Ubuntu :: Mozilla 3.6.6 - Logging Into GoDaddy Account Keeps Displaying The Login Screen And Not My Accounts Page

Sep 7, 2010

Since I have upgraded to Lucid (and thus to Mozilla 3.6.6), I am experiencing a bunch of annoyances with Mozilla.

1) logging into my GoDaddy account keeps displaying the login screen and not my accounts page (yes, I checked the password)
2) creating an account in bugzilla resulted in an "Invalid OpenID transaction" error message instead of a confirmation page
3) the [URL] page popped up a parser error instead of the website.

Midori and Mozilla 3.0.8 work just fine. Does anybody else have problems with mozilla 3.6.6 and above?

Ubuntu :: Lucid - Not Logging In According To The Login Screen Settings?

Jun 30, 2010

I want my Ubuntu 10.04 to login to an Xterm session every time, so I changed it to auto login to Xterm in the login screen settings. This worked fine until I went to do something in a gnome session again, and now even though it is still selected as logging into Xterm automatically, it logs into a Gnome session. Can anyone help me with fixing this?

Ubuntu Installation :: Desktop Session Crashes To Login Screen Soon After Logging In?

Oct 10, 2010

After upgrading my netbook (Eee 1005HA) from Ubuntu Lucid to Maverick, I can log in okay, but it crashes back to the login screen a couple of minutes after logging in, after the desktop has loaded. I haven't been able to find anything in syslog/dmesg/etc. about why this is happening, but it isn't happening on my other laptop which I just upgraded to Maverick as well.

Edit: memtest86+ showed no errors and the live USB desktop works fine.

General :: Logging In Sends Back To Xubuntu Login Screen?

Feb 17, 2010

When I start up my computer Xubuntu is asking me to login (which is strange as I have login disabled). Then, when I do enter my password, it is accepted and after a few screen changes I am returned to the login screen. (I know the password is correct as the login screen informs you immediately if you enter it incorrectly.) Also, I can see that my display settings have been changed--the monitor resolution is wrong--my cursor is way big as are buttons, text etc..

Ubuntu Installation :: After Logging In The Screen Remains In The Login Splash And A Small Terminal Appears In The Upper Left Corner

Jan 23, 2010

recently had to reinstall ubuntu 9.10....after all the updates & changes i made in synaptic and some restarts, i wanted to proceed in installing my nvidia drivers, so i stopped gdm and attempted to login as root, but it would not let me. it's strange because i created the root account password prior to this.

so, issuing the command to restart gdm brought me to the login window. after logging in, the screen remains in the login splash and a small terminal appears in the upper left corner. can't seem to get gnome started up.

Ubuntu :: Accounts Management With 10.04 - At Start-up With Which Account Would Like To Log In ?

Jan 20, 2011

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop (A665).

I recently created a "guest" account.

I would like that the computer asks me, at start-up, with which account I would like to log in. Instead, it always logs in with my own account (admin) without asking any password, even if I checked the box that enables the password check at start-up.

Then after 60 seconds max it asks for password at last!

Is there a way to choose, at the beginning, which user account should log in?

Ubuntu :: PHP Files Downloading And Not Displaying Page

Nov 19, 2010

When I try to load a php file my browser downloads the file instead of displaying the page. Here is my apache conf file.
#
# Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
# This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See [URL] for detailed information about the directives.
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure consult the online docs. You have been warned.
# The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
# 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a whole (the 'global environment').
# 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server, which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
# These directives also provide default values for the settings of all virtual hosts.
# 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the same Apache server process.
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "/var/log/apache2/foo.log" with ServerRoot set to "" will be interpreted by the
# server as "//var/log/apache2/foo.log".

OpenSUSE Install :: Normal User Cannot Login - Screen Blinks - A Black Page Appears

Jun 27, 2010

I can't log into my normal user account anymore, though I can log in with root without any problem. When I enter my normal user name and password, the screen blinks, a black page appears and after a couple of seconds I get the login screen again. I deleted /tmp files but no changes. I tried to login using command mode. So I hit Ctrl-Alt-F1 and log into root in command mode, then ran init3, then switched user to my normal user and ran startx. It worked and I logged into my normal account, but I can not do this process every time. So, what is the problem? How can I solve this problem? I used to work with my normal user flawlessly. I installed a bunch of software and also copied some folders to my home directory, but I don't know whether these activities caused the problem or not. I'm using KDE4 under openSUSE 11.2.

Ubuntu :: User Accounts And Groups Not Listed In Account Admin Tool?

May 7, 2010

I recently ran into a situation where the ftp user account suddenly could not login. I used the User and Groups system tool to check the user account and reset the password. I then attempted to use ftp and login with the new password and still could not. I then went to check the permissions on the folder and found that the system partition was full, so using gpartd I was able to resize the system partition.

However this still did not fix the ftp login problem. When I opened the User and Groups tool again, all users, including my main account, except root are no longer displayed and all groups are not showing. If I try to add the original ftpuser account I get the message that the user already exists. And my main account works for login still. If I add a new user, it is not displayed in the list either.

If I do a cat /etc/passwd I see all the users listed including the new one I created and cat /etc/group displays all the groups and everything looks like the users are still associated with the correct groups. I can use passwd to change the account password without error and I can use adduser to add another user. Howerver no users are listed in the User and Groups tool and users still can not login to ftp. I can reinstall proftp if needed but I would like to be able to use the User and Groups tool to administer users again.

PS: Forgot that just before encountering the ftp login problem, Update Manager and some updates listed that I attempted to install but got an error and didn't have time to check why. Now I know that the partition was full.

Debian Multimedia :: Iceweasel Page Rendering - Not Displaying Portions Of Pages Properly ?

Jun 10, 2011

I guess this is a part deux, since I already posted one rendering issue which was eventually resolved ... having to do with the themes of this Debian Forum. Well, I don't know if this is related to that, but yesterday I noticed on another site that my Iceweasel 4.01 is not displaying portions of pages properly. See attached images. Both Chrome & Opera display that page correctly, I've included a screenshot of the same page with Chrome. I have JAVA installed and everything works perfectly fine accross the board on all browsers, except for this "once in a while" issue with Iceweasel. I've noticed this "missing content oddity" on three sites so far (out of 50 or more). No problem with eBay, craigslist, paypal, and other major players.

Open the images with a new tab, then compare both images side by side for best results.

Programming :: Bash Scripting - Logging To The Virtual Account?

May 21, 2011

I need to write a bash script that will allow me to manage my "virtual network" (in reality just a bunch of directories and files). I need to obtain something like : I have my own command 'connect'. We can use it in two different modes: user and admin. If I type 'connect adashiu virtual_machine_name, computer will ask about password, if password is correct he will change a prompt to :

adashiu_at_virtual_machine_name >

after that user can start to use commands reserved only for user mode. Analogically with admin mode: prompt 'admin >' and administrator can only use bunch of commands reserved for him. changing prompt and separated commands for user and admin ?

My install of 11.4 has been running perfectly for for several weeks now. But- (always a but) today it started acting up. I cannot log in to any user account including Root after logging out. After a cold boot I can log in again anywhere but after logging out I have to reboot again then I can get back in to any account once. After logging out any attempted log in causes the splash screen to blank for a few seconds and then it comes back with the previous successful user name log in but typing in the password blanks the screen a few seconds again. Clicking on a user account also blanks the screen a few seconds and then it again comes back with the previous log in users name.

Programming :: Attempting To Record The Redirect Url Using Wget And Logging In In Seperate Page?

Feb 10, 2009

My friend has a website whereby once you have logged in on one page, you are redirected to another page, with a url similar to:

[URL]

the random string changes each time you log in, however the login page has a static url What i was attempting to do is run a script to get some data from the members page (after uve logged in) - however ive been having some trouble in how to do this, as the variable url with the random string will become invalid after a certain time, and i did not want to consantly change it.

While reading through some documentation i read that wget should be able to login to a form login website however ive had no luck, the command i was attempting to use was:

wget --user USERNAME -password PASSWORD [URL]

similarly i also tried

wget --post-data "username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD" [URL]

and even both combined. However neither has worked as the html dl'd is simply the login page website. I cannot post a direct link to the website as it is private, however ive looked at the source coding and ive extracted (what i think) is the relevant bit, which is:

Code:

<form action="/cgi-bin/sblogin/login.cgi" method="post" name="login" id="login"><br /><br />
<div class="user_text"><span class="text3">USERNAME:</span></div><div class="user_box"><input type="text" class="text" name="uname"></div>
