I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server x86 64-bit and installed likewise-open, which I think is version 5.4. I can authenticate with Active Directory credentials, but it seems to hang when I log in. I can press Ctrl-C and break out of the hang, but was interested to see what was causing the behavior. I noticed lsassd was taking up about 99% of CPU while in this hung state. I then did a
Code: tail -f /var/log/syslog and discovered lsassd was doing some type of query for what appeared to by every user in our Active Directory as I saw hundreds of entries like this being added to the syslog:
Code: May 25 14:21:27 coe-web lsassd: 0x7f5bc72c1710:The user attributes in the cache data for 'domainjohndoe' are invalid. The cache database or user data in Active Directory could be corrupt. Is there some setting I can change so it doesn't do this?
I'm having a bit of a struggle here. I recently installed likewise-open 6 to logon to my company domain. All is working fine but one thing, the gnome-terminal autocomplete function.
All that the terminal shows is a "$" sign and nothing else. When I type in a part of a word and press "TAB" it registers as a tab and does not show the autocomplete options that I normally have. it's very annoying to type a long sentence every time.
I have installed likewise-open to authenticate on Active Directory and pam_mount for mounting folders. Now when I logon to local user

I'm having trouble installing likewise open through preseed.I'v used the example from https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/instal...le-preseed.txt as the source of my preseed file.It works just fine installing openssh, smbfs and libpam-mount. Se the code below. But if I try adding likewise to the code below installation stops when the likewise package is starting to install.Quote:
# Individual additional packages to install d-i pkgsel/include string openssh-server build-essential smbfs libpam-mount # Whether to upgrade packages after debootstrap.
Tinking around and found "likewise-open-server" as an installable package. I installed it, but cannot find it anywhere in gnome. Anybody know what this package does? How to use it? I googled it but can't find much.
Just completed the upgrade to 10.04 from 8.04, and ironing out the wrinkles. Since the upgrade, I'm not able to establish a VPN connection to my institute (a problem since outgoing mail REQUIRES a VPN connection) The pull down menu shows the connection as an option, but clicking on it brings up a separate window that simply says "The VPN connection CfA failed because the VPN Service failed to start." Never had this issue under Hardy, so not sure what's going on. Under "Configure VPN" the settings look the same as they always did.
I've been using Kubuntu Lucid on a Compaq tc4200 for nearly a month now. Suddenly today I logged into my machine and found that I couldn't connect to anything, Internet, LAN, router, nothing!Upon further investigation, I found that networking services weren't turned on at all!I tried manually starting the network service using
Code: sudo service networking start sudo /etc/init.d/networking start
I install openswan on rhel6 and when i execute the command "service ipsec start "
it say: /usr/libexec/ipsec/addconn Non-fips mode set in /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled /usr/libexec/ipsec/addconn Non-fips mode set in /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled ipsec_setup: Openswan IPsec apparently already active, start aborted

I have recently installed CentOS onto an old machine to get it up and running as a basic web/mail server. Originally the Network Interface worked ok, however I have been editing /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to try and set the IP address to be static.Now when I run the 'service network restart' command it won't bring the eth0 interface up and comes up with the following errors;
ifcfg-eth0 Line 3 DEVICE: command not found missing config file ifcfg-ifcfg-eth0
It doesn't seem to like any of the command words, even though most of these were in the original file that worked and the ones I added to do static I have commented out.
I have a problem here for which I am unable to find any relevant info on google. I have an openfiler server and another server which is running OEL(redhat5). When i give the following command iscsiadm -m discovery -t sendtargets -p 192.168.2.13it only gives me one line output which is:192.168.2.13:3260,1 iqn.2006-01.com.openfiler:tsn.03821172572cNone of the mapped LUNS gets identified neither it shows me any message that it is connecting. I have setup CHAP in openfiler to accept an incoming user plus gave access to my OEL server.Any feedback is helpful. If you need the contents of /etc/iscsi/iscsid.conf file let me know
I have CentOS 5.2 just installed and massively updated with yum -update command. Than I tried to configure firewall. After changes via system_config_securitylevel_tui (open ssh, http, ftp, and 3306:TCP ports) iptables service can't start with message
> /sbin/service iptables start Flushing firewall rules: [OK] Setting chains to policy ACCEPT: mangle filter nat [OK] Unloading iptables modules: [OK] Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore v1.3.5: Couldn't load match `TCP':/lib64/iptables/libipt_TCP.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Error occurred at line: 18 Try `iptables-restore -h' or 'iptables-restore --help' for more information. I erased the iptables service and installed it again with yum. How can I make this service work?
5. go to your nsswitch.conf file located in /etc/ and set the hosts to only files and dns
6. now you should stop your networking and start it again so that the dns changes take effect.
7. you are now ready to try and join your domain. "domainjoin-cli join fqdn.of.yourdomain administrator" you can substitute administrator with any admin account
you should now be joined to your domain for adding sudo rights to the "administrator" membership
1. open your sudoers file located in /etc/ 2. the following line to the bottom of the file "%DOMAIN\administrators ALL=(ALL) ALL" replace DOMAIN with your domain name. do not use your fqdn. all set. hope you enjoy
I'm having a problem getting likewise to connect to a Windows 2008 R2 server on our network.
Error: Lsass Error [code 0x00080047] 9502 (0x251E) DNS_ERROR_BAD_PACKET - A bad packet was received from a DNS server. Potentially the requested address does not exist. I have already read up on this a little bit. Both servers are within a minute of each other, so I am not concerned about server timing. I am not sure where to go from this point. Everything I have read seems to indicate that this should "just work".
I'm using RHEL 5 with the Enhanced Security. Using the suggest NISPOM Red Hat documented settings (located on the system; copy - paste) I have managed to audit failed file open accesses however, this setting only retained if I enter it at the command line (/sbin/auditctl -a ). If I reboot the system or restart the service all my -a (not -w) located in the /etc/audit/audit.rules are not retained.
I got this error for two days.back then I googled this error and i got some information about log file in /var/log/syslog but i couldn't find it in google at all. this is all i got from syslog . look at the red paragraph
