Ubuntu Networking :: Doesn't Recognize Wireless Network?

Feb 14, 2010

I am exploring Ubuntu 8.10 on my Asus netbook without yet installing it. While using Ubuntu I cannot get it to recognize any wireless networks. Is this because I am only exploring Ubuntu and it has not yet been installed? The networks are recognized when using the XP operating system. Will Ubuntu recognize the wireless networks once it is installed as the operating system?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Doesn't Recognize Password 10.04

May 8, 2010

I had the same problem with normal ubuntu, wubi or even after instaling it in a virtual pc

I've got a wireless router with a WEP security, when I choose my connection and put in the key it just tries for some time and then ask me again for the WEP key. And it goes like this on and on and on, I've tried to connect at some firends gome with the same kind of connection and it doesn't work either.

I think that in an older version I did connect to an unprotected connection but I cannot take out the protection because it is my roomsmate wifi.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Recognize The Wireless Network

I installed Kubuntu 9.10 using wubi (dualboot with Windows 7). There were no network connections available, even though I have two that can be used when I switch to Windows. After two hours I got tired of trying to fix the problem and rebooting to no avail, so i uninstalled and installed Ubuntu instead. I've still got the same problem, and after hitting a hole in my wall and shaving my head, I have no idea how to fix the problem. How do i get Ubuntu to recognize my wireless network?

Perhaps this is sheer ignorance, but i just cant figure out which wireless chipset i´ve got. Its irrelevant to say that my wireless conection doesn´t authenticate (repeating the process without end). So this is the output of lspci:

this error is returned:

Ubuntu Networking :: Booting Up The Server Doesn't Connect To The Wireless Network?

Oct 5, 2010

i'm experiencing some weird behaviour: I have a server running ubuntu 10.04 and two Apple laptops in my home network. Sometimes after booting up the server doesn't connect to the wireless network, but instead "kills" the connection of the laptops. (The network then isn't available for about two minutes - it's showing but it can't connect) On the server the network interface is up, but not associated.

Sometimes the interface isn't configured properly (iwconfig isn't showing an entry) - but in this case the behaviour obviously isn't showing. some information about my system:

Ubuntu Version: Server 10.04x64

OpenSUSE Network :: System Doesn't Recognize Video Card

Mar 26, 2010

So the only experience I have with Linux is all from Ubuntu, and I just spontaneously decided that I needed a change...two days later my triple boot Macbook Pro got slimmed down to a dual boot OSX/OpenSUSE 11.2 machine. But there are some general problems, and I have absolutely no idea how to solve them. First, wireless isn't recognized at all...there isn't even a space for wireless connections. Second, I haven't been able to get compiz to work yet, and I can only suspect that the system doesn't recognize my video card, or the driver isn't installed. Yet again, no idea how to fix this.

Ubuntu Networking :: Aspire Wireless Inop - Unsecured Guest Network Doesn't Work Either

Mar 9, 2011

I have an Aspire 7741z running Ubuntu 10.04 I just loaded the 32 bit version today, then did the Update manager (398 updates) Before the update everything worked fine. After the update, no wireless. Password & security is correct, all wireless setup is correct. Aside from my network, I do have access to a local hotel (next door) and I can always get into their unsecured guest network, that doesn't work either.

I believe it is the driver since I have loaded Ubintu 10.10 32 bit with the same reaction. It will connect when I put in the live disk, but not from the hard install. output from lspci

My problem is the computer does recognize the wireless connections but when I put the wep key It just start trying to connect and then asks for it again, and this goes on and on and on. Ubuntu Networking :: Getting To Recognize Wireless Card?

Jan 7, 2010

Moving this to new topic, since it's no longer under wireless connectivity issues. [Noob Warning] I was having trouble getting Ubuntu to recognize my wireless card, as I have changed from the 3965 that came in my computer to the 4965, which added increased range and G band. Anyway, I read one of the threads on here, and this was the advice given:

Ubuntu Networking :: Get Kismet To Recognize Wireless?

I'm trying to get Kismet up and running with Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm using an Atheros AR928X, but I don't know what to put in the etc/kismet/kismet.conf file under the line source=

Do I need to install madwifi drivers, or are the drivers that come with Ubuntu sufficient enough? I've been reading other forums and on Google that I should put source=madwifi_g,ath0,madwifi but my device is not ath0, it's wlan0 as shown with the lspci command.

Launching kismet_server: //usr/bin/kismet_server
Suid priv-dropping disabled. This may not be secure.
No specific sources given to be enabled, all will be enabled.
Non-RFMon VAPs will be destroyed on multi-vap interfaces (ie, madwifi-ng)
Enabling channel hopping.

Ubuntu Networking :: KUbuntu 10.10 Does Not Recognize Wireless

Feb 8, 2011

I have recently bought a Toshiba Portege R700-15Q and installed kubuntu 10.04. A similar problem happens with kubuntu 10.10 booted from USB stick. I am a long-time linux user but not experienced with fixing problems. The wireless network is not enabled and it appears that linux does not know that there is a wireless capibility. This is both with and without an ethernet connection at boot. The wireless light on the computer is lit up, but when I go to Manage Connections the wireless and mobile broadband tabs are greyed out so can't be accessed.

iwconfig gives "no wireless extensions" for lo, eth0 and pan0.
lspci returns "Network controller: Broadcom Cooperation BCM4313 802.11b/g LP-PHY (rev 01)"
lshw -C network returns "*-network UNCLAIMED", along with a block of other information which does not indicate a problem to me.
