I tried installing bacula and i really had no idea what i was doing and i believe it failed. I ran sudo apt-get install bacula. Anyway, I tried removing it using sudo apt-get remove bacula but now whenever i run sudo apt-get install for anything, the app will install but then show all these errors from bacula. how do i get rid of it?
How to install using yum? Because when I tried this: yum install gcc gmake make libcpp libgcc libstdc++ gcc4 gcc4-c++ gcc4-gfortran subversion ruby ncurses-devel -y Subversion did not install, I tried this:
This is the error I get when removing gnome-session: alex@alex:~$ sudo apt-get remove gnome-session Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... tl;dr - sudo make -> operation not permitted, sudo chown -R 777 * -> operation not permitted on some of the files
I am trying to install a library. Sudo make is getting permission denied on file 1, while using regular make I am getting permission denied on file 2. I have noticed some of the directories in the library are under nobody:nogroup. I tried chown and sudo chown, both didn't work. Sudo chown got permission errors, while chown didn't change ALL the files. (operation not permitted once again) Tried sudo su, and working from there, that also did not work. (permission once again). Using lsattr returned "lsattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device While reading flags on".

I have a new computer with two 500 gb hard drives which I use in raid 0. I tried to install Ubuntu 9.10 off the live cd but it was unable to partition the raid and kept failing. I was then told top use the alternate cd. I use that and my raid is detected, partitioned, and the system is installed. However now I cannot install a boot loader as I get continuous errors. Right now I am left with no ideas with what to do. I have Ubuntu installed to my hard drives just no way of accessing it.
I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 i386 on Asus EeePC S101 (1GB RAM, 32GB SSD). On the first boot of the freshly installed system I get 2 error popups several seconds after the screen goes into black graphical mode:popup 1:
Code: Could not update ICEauthority file /var/lib/gdm/.ICEauthority After I close that popup, I immediately get another:
I just activated backports and partners and I got it.
I just bought a newish asus x83vm-x2 and am dual-booting seven and lucid lynx. On my last two computers I had migrated completely to Ubuntu, but windows 7 has a few compelling features...Anyways- I'm having issues upgrading the kernel on my fresh install of ubuntu (not that it matters, but I installed via jump drive). In update manager, the kernel upgrades are grayed out.
In synaptic, I get these (current kernel version is 126.96.36.199.22 btw)-
Code: linux-generic: Depends: linux-image-generic (=188.8.131.52.25) but 184.108.40.206.22 is to be installed linux-image-generic:[code]....
It appears as thought "linux-image-2.6.32-24-generic" is not in the repository... but if that were the case, you'd think that my machine would just auto-update to an earlier version. IDK- I'm confuddled.
Was I the only one having failure issues trying to install any Debian ISO Yesterday?I got big red screens about corrupt files all while trying to install Wheezy and Jessie. All with ISO versions downloaded and burned yesterday, net install. Disc and DVD.Mint and later Fedora installed perfectly well, but I wanted Debian.
In process of installing gnome have hit an error wall from dpkg too many errors. Tried increasing the allowed errors in dpkg.cfg to 150 and still get the errors. The errors now come up on any apt-get install.
ADDED: sent the output to file and the errors start with python2.5-minimal(2,5,43).
I have just loaded the FC9 onto a HP/Compaq D510 2.8Ghz/Intel graphic card. Everything when as expected during the install but on login I get the following set of errors. The follow Panels encounters a problem.
New to Linux and am wanting to install ubuntu 9.10 or 10.04 on a single separate 80gb drive. I have Windows installed on 2 80gb drives in Raid0 (nvidia controller) .I have installed 9.10 but Win7 will not load from the bootloader : gives me the error invalid signature. I've looked around and tried a few things to get it to load with no success.. is the Raid0 the issue?
If I try to install 10.04 it will hang and eventually errors out, I believe on the raid drive because it comes up with dev/mapper/nvidia_hhfbdccf1..
I am trying to install the libncurses5-dev package via sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev and it does this
Code: (Reading database ... dpkg: warning: files list file for package `libncurses5-dev' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed. (Reading database ... 246291 files and directories currently installed.) Preparing to replace libncurses5-dev 5.7+20090803-2ubuntu3 (using .../libncurses5-dev_5.7+20090803-2ubuntu3_amd64.deb) .
I downloaded the latest version of Tellico as a .deb file directly from the Tellico website, since the version available in the repositories no longer works with Amazon. This new version has been available at the web site since November, but has yet to be updated on the Ubuntu sites.Anyway,I tried to install it by double-clicking it in Nautilus. That brought up Package Manager which says that it cannot be installed - "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable". Is there anyway to force either Package Manager or aptitude ot dpkg to install the package along with any dependencies that are required?
I am a rookie. Yesterday, I intended to install a dictionary with the command sudo apt-get install dict-xdict, but it turned out to fail with the error. Then, I quited with Ctrl+ c, and I did not care much till today because when I want install something else today, the error keeps coming out. Therefore, I think I would better remove dict-xdict first, so I use sudo apt-get remove dict-xdict, but the error still appears:
I have already tries sudo apt-get -f install dict-xdict and it doesn't work out. I am hoping to install some other applications now, but I have not idea what I could do to fix this problem or just circumvent it
I am accessing my subversion repository from svn+ssh:// I set up a new group called for the repository, and then I added two users to this group, harry and sally. Here is the problem. harry logs in and commits a file After commit a ton of the files have been saved by harry, and have the new owner and group:
group: harry owner: harry
sally no longer has access to the repository! Is there any way to prevent the group from changing when harry commits a file? I tried just writing a file with VIM after logging in via ssh with one of the users, and this does NOT change the group. subversion is doing something special that changes the permissions.
I just installed 10.04 today and i love it I'm trying to install some software tried devede but i didn't like it only text menu's and nothing more.I also found tovid software looks really cool and i was wanting to try it i tried to install the debs but no go the tovid website say's to install from subversion it also says something about installing ffmpeg from subversion. So what is subversion and how do i install from it?
I have just installed the newest version of ubuntu (10.10 the maverick meerkat) and im struggling installing any programs, wine and vlc arnt appearing on synaptic package manager and anything i try to do in either the command promt or ubuntu software centre doesnt work either. On the command promt when i follow the commands as seen on various tutourials the command promt comes back with an error. VLC example given below.
explain the difference between these two commands. I'm currently reading about changing your mac address and both of these commands show up a lot. They sound like the same thing to me. Is one better than the other, or do you need to use both to change your mac address?
Code: sudo ifconfig eth0 down sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop
I use subversion to check out some small projects and small games from time to time. Sometimes I see the 'U' which means upgrading coming in different places or even coming twice 'UU' . Now I always wondered if there is some specific reason why it comes out that. Here's an example of the check-out done from a game called dawn-rpg. As the name suggests its a role-playing game . dawn-rpg.sourceforge.net Anyway here's the checkout :-
Now see that all the deviations of U from third line as to how they appear ? Put simply 'A' is for addition of new files and 'U' is for upgrading/new version of somefile but do not undertand why it behaves/d that way. I have seen this in some others svn also.
