View 3 Replies View RelatedCan you "split" a network interface in Ubuntu, similar to how airmon-ng lets you use your wireless card in managed and monitor mode, by making another interface out of the same hardware? I know it'd be slower, but I'd still like to do it.

But when I started using battery I noticed that internet connection is very slow(around 1-4 KB/s, normally ~128KB/s).I used Code:iwpriv eth1 set_pm 0(pm = power mode? And what means this parameter 0, 1 and 2?)and everything seems to be ok now.And my question is - where can I edit which power mode settings for wifi are used on battery?

View 9 Replies View Relatedmy wireless home network is not recognized by my network card (RealTek RTL8190 mini PCI). The post was as follows: "I am using a new computer with Windows 7 , Athlon quad core 2.60 64 bit, 8GB RAM. Internet conection works fine with ethernet but ubuntu does not see my wireless network. card (RealTek RTL 8190 ID: 10ec:8190). Have searched this forum but unable to come up with a fix. I was looking for windows XP drivers to use Ndiswrapper but could not find a list of .inf files. My network is OK and works perfectly in windows and with my 2 laptops. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Additional info: install was done within Windows using WUBI to a separate partition on my HDD. I am new to this and thouroughly confused as to the procedure for installing the drivers if they are in fact available."
I am very frustrated in that I would like to use Ubuntu 10.04 but it is useless without internet connectability. I am new to linux and do not understand where to get the appropriate drivers or how to install them. I wish someone would answer this post and either give me a clue what to do or just say "give up" and uninstall ubunutu.
I run an Ubuntu Server in a Virtualbox environment. Setup works fine. In virtualbox, I accidentally hit a button that generates and assigns a new mac address for the network adapter. Since then the machine does not bring eth0 up. I tried the following ifconfig eth0 down; ifconfig eth0 hw ether macaddress; ifconfig eth0 up. Then restarted networking.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a second network card in my ubuntu desktop that I have sharing my internet connection with a wireless router. I have set the router to a static ip address within the network cards range. But, every time I restart the computer, the network card uses a different ip address. One time it will be 10.42.43.1, the next time it will be 10.42.46.1, ect. This makes me have to hard reset my router every time it does this. How can I set the network card to use the same ip address all the time?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've got two network card interfaces on my computer, one wireless and one wired. The wireless card is connected to the Internet and the wired is connected to the LAN. When only the wireless card is active, Internet works. As soon as i enable the second wired card, Internet stops working. And it seems like Ubuntu chooses the wired card for Internet as soon as it's enabled.
Are there any ways to solve this? So my Ubuntu box always chooses the wireless card for Internet traffic and let me use the wired device for LAN only?
I am running ubuntu server x64 as a router. I currently have 2 LAN cards, eth0 and eth1. and I want to add wireless capabilites to the machine.I was wondering if any of you know which card I could use?I want it to be supported in ubuntu server and it must be n-draft, as it is to replace a Edimax n-draft router.

I use a apple time capsule router, I want my desktop to run a apache server thats why I need the static ip. I also want the static ip to be set on the wireless network interface. I have an old laptop with an internal Intel pro 2200 card so there should not be a driver problem.
This i my interfaces config code...
To be on the sure side to get this to work I have configured my router(DHCP) to give my wireless-HWaddress the ip of 10.0.1.15, STILL the ubuntu desktop starts with the false address above.
So I want to run a Minecraft Server on my computer running Ubuntu 11.04. My goal is to have the server running over my network through one of the virtual terminals without any type of GUI running (to conserve resources). I'm shutting down the ubuntu GUI using the command:
Code: sudo service gdm stop which does a great job, but it also kills my wireless connection.I've tried editing my /etc/network/interfaces, and even uninstalling the gnome network mananger, but nothing seems to work. Can anybody help?
Wireless network card is showing as "disabled"...How can I enable it through Ubuntu?

I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Laptop. It has a Netgear WG511 (made in China) PCI wireless card but I cannot see any connections other than the wired one. Entering in lspci in the terminal mode and removing/replacing the WG511 shows (I think) that something is being detected in the PCI slot "Network Controller: Intersil Corporation ISL 3890 [Prism GT/Prism Duette]/ISL3886 [Prism Javelin/Prism Xbow] rev 01". Is this the WG511 and, if so, how do I get it to be detected as a network device?

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe card is recognized by Ubuntu 9.10 and I have it in the network manager. I followed one tutorial about creating an ad-hoc network and all looked good, until I actually wanted to connect (or to be more precise, my machine is a host for other computers). The wireless icon just loops endlessly, without connecting and eventually I get "Wireless network - disconnected" message.
So, the main issue here is - connecting! I just can't. Also if you know/have some good tutorial for ad-hoc,

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to activate a wireless network on an ubuntu server 10.04. The machine has a TPLink PCI wireless card. Card is well recognized, and scanning for wireless connection it finds correctly the essid of the access point in the room. But when I try:
Code:
$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid "apoint" key s:my_key_8
this error is returned:
Code:
Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.I looked for similar situations over many forums, and I found that it could be the card doesn't support the encryption type (My AP uses WPA with TKIP). However if I use an ubuntu desktop live CD on the same machine, I can connect witouth any problem with NetworkManager 0.8.
I am facing a problem with the management of my network card after installing Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit Desktop edition.
There are two Network Cards and one USB adapter which I'd like to drive:
- Ethernet controller Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
- Ethernet controller Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter
Actually I need the wireless adapter to connect to the AP, so both of the ethernet card should be disabled. Infact, when I try to access to the AP I must disable the eth0 card by using (sudo ifconfig eth0 down), otherwise the route assigns the default gw (192.168.1.1) to the eth0 device and the network is useless.
I have a Netgear WG511GE PCMCIA card, and a driver from the original installation disk. I used an ndiswrapper-utils gui called ndisgtk to install the driver. I then do the following to verify an installation:
[Code]....
Unfortunately, when I put the PCMCIA card in, nothing happens. On Windows, a green light flashes even if the card is not connected to any network. At first I thought this might be a hardware issue, so I did #lspci and got:
[Code]....
Lo and behold, when I put a different unbranded Wireless PC Card in it works. I'm no expert in Networks, but to me this suggests a driver problem (i.e. the card is physically detected it just won't work). However, the correct driver was installed with ndisgtk and this was verified with #ndiswrapper -l, hence the confusion.
I'd be grateful if anyone else has had this problem/knows of this problem and is willing to share the solution with me/point me in the right direction. So far, Google has returned a few posts from a few years ago talking about patching kernels and manually building files etc (just before Prism54 became integrated into the Linux kernel).
I have downloaded and installed Fedora 10.Now I am setting up the network and in the 'network configuration' it finds the wireless device (ralink) in the 'hardware' section of the configuration - I set this to eth0 (it originally set itself to wan0 and I still had the same problems, now it doesn't give me the option to put it back to wan0).Now I goto the devices tab and try to set up the device with eth0 - which it seems to find. But when I goto activate the device it tells me that eth0 cannot be found
