Ubuntu Networking :: BCM4306 (Rev. 2) (14e4:4320) - Wireless Not Functioning

May 8, 2011

I tried using b43-fwcutter in accordance with the Ubuntu Forums and nothing happened, and then I decided to look a little further. According to LinuxWireless.org, the BCM4306/2 actually uses the b43legacy drivers, so I purged all of b43-fwcutter along with firmware-b43-installer and downloaded firmware-b43legacy-installer.

$ sudo apt-get install b43-fwcutter firmware-b43legacy-installer

Nothing happened, so I downloaded b43legacy manually per the instructions listed at LinuxWireless.com, and manually extracted from wl_apsta- to my /lib/firmware folder. Nothing happened again. I made sure to check additional drivers and nothing shows up.

As per the ticket posting instructions, I've included all the info you guys could need. from what I can conclude, the wireless isn't even ON, but it's integrated and I have NO IDEA what I have to do to get it up and running.

At least in OpenSuSE 11.3 LXDE I was able to get the wireless on, although I had some major connection issues, I guess it couldn't resolve the handshake completely, or take my SSID/PSK properly.

Here goes! (God bless 2>&1 | tee -a)

General :: Broadcom Pci Id 14e4:4320 No Connection

Feb 28, 2010

even on networks that have no encryption & are non mac filtering i cant connect to. i cant use dhcpcd cause its not installed. my card once again is a broadcom 14e4:4320 BCM4306/3 with b43legacy driver installed. ive been looking into modprobe but i think the modules are loaded proper. could be wrong though thats new to me. i think the ndiswrapper isnt really necessary, but if you say otherwise, i'll give it a try. im using backtrack 4 beta. I know this isnt the best way to go since all my configurations are constantly wiped out. I know this much, i can put the card into monitor mode, and scan for networks on both mon0 and wlan0 and see them..

Ubuntu Networking :: Monitor Mode On Broadcom 14e4:4315 And 14e4:432* Wireless Cards?

Apr 3, 2010

First of all, this tutorial will use NDISWRAPPER, not b43, not wl (Broadcom STA). So, hooray for new method (actually, the only method ). Now, I don't want anyone to get scared because of bad experiences with Ndiswrapper or whatever, it's actually quite easy. I did not come up with any of this info. I'm just putting this guide together from Kacper Szczesniak's info (who came up with this method), WifiDocsDriverbcm43xxFeisty_No-Fluff from the Ubuntu Wiki, and my experience. The Broadcom STA (wl) driver has references to monitor mode in it's code, but does not have that functionality in reality. The Broadcom Windows driver on the other hand does have this capability. So, for monitor mode to work, you will need a patched version of ndiswrapper.

1) Install the Linux kernel headers:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

2) Install the tools required to compile Ndiswrapper:

sudo apt-get install checkinstall dh-make fakeroot gcc build-essential

3) Unload current Ndiswrapper module, if running:

sudo rmmod ndiswrapper

Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom BCM4306 Can't Find Wireless?

May 23, 2010

I am new to Ubuntu and have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a Dell D600. My wired network is working perfectly however, my wireless card is unable to detect wireless networks. I am using a Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 wireless card. I have updated the drivers and it is installed correctly as far as I can tell. My card seems to be working, but it doesn't detect any wireless networks. I know that my wireless is functioning, because I can log on successfully with a windows laptop. In addition there are 5 or 6 other networks available, so it should be able to detect something. I am new, so please let me know what information you need and, if possible, how to find it.

Here is the results of "lshw -C network" from the terminal below:

mikee@mikee-laptop:~$ lshw -C network

Ubuntu Networking :: BCM4306 Wireless Adapter Does Not Work

Jan 4, 2011

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 (and eventually upgraded to 10.10) on a 6+ year old Gateway Laptop. When I booted Ubuntu up after installing it, I was rather surprised to discover that the wireless card didn't work. I am almost certain that the wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4306, but I am unable to determine what revision it is, if at all. When I look at the network connections widget, it says that the wireless card is not ready, and iwconfig (I think) says that it's disabled.

It's not a problem with the laptop itself, because I was able to get a Linksys usb wireless adapter to work just fine on it, although it was SLOW (about 90 kbs). I am trying to fix this on a FRESH installation of Xubuntu 10.04 with the default packages on it, nothing more. Now, I was able to get the wireless working ONCE on ubuntu, using fwcutter I think, but it went away upon reboot. One last thing, I am running the 32 bit Xubuntu 10.04 on what I think is a 64 bit machine (I think it ran x64 Ubuntu 10.04 before I ditched it), so how to figure out if it is 64 bit.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Connecting (Broadcom BCM4306) / Get That?

Apr 25, 2011

I've been trying to troubleshoot this myself for the past couple of days, but to no avail so I have come in search of help.

I have a PCI wireless card, it's a Broadcom device using the BCM4306 chipset. I'm running the b43 drivers which were installed using fwcutter.

At my last place the card worked perfectly. There it was connected to an unencrypted network. I've recently moved places and it just refuses to connect to the new network here. The router is set up with a 64-bit WEP key. In Ubuntu, network manager sees the access point and prompts my to enter the password but will not connect, instead continually asking for the login. I have tried using wicd instead of network manager, and that just throws up a "bad password" error.

Signal strength to the access point isn't great, around 50% usually, however the same card connects and works perfectly when I'm booted into Windows Vista. Unfortunately I can't do anything to change the router's configuration and using a cable is not possible.

Ubuntu Networking :: Brodacomm Bcm4306 Wireless Adapter In Other Distros?

Jan 5, 2011

I was wondering if any of you knew of any linux distro that supported the bcm4306 wireless adapter, or one you could get it working on easily. I have tried Ubuntu, on a 6+year old laptop, which had the afore mentioned wireless adapter, and Ubuntu wouldn't get that miserable piece of hardware to work . I don't really care which distro of linux I put on there, as long as I can get the wireless adapter to work, and it isn't a pain to set up and use. I do hope someone knows of a distro that supports it. If you do know a fix for the wireless card in Ubuntu/Xubuntu, please post it on my other thread, which you should find easily in the wireless and networking section.

(hoping my broadcomm woes are over)

P.S. I am so sorry about the poor spelling in the title of the thread, I didn't notice the typos until I hit "post"

Ubuntu Networking :: TI ACX111 Wireless Card Not Functioning In 10.04?

May 6, 2010

I installed 10.04 today, not having used this system for Ubuntu since 8.04. My wireless card (Texas Instruments ACX 111) worked perfectly in Windows XP and 7, and it worked on installation in 8.04.

I did a clean, full install of 10.04 (no dual boot or anything), but the wireless card is not working. The OS doesn't even seem to recognize that it is there because I can't even scan for networks, let alone connect.

The only reason I have a connection on this computer is because I am sharing the internet via ethernet from my Macbook.

Ubuntu Networking :: Dell N4010 Wireless Is Not Functioning?

Dell N4010 and other brands with UBUNTU 10.04

Wireless need propriety drivers and will not function with out them being installed

And LAN port (wired RJ45 port) is not working too.

So what is the easy way to update these drivers.

Borrow someone else USB wireless adapter, that will work instantly with Ubuntu version you just installed.

Then you can update on line via USB wireless adapters. I use WG111v2 to connect to dell 4010 to update other wireless drivers.

Ubuntu Networking :: No AP In NetworkManager With Broadcom BCM4306 (B43)?

I have problems with my Broadcom BCM4306 (rev 03) on my HP nx6110ng Karmic.NetworkManager does not list any AP, even if there should be some. It did work for some days without problems, but suddenly stopped working. I made a kernel update with the update manager, but I am not sure if this caused the probem (I also used the wired connection, so I don't exaclty know when wireless stopped working). Reinstalling fwcutter wasn't successful. So I tried as suggested in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...oadcom_BCM4306 and added the following lines to /etc/rc.local

Ubuntu Networking :: Eth0 On Mini 10 Not Functioning?

Apr 29, 2010

I installed the netbook remix of 9.10 on a Dell mini10. (Dual boot with XP) I knew that I would have to install the broadcom drivers to get the wireless up and running. What I didn't anticipate is that the eth0 interface would not work. ifconfig shows the device and lists the ip as a 192.xxx number. I am wired directly into our network, and expect an IP in the 10.10.etc range. Pings either return a host unreachable message or say network unreachable. This problem persists even if I set the card to a known good IP. ifdown eth0 returns a message that the interface is not configured. ifup returns a message that it is ignoring the interface. After fighting that problem for a while, I re-installed, thinking that perhaps something had gotten fouled up in the installation process. The problem persists. Nothing has changed.

Ubuntu :: Broken Internet 10.04 With Functioning Networking?

Apr 6, 2011

internet access is no longer working on my computer, ie wget, ping, apt-get update all return unkown host (url or whatever).

However the system monitor (Network History) shows that the system is sending and receiving packets. And what I think is network manager applet shows active network signals for both wireless and ethernet.

I know my laptop has not acquired hardware faults. Since I am posting this message and accessing the internet through the same computer with a Ubuntu live USB start up disk.

I searched through the forums for related posts and tried suggestions. Forinstance

the /etc/resolv.conf

file is the same for both live usb system and hard drive system, so it can not be that.

# Generated by NetworkManager
the /etc/network
interfaces file looks like:

I tried the system test (System->Administration->System Test), with only Network tests selected). The results of system test were so extensive I searched for the word internet and extracted lines for internet. Interestingly it says both the network_test and the internet_test are _passed_.

But the internet does not work in either in web browsers or with BASH commands.

And also:

python-twisted-bin Event-based framework for internet applications

Ubuntu Networking :: Realteck Drivers And 11.04 - WiFi Is Not Functioning?

May 15, 2011

I am having some issues and my fixes are not even close to functioning anymore.I originally downloaded this driver http:[url]... and, though I occasionally had to re- "make-install" it, it worked.Last night, I did the system updates Ubuntu suggested and this morning, my WiFi is not functioning .Here are the "common commands" and stuff I have used so far to try to debug the problem.

lspci: 1a/b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 20) 0c:03.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6306/7/8 [Fire II(M)] IEE iwconfig: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bg ESSID:"***** ******" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff Power Managementff

I am slightly confused as to why my Wireless LAN Controller doesn't come up as my Realtek 8185, but I think that may be issue number 1. The next bit of confusion comes from the fact that wlan0 is shown as connected to the correct SSID, even showing a frequency, but is not, infact, sending or receiving from that source. As I have said before, I just really nee WiFi to work.I was having issues with my sound and graphics cards,so I ran the update manager, but I wasn't expecting it to break my drivers! It is also worth noting that I have actually tried to recompile my drivers and re-install them, they don't seem to be working, for some reason.

Fedora Networking :: Unable To Get Static Network Functioning F14

Feb 18, 2011

I need static networking to be functional on F14 to try freeipa....the problem I have is I am unable to get eth0 to start. Knowing the software it has to be eth0 or it will likely not work... The guest is in a RHEV6svr environment... So I have disabled NetworkManager and enabled networ and set manula settings in ifcfg-eth0 incl the hware address but eth0 wont start on boot....

next I tried setting a e1000 network card after the hypervisor default didnt work, only to find that this doesnt work either. The MAC addresses are changing as I try and fault find a dead DNS client issue (yet another F14 issue but lets not go there yet, it could be RHEV's "funky" NATing setup)....so I suspect F14 has got its knickers in a twist over the MAC for ETH0....I keep changing it and I suspect it cant keep up.....so I need to disable the automatic function(s), if there is one....

So somewhere down in the code there is probably a line saying eth0= <mac address> but despite greping I cant find that.....or not something that I edit and it then works.... I have tried the gui tools and command line tools and I still have no network..... So what would be a totally CLI process to fix this automated crap? ie stop F14 pointing at the wrong MAC for eth0?

Ubuntu Networking :: "Create New Network" Not Functioning As Directed

Sep 20, 2010

I've gotten the Ubuntu Broadcom STA driver working on my AppleTV by (not blacklisting) adding the appropriate rmmod statements to my rc.local script. The system now recognizes the card; lswh -C network:

I can now successfully join wifi networks on the device. My ultimate goal is to create a wifi AP using the card via Ubuntu. The card is a bcm4328. I have attempted to create a wifi hotspot using the "Create new network" menu item from the network menu applet. When I try to join the network on my MacBook, it apparently can join successfully, but then gets a "Self Assigned IP" which is outside the LAN's subnet (which is 192.168.200.X, while the IP on the MBP is and the network control panel indicates that it is self-assigned).

It would appear that the AP on the AppleTV is not bridged with the wifi. I have attempted to follow the CLI-based tutorials but chickened out when I saw I had to set the card to master mode as I do not believe the bcm4328 is capable of this.

Ubuntu :: Made The Most Progress With Ubuntu Which Recognizes BCM4306 And Assings Wlan0 To It?

Sep 18, 2010

The wireless keyboard and mouse work under Ubuntu no problem. My frustration is the wlan card. I have 2 PCI wireless cards, both Dlink: one with a BCM4306 chip, the other with a Marvel W8300 chip and a USB WUA-2340 stick from Dlink. No amount of fiddling with Ubuntu seems to get any of these wireless devices working. However, I've made the most progress with Ubuntu which recognizes my BCM4306 and assings wlan0 to it. I've also tried Mint, OpenSuse and Fedora and not one Linux version works. Most identify the BCM4306 on the PCI bus but then it doesn't connect to the internet. Oddly enough, my wireless keyboard and mouse, both of which have USB dongles, work just fine. So does Windows XP.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless - Lost It - 'wmaster0 No Wireless Extensions', But Then Refers To Wlan0 As The Wireless Connection

Mar 28, 2010

A friend who switched ISP's gave me his old Linksys WRT54-G wireless router. I went through the installation procedure and had a wireless connection up and running - smiley face. I had security set up for WPA, and decided to upgrade it to WPA2. Another smiley face. When I went to connect (had already done so successfully), I noticed it referred to my wireless as Linksys - I was expecting to see the SSID. So I started playing around in Network Manager and now I have things all effed up.

Don't know exactly what I did, but now I have no wireless. So I ran a few commands (lshw -C network, iwconfig, ifconfig, and iwlist scan), and looking at the results I see what appear to be inconsistencies in the output. I've posted them below, and make the following observations:

1. Under the lshw it refers to my wireless connection logical name as wmaster0, and has the correct MAC address, etc.

2. Under the iwconfig it says, 'wmaster0 no wireless extensions', but then refers to wlan0 as the wireless connection (although it does not seem to be running).

3. Under ifconfig I see both a wlan0 and a wlan0:avahi. The wlan0 has no IP, the wlan0:avahi does, but it is incorrect.

I followed the instructions here first: [URL] and installed version 6 update 19. It came up as an add-on in firefox but didn't do anything. When I pull up a page with java on it the page just says it is disabled and I can click to install it. However, I then get was getting a box saying: "E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages." I have since removed update 19, done a complete removal in synaptic, and reinstalled JRE and the plugin by going to a page in firefox and clicking the install button. Now it still isn't under my extensions list in firefox, it says it's disabled on pages with java, and when I click to install it says I already have it. I'm running Karmic koala by the way.
