Ubuntu Multimedia :: Getting NVidia ION To Output A 852 X 480 Signal?

Jan 20, 2010

On an Asrock ION 330HT-BD box Im running Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-17-generic) with the nVidia driver 185.18.36. The Asrock box uses the nVidia ION chip and the nVidia driver appears to be working without any problems.

My problem is, that I what to use the box as a MythTV frontend with an (old) SD Plasma screen as display, which have a native resolution of 852 x 480 and I cant get the box to output a 852 x 480 signal. The Plasma is connected with a HDMI -> DVI cable. No matter what settings I have tried in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, the box keeps outputting a 1024 x 768 (or higher) signal

Questions:

1) Is the nVidia ION chip capable of outputting a 852 x 480 signal?

2) If Yes to above, how do I configure my xorg.conf file?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No HDMI Output On 11.04 NVidia GeForce GTX 465?

I've seen a lot of threads on this issue and combed through most of them trying to diagnose my problem and I've gotten REALLY close but with no complete success yet.I have a nVidia GeForce GTX 465 and I'm running HDMI out to my monitor. I have video but no audio. I can see the device in the Hardware tab of Sound Preferences but for the life of me I can't get it to play any audio (aside from testing with white noise).Output from aplay -l:

I don't get an option for HDMI. Here is the interesting part. The sounds work sometimes but not all the times. Most of the time the sound works on the OS default sounds but wont work for movies, streaming and music. I am running pulseaudio. I am new to setting this audio up. The headphones work fine.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Cannot Select Digital Stereo Output On Nvidia Audio

Jul 27, 2010

I've done a search on google and on here regarding my issue and I couldn't see anything.

I have the following audio device;

Code:
00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
At the moment I have it playing through Analog Stereo Output. (See attached image)

The sound is mostly flawless and I haven't been having troubles with it.

But, because I play audio through my logitech speakers (2 speakers, 1 subwoofer) I should be able to get digital stereo sound shouldn't I?

From the drop down box of the attached image there are two options for Digital Stereo;

Digital Stereo Duplex IEC958
Digital Stereo IEC958 Output + Analog Stereo Input

None of them work for me. Even if I do a restart, I get no sound from Rhythmbox or Firefox.

I use the pulseaudio sound server and I have the PulseAudio device chooser installed. When I had the Digital Stereo Duplex IEC958 selected I used the Volume Meter playback to see if there was any sound coming through. Both left and right showed activity but nothing came through the speakers.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: HDMI Output To 32" LCD (1920x1080) - Nvidia And Video Performance

Apr 24, 2010

I have noticed that, using nvidia's latest drivers, HDMi output to my 32" LCD (1920x1080) and totem or vlc, the video on my LCD gets a bit "choppy" when the image changes faster.. some bars start appearing on the moving parts of the image.. like the system is having trouble rendering the video. This doesn't happen on my laptop screen even when both displays are running at the same time.

Also, this problem doesn't appear in windows 7, everything works perfectly there with one odd thing... the picture gets "choppy" on the laptop screen when I'm running both at the same time. It's not that noticeable, but I can tell the difference between windows and ubuntu in quality and it's annoying me

I've realized that when I'm in XBMC (which is admittedly the only place I watch movies) certain sounds like gunshots will be extremely louder than something like dialog. My friend believes that I should mess around with the channels (to fake the center channel from the left and right) I don't want to threaten Linux, how lightweight I can make it which is critical to an HTPC, but considering XBMC just got a Netflix addon

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Force X To Output Video Signal

Jan 25, 2010

I have a new cluster of four OpenSuSE servers serving VM's for a development lab. I have been fighting the good Linux/OpenSuSE fight against established Windows environment and I am embarrassed by certain hardware behavior in X.The four machines are in a cluster with an inexpensive TrendNet TK-407 KVM. The Linux Boxes are Dell T3500's with NVidia Quadro NVS290. I am not running the NVidia proprietary driver.

The behavior is that X keeps placing the display in sleep/powersave mode. If I boot the machine everything works until X takes over upon which point it decides that the display is not there and places it into standby.I don't care whether the KVM may or may not be responding correctly to some monitor protocol, and neither do I care to know or learn about the various DPMS or monitor protocols. The important thing here is that Windows experiences no such behavior. The solution I seek is to configure X to force the signal out of the card, disregarding any DPMS or other protocols.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.1 Nvidia Quadro FX-5000 (190.53) - Fatal Server Error: Caught Signal 11. Server Aborting

Mar 3, 2010

I am having a strange problem with the Opensuse 11.2 Xorg server. Graphics hardware is Nvidia Quadro FX-5000, driver is ver 190.53. 90% of the time, I am getting a seg violation from the Xserver on trying to login via kdm:

[Code]...

...is the error that is present in the "kdm.log" file. So far, it doesn't seem to be user dependent (happens either as root or joe random user,) Again, so far, it only seems to happen with "driver nvidia" enabled in the config file, not with "driver nv" The failure occurs shortly after hitting return on the login screen. After it fails, it starts up a new Xserver, and presents a new login screen. Repeated attempts seem to *eventually* succeed, but 90% of the time, it fails I strongly suspect the Nvidia driver, but I have not been able to find anything documenting any similar problems.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Old Video Card, Nvidia XFX 7800GT Now Beginning To Fail - Which Way Is Best, ATI Or Nvidia?

May 3, 2010

I have an old video card, Nvidia XFX 7800GT, which is now beginning to fail and I need to upgrade. I am not huge a gamer but I do play/buy games on regular basis. Right now I'm playing Eternal Lands on the Linux side. Looking to spend $100-$150 on a new card.I have a Core2Duo Wolfdale 3.0, with 2ghz ram and run Lucid 32bit. Also run windows Vista64Ultimate on dual boot (rarely).

I would love to buy a new ATI 5770 or 5830, ATI budget cards seem to be much better for the buck over budget Nvidia cards, but I'm concerned with ATI drivers and long term with Ubuntu. On the Nvidia side I'm considering the GTS 250. The only advantage I can find is lower power consumption with Nvidia and Ubuntu has always preferred Nvidia over ATI, as far as working drivers go.As Far as Ubuntu and Lucid is concerned, which way is best, ATI or Nvidia? Has anything changed with ATI support, that could make theor cards more compatible now and in the future?

I just installed a netgear router and was setting it up with the system to try to get Stanza on my IPAD to connect to Calibre. Anyway, i suffered a severe freeze up warranting a hard boot. I could see the drive working, ancillary drives lit up, keyboard lit up so I know the system is working. The monitor did not come on, It shows a yellow light indication no signal. It is a 28" Hansspree. I tested the monitor by hooking it to a laptop. The monitor is fine. I cannot see anything on the screen so I can't boot to repair mode or use a CD. There is no signal.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Tevii S650 Showing Signal When No Cable Plugged In

Oct 28, 2010

I am trying to get my tevii650 usb DVB-S2 tuner working. I seem to have installed all the correct drivers as far as I can tell.

When I scan for services and then use femon to look at the signal strength femon -H, I get a signal of around 83% with 0 SNR and BER. Then if I remove the feed the signal goes UP to 97% 0SNR and BER.

I am trying to monitor signal the signal level coming down from the satellite. I don't even want to be able to tune to any of the channels. Basically I want to use the PC as a glorified signal meter and datalogger.

I supposed that with 11.04 edition this problem would be solved. But it isn't. In fact I have serious problem now because the old kernel isn't listed in grub anymore.
