Ubuntu Networking :: After Boot Wireless USB Does Not Work / What To Do?

Nov 12, 2010

I've got this USB wireless stick using a Realtek RTL 8187l chipset plugged into a Lucid box running kernel 2.6.32-25.
Problem:
On every boot it will not connect because the stick is not recognized. Doing a lsusb or lspci reveals that it doesn't appear to be listed.
However. if I unplug the stick and plug it in again it works fine until next boot. code...

Doing lsmode doesn't show any USB or chipset modules loaded.

What can I do to solve this?

I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. I have looked this up, and i have tried many things, and so far, none have worked.I was wondering if it was just part of the trial thing or not, but it is a Broadcom Wireless BCM4318 driver

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wireless Must Be On During Boot Or It Will Not Work

May 11, 2010

I've just upgraded from openSUSE 11.2 to 11.3. In 11.2 everything worked fine: I've booted my laptop, logged in and turn my wireless card on using the hardware wireless button, the KDE Wallet opened up, I inserted the password and voil´┐Ż, wireless connection was on.But after upgrading from 11.3, it doesn't work like that anymore. I need to have the hardware wireless button pressed to on during boot, otherwise Network Manager will not work. And yes, I do check the "Enabled wireless" option, but it doesn't work. When I tried to check it out, I found out that the wireless "Scan" button that scans and displays the available wireless connections shows nothing. So, if I forget to put the wireless on for boot, I must restart and put it on. I've tried log off and log on, and restarting some network services, but neither worked.I have an Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG, as showed below, and I'm posting this message using it.

Result of /sbin/lspci:

Fedora Networking :: Doesn't Work After Turned Off Wireless By Pressing A Wireless Button On Laptop?

May 19, 2011

Recently I have installed Fedora 14 on my other laptop. It's a dual boot with Windows 7. Everything worked perfectly fine, networking included, until my friend didn't accidently turned off the wireless by pressing a wireless button on the laptop. Since then the wireless on Fedora doesn't work. It does on Windows thought. I've tried restarting the laptop few times, but the wireless still doesn't want to work again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get Wireless To Work At All

Mar 6, 2010

I've installed Ubuntu 9.1 on my Acer Aspire One ZG5 that was previously running Win XP with the wireless working fine. In ubuntu, though, i can't get the wireless to work at all and I don't really even know how to troubleshoot it. I've opened a terminal and used sudo to update various packages, but still nothing. It does appear as though the system recognizes the card since I can configure it, but I'm not keen on playing wi8th the BSSID and MAC address stuff because I just don't have any confidence that it will change my situation. Has anyone had any success with this setup (ubuntu 9.1 and acer one)? Is there a step-by-step wireless troubleshooting/ configuration process that's generic to ubuntu?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get Wireless To Work?

Apr 6, 2010

Let me start off by saying that I'm a complete Linux-noob. I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm really enjoying it. I was planning to install it for quite a while now but now that I have my own computer, I actually could make it happen. That being said, it's a whole difference with Windows though and sometimes it's hard to find my way in this new system. My main problem is that I can't seem to get my wireless connection working. From what I've read online this problem is not uncommon with Ubuntu 9.10?

I tried searching for my wireless card drivers in 'System > Administration > Hardware Drivers' but that didn't really work out. It did find a wireless card driver but when I try to activate it, it returns an error message. All the other drivers seem to be installed so I can't really see what the problem is. Can anyone help me with this?BTW, I think I also have a problem with the graphics card driver. When I try to active the 'extra' desktop effects is says this can't be activate. I already tried installing Compiz and the Composite Manager.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get Wireless To Work At All?

Aug 4, 2010

I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a computer I can't get the wireless to work. I looked into it, and I believe the problem is that I don't have the right driver to work with the wireless card, but I wasn't able to tell what my wireless card is properly. And when I got the bcmwl-kernel-source package and installed it, the driver still didn't appear under "hardware drivers". Compounding the problem, I can't use any sudo commands for some reason because when it prompts me to enter the sudo password, the keys other than "enter" don't seem to work. I probably don't have the right information up there.

The wireless enables after the person logs in, rendering the NFS export /home useless on the laptops. Is there anyway to have the wireless enable correctly on the boot so that NFS can mount properly at boot also?I'm using Fedora 11 (32bit) with a wireless router that has a security of WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]. Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get Wired Or Wireless To Work

Sep 9, 2010

I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 twice on two different laptops that had wireless cards that weren't working until I sudo apt-get update(d) them. After that, the wireless cards seem to miraculously work. But I was able to download them because they had working ethernet cards.

I'm working on a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 1150). I installed Ubuntu 9.10 like normal but I could not get a wired connection. I plugged in directly to my modem and it still cannot connect at all. It says that Auto eth0 is available, but it tries to connect but can't seems to make it. I downgraded to 9.04 to see if there was any changes, and there aren't. The same problem persists.

What's my next step to troubleshoot?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Get Wireless Adapter To Work

Dec 4, 2010

I love ubuntu, but I don't know how to use a command line to save my life. I'd just as soon never use a terminal ever. My big issue is I cannot get my wireless adapter to work. It is a keebox w150nu, which is based off the Ralink RT3070 chip. I am willing to use command line to get this thing to work because I love ubuntu to death, but everything I have tried has failed. I have gone to the Ralink website and downloaded the Tar.bz file from there. t

The file I grabbed is the third one down from the top: [URL].

I have absolutely no idea what to do from there with the file however. Please understand that I have zero idea how to use command line in a terminal. What I have to do to make this work? Is there a usb wireless N adapter that works straight away with ubuntu 10.10, as in I plug it in before the install, and it is immediately recognized and works immediately?
