Ubuntu :: Monitor Unknown Intel Graphics

Jan 27, 2011

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Dell Latitude D430 that I use at work. I have it on my desk docked going to a Dell LCD Monitor. When I go into the monitor set up it says Unknown for the monitor and Laptop for the actual laptop display. Also, I have very low resolutions for the "Unknown" monitor.

I am trying to resolved this issue so that I have better resolutions on the external monitor and then I can try to extend the desktop between 2 screens.

I found something online about adding the intel PPA and I did that, but now what. There is no xorg.conf that I can find for 10.10.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Boot With Intel Graphics Without Monitor Switched On?

May 12, 2010

i'm trying since ubuntu karmic to set up a xorg.conf for a special purpose. I've a htpc connected to my tv. Intel GMA 4500, DVI->HDMI-cable connected, Lucid Lynx installed. When the machine boots with the TV powered on, everything is perfect. xrandr reports all valid modes on output "DP2". Without the TV powerd on, Lucid starts in the low graphics mode, with the funny zenity-message. So far, i managed to disable all useless outputs (VGA1, HDMI1, DP1, HDMI2), leaving DP2 enabled. I managed this by assigning outputs to monitors and adding Option "Ignore" "True" to the corresponding monitor-sections. My only remaining problem is, that the intel-driver reports no connected monitor on output DP2. The TV is connected, but shut off. Has anyone got a hint to tell the driver to ignore the presence of a monitor?

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Unable To Use Dual Monitor With Intel Hd Graphics

Nov 26, 2010

I've installed CentOS 5.5 64 bit on a Dell Latitude e6410. This model only contains Intel HD Graphics, not the extra Nvidia card you could also buy in addition. The getinfo output can be found here:[URL] Initially X11 did not work at all (blank screen), but using hints from other posts in this forum I was able to fix this by editing the file xorg.conf using the vesa driver, although I still do not get the native screen resolution of 1200x800 (I alwas get 1152x768).

Now I want to add an external monitor (Samsung Monitor connected via DVI, screen resolution 1680x1050). Unfortunately as soon as I try to configure the dual head mode using the system-config-display tool after restart of the X server there will be the the blank screen again. I tried various drivers with no luck.Has anyone succeeded setting up dual head on an Intel HD Graphics machine? I understand that this hardware is quite new and and would be easier to set up with more recent distros, but I would like to stick to CentOS, but cannot wait for CentOS 6.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 On Intel Core I5 With Integrated Graphics + Intel H55 Express Chipset

Aug 18, 2010

! I'm thinking of buying a corei5-660 on a motherboard with an Intel H55 Express Chipset. Does anyone know if it's fully compatible with OpenSUSE 11.3? I mean video (that comes from the processor, not an off-board PCI), audio (HD Audio), networking (Intel 82578DC Gigabit), SATA Controller, USB, etc. I've tried to google but didn't find much info so I wonder if anyone is using or knows where I can find more info about it...

I have found this thread on the forums about the H55 chipset: Core i3 Intel Clarkdale graphic controller problem But the problems were facing on 11.2, I don't know about 11.3...

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Intel HD Graphics (Intel Core I3) With Suse 11.3 - Poor Resolution

Jan 2, 2011

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.

I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.

I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Triple Monitor Setup: X Crashes When Moving To The Second Graphics Card (third Monitor)

Oct 22, 2010

This is a triple-monitor setup with two video cards, where the mouse pointer gets "stuck" if it tries to cross from one video card to the next one. It worked correctly in openSUSE 11.2 and doesn't work in openSUSE 11.3 with the same xorg.conf. This is a 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 with xorg 7.5-11.3 (the openSUSE prepackaged version). I've already tried NVidia drivers 256.53-16.1 (the openSUSE NVidia repository version) and 260.19.12 (the latest off of the NVidia website).

This is the same xorg.conf that I used successfully in openSUSE 11.2. I tried a new automatically generated xorg.conf using nvidia-settings and it had the same problem. This forum won't let me upload the relevant files, but here: [URL] is a tar-ball with my xorg.conf, Xorg.*.log, /var/log/messages, and the NVidia debugging output.

Unfortunately I've had no luck with using the default intel driver. It's strange really, you can see the gnome screen for a split second then it turns the display off like it's activating the external monitor or something. If I change the driver to vesa everything is fine.

Ubuntu :: How Can Laptop Screen Be Unknown Monitor

Aug 19, 2010

Mine is, ever since I installed the (wrong) opensource video driver for my Ubuntu 9.04 & Lenovo ThinkPad T41 (the one model, imho, they should never have let out the door!), uninstalled it by far-less-than-recommended means (ie, I used Synaptic and sudo apt-get remove and apt-get purge). End up is now my screen has a max resolution of 800 x 600, and Display panel insists that this laptop's screen is an "Unknown" Monitor.

Any tweaks to /etc/X11/xorg.conf (adding vertical refresh and horizontal sync rates for example) has resulted in its own weird behavior. On having my password accepted at login, there's a half-second of white that "rolls" over the screen horizontally. The next thing I see is a diagonal broken streak of white about 2 1/2" down from the top of the screen and 3 inches in from the right-hand side. The next thing I see is a buzzed, jagged rendition of my normal desktop. Nothing at all is clear, and the jags seem to redouble themselves the further one scans down on the screen. The only thing one can do in this situation, and I've done so enough times to know, is a hard reboot (power button for ten seconds or however long it takes).

And as I don't rate sh*t for a shilling on the Ubuntu forums, and as Google has been worse than useless every time I search for problems as detailled as these (it's like K-Mart: it has what you want until you go to look for it!), and as my one self-styled "Lunix-Geek" friend (now in the UK) has only briefly battled the xserver-xorg beasts, I'm coming here to see if anyone knows something else I could do besides bite the bullet, say goodby to my accumulated goodies, and reinstall Ubuntu.

Hardware :: What To Do When Monitor Is Unknown?

Dec 4, 2010

I have a new Television that is connected to a computer running Ubuntu 10.04 with a VGA cable. It works, but the only resolutions I can use are 1024x768, 800x600 and many lower ones. Since the resolutions are 4:3 and the television is not, there are big black areas on the side. I can chose format - wide screen on the television, but then the proportions are wrong. And when I play a movie, it's usually very small with big black areas on the edges.

I got rid of these drivers, I'd used them if they'd work, but they just made matters worse.Any ideas what to do? Maybe upgrading to 10.10 would help? But I'd prefer to stick with the LTS versions if possible.

Ubuntu :: Low Graphics Mode - Intel 845G

Jul 30, 2010

Have a reasonably old HP D510 running onboard Intel 845G graphics, which has worked fine to date using Suse 10/11.x x86 and also have tried various Ubuntu breeds on it before, as well. Have just installed Kubuntu 10.04, and am having issues that irregularly, and apparently randomly, screen goes black and I get a message saying "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode".

I OK this and get a messages asking me what I would like to do:
1 Run in low graphic for this session
2 Reconfigure graphic
3 Troubleshoot
4 Exit to console
5 Restart x

Basically, none of these work. If I click 2, there are a number of choices which don't work, can only cancel. Basically the only fix is a reboot, and it will again work for a 'random period of time'. Have never had this issue previously, so it is obviously something that has been introduced with 10.04? Briefly installed Ubuntu 10.04 prior to Kubuntu, and think I had the same prob.

Ubuntu Installation :: Unknown Monitor In Natty With Nomodeset

I'm trying to upgrade my sister to natty, but it wont boot properly unless I use nomodeset. It didn't need this in maverick, and she doesn't need any proprietary drivers, as she only has onboard laptop graphics (intel mobile 4 series I think..) So when I boot it into the LiveCD the resolution is wrong, so I go into system > preferences > monitors but it wont let me change the resolution as the monitor is listed as "Unknown" I also tried LinuxMint 11 (Katya) but it was the same (it is based on ubuntu anyways so it's not surprising.)

Ubuntu :: Lost Compiz On Lucid With Intel HD Graphics?

Jul 23, 2010

I honestly have no clue how this happened, but compiz now refuses to start. I discovered that somehow GLX had been uninstalled and replaced by SWX (the software rasterizer - this gives Brian Paul as the OpenGL/GLX server vendor strings). Reinstalled GLX, currently have Direct Rendering and the proper vendor strings (SGI and Tungsten, I believe).Still nothing. OpenGL seems to be working fine, as Nexuiz runs pretty well.I tried running compiz --replace from the terminal to get any errors, but it just spits out "Falling back to default window manager", without so much as a hex code to tell me why--------Update---------Ran compiz --debug --replace to see if I could get anything else. It gives the following:Quote:taintsauce@the-****ing-fury:~$ compiz --replace --debugcompiz (core) - Debug: Could not stat() file /home/taintsauce/.compiz/plugins/libcore.so : No such file or directorycompiz (core) - Debug: Could not stat() file /usr/lib/c

Ubuntu :: Installing Intel HD Graphics Drivers On Maverick 10.10?

I am totally new to Ubuntu but have been tinkering for a week now. Can't say I have figured a thing out, thank God for Google, Linux is just not for the novice user. I guess thats where Windows comes in but I really like the stability of Linux and the fact it is Open Source and free. Wish I was a cool programmer or someone who has worked with the OS for a while, that would make things a lot easier. Where can I study up and get a little more educated about what I am doing? Anyway hopefully someone can answer the driver question. Lastly is there anyway to get Hardware Acceleration if using an Intel i5 system?
