that I'm a novice ubuntu user. I've only been working with it for about a week, but I'm learning alot.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel Broadcom - Bcmwl6 - Wifi Driver Unfunctional

Mar 3, 2011

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-2155dx Entertainment Notebook with Broadcom Wireless Lan Driver.

I didn't want to bother anyone with this, but I just could't find a solution. I was happy using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop Edition, because the wifi was working fine, but I messed everything up dealing with networking in terminal.

So formated and now I have Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition, but that didn't solved my problem at all, because my wifi driver still unfunctional.

Before anything, I tried commands like "dbus restart" and "network restart".

So after reading that I can install by getting ndisgtk and the .inf file, I downloaded the right driver from HP Support's page of my notebook. Extracted the package with Wine (got some error because I wasn't running Win7, of course, but that doesn't matter.).

I did this: [url]

And this is my final result:[url]

Ubuntu Networking :: Replace Current Ubuntu WiFi Driver With New One?

Dec 1, 2010

I have been trying to get my WiFi(AR9285) card to work properly for quite some time now. I need to know how I can completely remove the wireless driver that comes pre-installed with ubuntu.I have done the following:- Installed the "compat-wireless-2.6.33.tar.bz2" drivers, which have ath9k.(This had no effect. I rebooted and it still gives me the exact same problem)-Reinstalling ubuntu -Disabling IPV6-Ensured that I am close enough to the wireless router. It's not an out-of-range/low-signal problem. What I need to know:-How do I completely remove the current driver that comes pre-installed, in order to make sure it is replaced by the new one?

-I have read about "Backports" many times, but I am not sure what I should do. It would be great to get any instructions or links about this.-As a last resort, I think I'm going to have to use ndiswrapper. Again, before I do this, I need to know how to completely remove the current ubuntu driver, to make sure it doesn't fight with the one I will install. I'm going to find the needed .sys and .inf files now, as I have completely ran out of ideas

Ubuntu :: Patch Failure On Bcm43xx Drivers?

Jul 8, 2011

I just can't seem to overcome this issue. I downloaded the LatinSud patch from
[URL]... I set up a repository to download bcm43xx-fwcutte I downloaded wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o

I couldn't find for the life of me find linux-source-2.6.20 but I did have the repository for 2.6.38 so I did this. #sudo apt-get install linux-source-2.6.38 build-essential gawk

I then did the following
#cd /usr/src/
#tar jxvf linux-source-2.6.38.tar.bz2

At this point I got a whole ton of response that said "Cannot open: No such file or directory" "Cannot mkdir: Permission denied" Pretty much got spammed with that for like a couple hundred files/folders. I knew something was wrong but I kept going(lol).

#cd linux-source-2.6.38
#sudo cp ~/bcm43xx-injection-linux-2.6.22.patch bcm43xx-injection-linux-2.6.22.patch
#sudo cp ../linux-headers-2.6.38-8-generic/.config .config
#sudo patch -p1 -i bcm43xx-injection-linux-2.6.22.patch

This is where the fail happened

Hunk#1 FAILED at 104.
Hunk#1 FAILED at 3365.
Hunk#1 FAILED at 3636.
Hunk#1 FAILED at 3645.

[Code]...

Maybe I should try the Broadcom b34 drivers instead with b34 fwcutter? I'm not quite sure how to clean up all the folders now where I spammed all this patch stuff incase I wanted to try it again?

OpenSUSE Network :: Disable A WiFi Internface Selectively?

Jun 22, 2010

I have a Sony Vaio with built-in WiFi. I deemed the built-in WiFi to be flaky, so I installed a WiFi PC Card.bOpenSUSE 11.2 stock GNOME install out of the box, is there a way to disable just the flaky WiFi interface with Network Manager? It seems I can disable all WiFi or enable all WiFi but not individual interfaces selectively. If I connect to my router, the flaky interface wants to act as the dominant interface and makes my connection slow and unreliable.

I hate to make comparisons with Windows, but it's very obvious how to do it there. Is this something I can do with Network Manager or in GNOME? Or is this something deeper, changing configuration files with a text editor or recompiling kernel?
