I've just bought a GEETEK Hercules USB Wlan adapter, which has the Ralink rt3072 chipset. The Connection manager can find wireless APs, but it won't connect to any of those. Also, aircrack-ng does not find any APs while scanning. After some tinkering and a lot of restarting, I can now connect t wireless networks, although slowly. However, I still can't use it with aircrack-ng.
Im running Ubuntu 11.04 with alfa awus036nh. I first tried to install drivers from alfa disc for RT3070. Everything seemed to be working but i got the imfamous mon0 channel -1 problem with aireplay-ng. Did some research-downloaded and tried different drivers rt2800 rtl 8170. Bottom line is i dont know what THE F*** im doing. I think i installed three different drivers. Now airodump doesnt show any output. Im going crazy. Is linux designed to make ppl go crazy. Windows is calling me to go back to it. THings shouldnt be this complicated. BTW im on a asus laptop with atheros ar 9285 card in it. a breif explanation of how drivers work in linux . Once again maybe im just putting the cart b4 the horse as im only about 2 weeks fresh into ubuntu.
I am running Lucid Lynx, kernel 2.6.32.23 generic, I have a card with the Broadcom BCM4311, with the STA Linux Wireless driver. I have no idea how to get monitor mode to work with the Aircrack-ng suite's Airmon-ng command. I use the command: sudo airmon-ng start eth1
And I get this output: Found 5 processes that could cause trouble. If airodump-ng, aireplay-ng or airtun-ng stops working after a short period of time, you may want to kill (some of) them!
PID Name 883 NetworkManager 893 avahi-daemon 896 avahi-daemon 931 wpa_supplicant
I know some wireless card can work in Master Mode but it seems use madwifi driver. I know madwifi doesn't support usb dongles find a usb wireless card which can work as AP under Ubuntu. I have check this list [URL] I am not sure if ar9170usb.ko and its device support Master MOde.
I'm new to Ubuntu. Today, I took my old Compaq Presario V3010US and gave it life with Ubuntu 10.04. The hard drive was erased and replaced with the Linux OS stuff. Ubuntu recognizes most of the hardware except my Broadcom wireless card. I find this to be a pain because i'm a newbie to linux stuff. Anyway, can anyone help me fix this? I thank you for your time reading this.
Any opinions on which of the PCMCIA wireless cards work the best out of the box? I currently have a USB wireless adapter but want to get rid of it and use my PCI slot on the laptop. I am currently running lucid. I would rather not have to mess around with NDISWRAPPER again, something that has a native linux driver would be great.
I have been running F13 since it came out, with the wireless working fine since I got it working (using the RPM Fusion repository, broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13). Since I updated software (without reading what was to be updated), yesterday, I am unable to even find wireless networks, although I am, as you can see, able to access through eth0 It is not a hardware problem, as I can not only find them, but access them on Ubuntu 9.10 live disc. Below is my lspci

I have been trying to find a wireless card that will readily work with Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop. Preferably an +802.11 N with an indoor range of between 300 to 400 ft. with possibly two antennas. Am finding many that say linux on the box but find that it ain't so. Also most times with no instructions or very convoluted process that results in errors.
I'm trying to find a driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR928X) and I think it's ath9k what I need. As far as I know there isn't a linux driver for it, so I installed ndiswrapper to use a windows driver instead. The problem is that when I type modprobe ndiswrapper I get "bash: modprobe: command not found" (even as root). I know I'm missing something about modprobe, but I can't find any help on google. Anyway, I installed ndisgtk next, because I thought it would be easier, but when I go to System> Administration> Windows Wireless Drivers I get a message "Unknown error".Do you have any ideas on how I'll make ndiswrapper work?
I am recently trying to get a steady wireless connection running. I am currently using the default settings/driver Fedora 13 is stocked with. As my internet browsing is somewhat up and down in load times, I decided to check in a video game which is generally a good test for me. haha I am harshly spiking and cannot find the source of my problem so my guess is a driver issue.

It is is seemingly right, my Windows 7 harddrive works just fine, this is just one last of the few issues I'm having from fully formatting my winblows HD to use as Linux storage.
I cannot find any native AR5008 Linux Drivers for my card and it has been a frustrating day. I guess I'm not cut to be a network analyst just yet.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I can't get my Wireless Card & Wired Card to work at the same time. My interfaces file is incorrect, when I comment out 1 of the interfaces the other works. I have attached my interfaces file.
How do you find one that runs in USB and how do you find it when it runs from a pci port. i already know that you might be able to find the kind of driver that is required to run the device
Lots of people have accomplished this by using aircrack but some operating systems can't install aircrack (not to mention that the use of some software is illegal depending on where you live) so i want an alternative.
I have tried to compile Aircrack -ng in Opensuse 11.2 I have received the following output
linux-z7wt:/home/jcaser/aircrack-ng-1.1 # make make -C src all make[1]: se ingresa al directorio `/home/jcaser/aircrack-ng-1.1/src' make -C osdep make[2]: se ingresa al directorio `/home/jcaser/aircrack-ng-1.1/src/osdep' Building for Linux
Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I can not install a driver for device EDUP WU2070. I have a disk with a driver for linux general. I don't know how to compile a makefile. My OS 11.3v doesn't see a device. But when I run in Live CD mode all drivers install automatically and my WI-FI device work properly.
I have lenovo thinkpad, T61 with Intel 4965AGN wireless card. It is a N card, it works under N mode in windwos, but not in Ubuntu (10.10). I installed ndiswrapper and got the windows xp drivers for this card. the issue is that i got an error when installing the drivers and since then I cannot use wireless.
The error i got is: Code: Module could not be loaded. Error was: FATAL: Could not read '/lib/modules/2.6.35-24-generic/kernel/ubuntu/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper.ko': No such file or director I unistalled the driver, but now under network connections no wireless connections appear, nothing. I cannot use wirless anymore.
Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.
The problem with my wireless network. I have Dell DV6 Pavilion 2115 eg laptop and i installed Ubuntu 11.4 and internet and wireless worked, until i reboted my system it has disapear. I cant no longer to connect to a wireless network. It dont shows me any wireless network. My wireless card is Atheros AR 9285 802.11b/g/n Wifi Adapter
I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.
Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.
have a dell Inspiron 1501 with ubuntu 10.0.4 I want to rename my wireless card from eth1 to wlan0 as I use conkyrc and it will not read my wireless strength or my ssid cuz it thinks it's a ethernet card and not wireless card. I know this for a fact because peppermint os my wireless card was wlan0 and it worked just fine.
