every time I try to try to update my library, banshee keeps crashing. It started after I relocated where my mp3 files are and changed the path in banshee too. I tried deleting the banshee folder under my home folder and removing and reinstalling banshee, but the problem persisted. This is the when it is run from terminal:
[Info 04:46:29.238] Running Banshee 1.8.0: [Ubuntu 10.10 (linux-gnu, x86_64) @ 2010-11-26 14:10:54 UTC]
[Info 04:46:29.569] Starting collection of anonymous usage data

When I try to play anything in banshee it crashes with the error:
Code: ================================================================= Got a SIGSEGV while executing native code. This usually indicates a fatal error in the mono runtime or one of the native libraries used by your application. =================================================================
Same thing happens with Listen and Rhythmbox, but with a segmentation fault.
Amarok doesn't even get past the splash screen, but that's more or less okay because I'd rather stick with gnome.
Guayadeque is the only decent music player that works, and even it isn't without its issues. Audacious also works, but I don't like Audacious(the whole "one big playlist" system... ew).
Of course if I had my way I'd skip gnome music players entirely and go with foobar2000, but wouldn't you know it, that doesn't work either. [URL]
I'm using 10.04 beta, but these problems were present on 9.10 too.
Banshee have crashed 3 times 'til now when I try to change the volume inside the program. It happened only 3 times, but now I'm afraid to change the volume and change it directly with the speaker's controls. One more question. When banshee crashes, all the system gets freezed. I tried with the console (CTRL+ALT+F1) but I don't know how to kill the banshee process.
Each time when I start Banshee Media Player it crashes or I get the error message fatal error, I want to know what occurred to Banshee Media of being in a such state and what could I do to fix this problem.
I just got a Samsung U5, and although I could drag and drop, it's not as good as syncing. I've tried using both rhythmbox and banshee to sync my music from a playlist. It only happens when I set it to MTP, that both programs tend to crash. If I set it to MCS none of them will even detect the device, but will both work fine as music players. So far, rhythmbox just freezes and won't let me do anything with the device. Banshee only syncs half of the music files and comes up with this error. LIBMTP_Send_Track_From_File_Descripto():subcall to LIBMTP_Send_FIle_From_File failed I've tried several times and it'll only add a couple of more songs.
I used to be able to sync my music with HTC Hero and Banshee, but when I upgraded to 2.1 quite a while back banshee seems to crash. I now have a Nexus One (Android 2.2) and that does the same. (no longer have the Hero). They both seem to crash Banshee when it gets to syncing the playlists (every time), music syncs fine. Does anyone else on 2.1 or 2.2 have this problem or is it just me? (been doing searches every now and then since the Hero update but cant find anything).
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and recently upgraded Banshee Media Player which I had been using for months no problem. I'm not sure what version I was using before and I'm not sure what version I'm using now. I assume 1.8.0 or higher. Here's what I get when I type 'banshee' into the terminal:
So I found banshee and decided to try and manage my old music library for real. Many of my imported CDs are really old so they have little to no meta-data connected to them. I found the last.fm fingerprinting addon and it seemed like it was the right thing. However I have some problems. Every time I try to use the fingerprinting I need to login to last.fm so for an album of 17 tracks I need to login about 17 times.
Connected to this is the problem that banshee doesn't seem to always write the new data to the file. I have checked that I allow it to write meta-data to file and change names of files. But sometimes it doesn't seem to stick. Is this how it is suppose to work? If not, how could i fix it? I haven't found any threads or pages that describe this problem. But I would assume this would be a problem for those with previously unmanaged audio tracks. On a side note. I would like to convert my mp3 and other formats to ogg or similar free format. What would you recommend for this? Can banshee do this? I haven't searched for this yet but I thought I'd ask anyway. Is there some nice app that can do this for a whole library or similar?
I found out that every time I play a file from my Banchee playlist after restarting my computer it won't play. The cure for this is just opening places/ntfs partition. After that it plays the same playlist normaly. But it's anoying having to do this every time..
The first time I opened banshee in 11.04 it didn't load up all my music files. I went to rescan the music library to bring them up and it froze my system.Upon restarting I tried opening banshee again and it crashed. The details are below. My previous experience with banshee are not all that great. Is there a way to make this work better or a way to remove it from 11.04 all together?Error Details:Encountered a Fatal ErrorException has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

When I opened Banshee today and tried to play a certain song, the player crashed. When I opened the player again, it continued to crash for only the same songs.

I temporarily fixed this by disabling all extensions, reenabling them, then restarting Banshee, but the problem came back a few minutes later.
Everytime Banshee tries to switch songs from a local folder it crashes with. I have tried completely removing it and reinstalling but that did nothing. Here is what I get when I run it from a terminal.

I'm running banshee 1.5.2 on opensuse 11.2 (x64) with KDE 4.3.1 release 6. Each time I select the Import Media option banshee simply crashes. I have reinstalled/upgraded banshee from scratch but still get the same issue. Here is what I see in the debug (banshee-1 --debug) log at the point of the crash.

Anyway, I installed Ubuntu normally. Whenever I try to run Firefox for the first time, it loads for a bit, then it crashes. Every time. I tried reinstalling it, and the isntallation was fine. I managed to connect properly. But it won't run.
The system freezes all the time and I have no idea why, and the temp of core goes up to 56. Also, on the boot, right after grub menu selection, it restarts itself sometimes, again I have no idea why. I have lenovo y530. Which logs do you need?
After an upgrade to 10.04, every time I unplug the AC adapter, the laptop crashes, and immediately shuts down and restarts, and will boot up normal, and shut down again as soon as it reaches the login screen. The laptop only runs fine when the cable is plugged in.I'm assuming this has something to do with the gnome power manager.I'm running an HP Pavilion dv4-2012la .
Compiz is utterly unusable, ever since probably about 9.04 or 9.10, when Ubuntu took out the Catalyst drivers for my laptop w/ Mobility Radeon HD 2300 their less capable open-source variants, which crashes after about 15 minutes of use.
The screen gradually becomes less responsive for about 5 seconds, until it just completely freezes and becomes completely unresponsive to any keyboard or mouse commands. I tried using the RadeonHD drivers instead and the problem is still there. The 'Hardware Drivers' app in System > Administration doesn't seem to do detect any fglrx drivers for my system.
My amarok crashes everytime. I saw an similar problem posted at OpenSUSE 11.3: Amarok crashes on startup. And I suspect this is because of the nvidia drivers that I installed, just as is the case in the above mentioned thread. What should I do to overcome this now? Is there a solution posted? After I read the above thread, I deleted all the repositories except for the four. I had these following repositories prior:
I'm running F 13 and today's updates included updates to Xorg, so I logged out and back in to let them take effect. Ever since then, Firefox has been repeatedly crashing, especially on certain sites. I managed to get the crash reporting tool to report it to Bugzilla, but when I try to go back to add the bug report to this post, Firefox crashes, every single time. Has anybody else found this? If somebody can get to bugzilla.redhat.com and find the report (The email address I use there is email@example.com if it helps.) I'd appreciate having it added as a response to this, so that others can find it and,
I'm using Banshee for my music and video collection because it works and looks much better than Rhythmbox in my opinion. The only thing that refuses to work (correctly) is the audiobook-feature. I have all my audiobooks (different formats - m4b, mp3, ...) stored in a special folder. The subfolders have no distinct order, sometimes it is author/title, sometimes author - title/ and some books even are in my audiobooks root-folder. I have selected the audiobook folder in the banshee preferences but no audiobooks are shown in banshee. I tried changing the selected folder, changing the structure of the subfolders, but nothing helped. The only thing that worked was importing the audiobooks into the music library and take them to the audiobooks-section in banshee using drag&drop. But when I removed them from my music library, they were also removed from the audiobooks section. This can't be the right way, because in that casse the option to select the audiobooks-folder in the preferences would be useless. What is the right (intended) way to get audiobooks into banshee?
My music is stored on a NAS on my home network. I am trying to get Banshee to see my MP3's on the NAS. It looks like Banshee only will support local folders. So, is a sym link (symbolic link) in a local folder be the solution? If so, what's the syntax? I know the basic form is ln -s <dir 1> <dir 2>. Ubuntu's file browser sees the folder as 'smb://192.168.1.200/volume_1/level1/level2/level3/MP3's' I haven't had any success trying to create a sym link to the NAS folder.
Or, am I approaching this totally wrong and can Banshee support the NAS without a sym link?
LIVECD of 11.3 Gnome works fine in my old PC. I installed several times and each time system freezes/crashes during boot. I am linux newbie, so, I am trying to figure out my problems.
