Ubuntu :: Finish Creating Raid1 Ramdisk/hdd Partition?

Mar 8, 2011

After some hours of googling, I've managed to increase the size of the default ramdisks (/dev/ram0-16) to 1 GiB each, I raided them together with mdadm to try it out, then created a filesyste, mounted it etc etc. No problems. The problem comes when I used gparted to move my windows partition over and in the unallocated space (1 GiB), I created an unformatted partition (/dev/sda2)Now when I try to create the raid array I get the following:

Code:
:~$ sudo mdadm --create /dev/md0 -l 1 -n 2 /dev/ram0 /dev/sda2
mdadm: Cannot open /dev/sda2: Device or resource busy

Programming :: Cmake: Using Find_package(Boost) When FindBoost.cmake Is Not In The Default Location?

Feb 23, 2010

I am attempting to compile some code on a cluster where I do not have root access (and is missing many of the libraries I want), and hence have had to create local builds of the boost and opencv libraries (i.e. in /home/username/usr/local). In particular, my cmake depends on:

Code:

find_package(boost)

which my normal development machine finds in:

Code:

/usr/share/cmake-2.6/Modules/FindBoost.cmake

On the cluster I have a version of FindBoost.cmake at:

Code:

/home/username/cmake_modules

How can I tell CMake to look for FindBoost.cmake in that directory, since neither the cmake file, nor the boost install is in the standard location? I've modified the FindBoost.cmake file to make it search in the locally installed boost libraries.

Ubuntu :: Finish Editing The Grub Menu.1st File?

Aug 10, 2010

I'm trying to find out which hard drive my vista installation is labeled in ubuntu so I can finish editing the grub menu.1st file.

All it says on the sourceforge page is

Quote:

Root - You likely have something along these lines "(hd0,1)". "hd0" refers to the your hard drive while 1 points to the partition. Note that for GRUB, partitions start at 0 and not 1. for example 0=Partition 1, 1=Partition 2 and so on.

It doesn't say how I can find out which one my vista is. So I need to know what my hard drive is in linux. Is it hd0,1 or hd0 or what?

Ubuntu :: Kubuntu 10.04 .run File - Get A Window That Asks For My Password ?

Aug 27, 2010

I'm new to Linux altogether. I installed World of Warcraft and have it running, but my framerates are low. I have it set to run in OpenGL already, so I figured I'd try to update my graphics driver. I downloaded the driver and it's a .run file. I have it set to run as an executable. When I run the file, I get a window that asks for my password. I input my password and press enter. Shortly, I get a window that says I need to run this file as super user. I tried to go into the command line and I typed "sudo home/nicholas/downloads/ati-driver-installer-10-8-x86.x86_64.run". I put in my password and Konsole tells me "run: command not found". How would I run this file in Konsole using super user?

OpenSUSE Install :: Where Is Package Group Development (kdevelop4)

I hunted down kdevelop4 through yast. I found it finally by entering "Integrated Development Environment" in the search text box, clicking "Description" only, and clicking Search. I'm backtracking now to figure out how to find it and other development tools/ide's quicker in the future.I clicked the Technical Data tab for kdevelop4 and in the details, "Package Group" shows "Development/Tools/IDE".In Yast, I then clicked on the "Package Groups" tab and searched on the left-hand side for "Development". But it's now there.

In OpenSuSE 10.3, when I viewed the Package Groups tree structure, there was a node, "Development" which contained kdevelop3. But I can't seem to find the "Development" Package Group in OpenSuSE 11.2.

OpenSUSE Install :: Creating ISO-file From Burnt ISO-file On CD-R Gives Different File Length

Jul 25, 2010

I downloaded three iso-images, 1 dvd-image and 2 cd-images:

openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso
openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso
openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso

Being paranoid, I created iso-files from the burnt DVD-R and the two burnt CD-R to verify integrity.

The iso-file of the DVD-R was identical to the downloaded image. Both iso-files created from the CD-R were different in size.

The original size of openSUSE-11.3-KDE4-LiveCD-i686.iso is 719.323.136 Bytes.

I only got 718.938.112 Bytes when recreating an ISO-file from my CD-R.

The CD-R is from Sony. When the length of my ISO-file doesn't correspond to the downloaded one, the checksum file verification doesn't work.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Can't Choose File Order On CD Burning?

Mar 18, 2010

I want to do is this: choose the order (other than alphabetical) of the files that I burn to a disc.Brasero doesn't allow it K3b doesn't allow it GnomeBaker doesn't allow it Unless I am missing something, I can't figure out any way other than renaming all my files with a single number and/or letter at the beginning of a file name to choose the order of files. This blows my mind it seems like the most "no duh" feature that everyone would need in any Cd burning program. if I am stupid or if the software developers are stupid. (because I really can't see any other options) This is seriously so important (to me), that I will abandon Linux and go back to Windows if I can't do it.

Ubuntu :: Tweaking Nautilus' File Sorting Order?

Dec 31, 2010

I've recently switched from Windows to Ubuntu and have a question regarding tweaking the character order Nautilus uses for alphabetical sorting. In my music/graphics/etc folder hierarchies, I have used a hyphen at the start as a 'hack' to 'sticky' some folders above the rest for quicker access. This worked fine in Windows, but Nautilus ignores a hyphen in it's sorting calculations. Is there anyway, simple or complex to replicate this behaviour in Nautilus?

Software :: How To Control File Order In Rsync

Mar 30, 2011

I am looking for a way to control the order in which files (or more specifically, certain subtrees) are updated for a very large rsync update done daily. There is a finite time frame and finite bandwidth to do these updates, and they usually do NOT complete. I want to control the order so that more important files are copied earlier.

What I have been doing is breaking up the rsync runs into a few steps where the first step is a very limited set of subtrees using --include and/or --exclude, and each step thereafter is increasing the amount, until the last step is the whole tree to be updated. This is not working because the time it takes to transfer the file list is large (varying from 10 minutes to 40 minutes depending on step). I really need to get this back down to doing a single rsync run to reduce that wasted time.

I cannot ultimately split things because there are a lot of hardlinks that need to be retained (or else the destination space and bandwidth would be exceeded).

I was looking at rsync's batch mode. My thought was if I could get a list of what needs to be updated, I could then sort that list and do just 1 more rsync run to do the updates in the order I want. But it turns out the batch mode file is in some cryptic binary format. I really have no idea if that could have worked.

The order selection is not simply based on the names in the top directory, so I cannot simply just list those in the preferred order on the command line (otherwise, yes, that would control the order). If I do list directory names from various depths, that list gets flattened into the destination directory, which would not work to replicate the whole tree exactly.
