Ubuntu Networking :: Constant Wireless Disconnecting With Intel Based Card

May 2, 2010

This is a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell XPS M1530. I'm getting very frequent disconnects to my wireless network, despite good signal. I have wicd and nm-applet running side by side, wicd doesn't work by itself and nm-applet won't get a new IP after reassociating with the AP.

Wireless connection is steady in Windows 7, so I'm guessing it's a problem with the driver.

Fedora Hardware :: Support For Intel Arrandale/Calpella (Core I3/i5) Laptops?

Jan 17, 2010

I was using Fedora 11 on my previous laptop, a Toshiba Centrino 2-powered model, and I was having issues with the CPU fan not starting up unless I put it to sleep and woke it up again. I no longer have it due to circumstances beyond my control (aka getting mugged), and I'm looking into getting one of Dell's Core i5-powered Inspiron laptops.

On the odd chance that some people here have gotten their hands on one, I was wondering if there's any support for Core i3/i5-powered laptops in Fedora 11, or should I wait for Fedora 12 before I get one? I almost burnt up the Centrino 2 one before I remembered about the fan problem, and I want to avoid that if possible.

Hardware :: Two Graphics Cards (Intel 965 / Cirrus 5440) Does Not Work

Jun 12, 2011

I want to add a second monitor to a computer with existing onboard Intel 965 graphics. The Intel graphics work great so i'd prefer adding something old for a second monitor (just to throw some toolbars on it) instead of installing ATI / nV card (which will disable the Intel graphics). I added an old PCI (not PCIe) Cirrus Logic GD 5440 Alpine for the second monitor (so that it won't disable the Intel). This card is capable of 640x480 w/ 256 colors (actually more, but I don't know how much more it will go. It has like 1MiB memory)

Now I set it up like this:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-cirrus.conf
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "CirrusCard"
Driver "cirrus"
BusID "PCI:4:0:0"
EndSection
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf .....

All the additions to the cirus (modeline etc) were added when experimenting, but did not change the errors. X fails to start in all configurations I tried here:

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel Pro / Wireless 4965 AG Frustrations

Jan 19, 2010

After wading through all of the bug reports filed regarding the Intel 4965 AG wireless adapter, trying various suggestions and not finding any solutions to my problem, I've finally decided to scrap the idea of actually being able to get my Toshiba laptop to connect reliably to my wireless network with Ubuntu 9.10. This wireless adapter worked absolutely flawlessly with 8.04 Hardy. I took the plunge once again this week and thought I'd try again to get 9.10 working on my laptop but it's a no go with the Intel wireless adapter (same problem with 9.04, it just doesn't work). You would think with newer versions of drivers and kernels that the same hardware that worked in a previous version, would continue working with newer versions.

Anyway, enough of my frustrated ranting... I need to find a replacement wireless adapter for my laptop that WORKS FLAWLESSLY with 9.10. When I say flawlessly, I mean you plug it in, boot up the laptop and it works all the time, every time. No fooling around with drivers etc... Either a PCMCIA or a USB wireless adapter that is currently available for purchase. I've waded through the sticky on the forum about which adapters are supposed to work, but I'm really hoping that someone here is using either a PCMCIA card or USB card and could please point me in the right direction. It's kind of funny, I purchase my Toshiba laptop because I read reviews here in the forum about how great it worked with Ubuntu 8.04. How all the hardware was recognized and worked out of the box. It did... with 8.04. Everything still works with 9.10 except the wireless.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel 3945ABG Wireless Will Not Connect To WEP?

May 21, 2010

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60, running Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) with a dual boot of Windows XP. I am having trouble getting it to connect to my home wireless network, which uses WEP. It connected fine at my university when I first installed Lucid, but has not connected at home. I can see the network in the panel applet, with a good signal strength, but when I try to connect it repeatedly asks me for my key and never actually connects. I had this problem shortly before I installed Lucid, though it was working for a long time previously. I'm not sure what update caused it to stop working because I was at my university at the time, and it works fine there even now, so I didn't realize it right away.

I doubt this is a hardware issue because I can connect to the same network when I boot into Windows. I have seen posts about similar problems on the forums, but couldn't find any solutions that helped me.

Below is the information the wireless help guide said to post. Machine Brand and Model: IBM Thinkpad T60

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Not Working

May 31, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Gateway M520 laptop, and after failing to get the Broadcom wireless chip that came with it working I swapped it out for an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG. I also am not sure if I have the proper drivers to get the chip working with Ubuntu, and I'm not sure how to figure that out.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel 4965agn 10.10 Wireless - Can't Connect

Apr 14, 2011

I'm trying to set up ubuntu on my netbook, the brand and make is obscure, essentially, this is a no-name brandless build from china, but a pretty decent lappy. Atom N270 Intel 945GSE based. initially it was equipped with a 3DSP wifi/bluetooth mPCIe combo card, which is proprietary and didn't work on ubuntu (didn't even show up as a device), so I got an intel 4965agn based on compatibility list somewhere in the wiki.

The problem I have is that I see networks, but can't connect at home or at work or anywhere, it just hangs in the connecting status and then throws the authentication popup at me again (pw is all correct). I tried looking around at similar problems, some have wpa_supplicant related issues, but doesn't seem to be the same as mine.

I tried creating an unsecured network using my macbook's airport, and same thing happened with ubuntu... hangs in connecting status then drops, so it doesn't seem to be WPA. I don't have the device on me to do all the iflist iwlist checks for you, but if you could give me some clues, I'll post back when I get home.

Ubuntu Networking :: Lenovo T61, 9.10 And Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 4965 AG Or AGN?

what is really a rant disguised as a question, but does anyone have this combination working? My NetGear router shows the connection as allowed from the MAC address in the router logs, And I can see the network I want to join in the list of visible networks from the laptop, but dmesg shows Ubuntu disconnecting with

WPA-PSK [TKIP] only:
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=15)
WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3)

I'm sure there is a simple explantion that has been sufficiently buried somewhere but after several hours of googling and searching the forums here I can't find it. Anyone want to help out an old man RTFM?

I'm getting really disappointed here lately - things are getting worse, not better. In my case in particular I have this laptop with supposedly open and supported drivers and they don't work, however, the exact same distributuon on a Dell D830 with a broadcom NIC does. under 8.10 and 9.04 this worked out the box - just logged in, gave the PSK and away we went. I can't see the attachment I just uploaded so to include the information requested in the "how to get help" post, I'll put it all here inline...

Ubuntu Networking :: System Hang When Using Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG On 10.10

Dec 16, 2010

My system hangs within a few minutes after I turn on the Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG interface built into my motherboard or if I boot with the interface turned on. I have been having this problem for a couple of years and tried to fix it myself from time to time. (I think that I even asked for help in the Forum once.) The wireless interface used to work fine with Ubuntu and I kept hoping that the problem would "magically" disappear with each upgrade. I also read about the recent problems with ndiswrapper and similar interfaces. But this doesn't seem to be my problem. The entries in /var/log/messages just prior to the last hang were

Dec 15 09:09:47 periwinkle rsyslogd: [origin software="rsyslogd" swVersion="4.2.0" x-pid="824" x-info="http://www.rsyslog.com"] rsyslogd was HUPed, type 'lightweight'.

I don't know what process gdb was trying to trace. Since I was testing the system, I was only running Firefox, which has always triggered the problem. The output from "dmesg | grep -e ndis -e ipw" was

[ 19.121563] libipw: 802.11 data/management/control stack, git-1.1.13

[ 19.161180] ipw2200: Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, 1.2.2kmprq

[code]....

In previous version of Ubuntu, the messages just before the hang used to complain about the firmware in the interface being buggy. I intended to send the output from iwconfig and "sudo iwlist eth1 scan" as well. But I can't turn on the interface without hanging the system and thereby destroying this post.

I just upgraded from the 64-bit version of Ubuntu 10.4 to 10.10 over the network using the Update Manager. But when I chose the "About Ubuntu" option from the System menu, I was surprised to see it say that I am running Natty Narwhal 11.4. My system is a Linux Certified LC2464T [URL]

how to set up wireless networks. The technical language is foreign to me. My notebook maybe described as follows:

Make and Model: SONY VAIO FW490
Processor: Intel Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8700 (2.53GHz)
RAM: 4GB DDR2-SDRAM
Graphics card: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD4650 graphics card with 512MB vRAM.

It came pre-installed with Windows Vista Home Premium but now I have Fedora 11 (w/ Gnome) as the only OS. The router that I am using with an Ethernet cable connected to my laptop is a Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router WGR614 v7 connected to a Motorola Surfboard Cable Modem. Both worked right out of the box and now I have wired Internet access. RCN is my ISP. I would like to avoid using the Ethernet cable connecting my laptop to the router.

This is what I have done so far:

1. Gone to System>Administration>Network

2. Clicked "New" then chose "Wireless connection" from the list

3. Chose Intel Corp. Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (wlan0) from list. The other option was "Other Wireless Card".

I don't know what to do after this. What should I choose in the windows entitled "Configure Wireless Connection" and "Configure Network Settings" ? I chose Ad-Hoc for mode and entered an SSID name even though I have no explanation for taking these actions. As for the other settings, I simply went with whatever was already selected. At the moment, I lose Internet access when I disconnect the Ethernet cable. I see other wireless networks when I click the network icon on the top right corner of the screen. I don't know how to make my router appear on that list if that's necessary.
