Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To Complete 10.04 Install 'Permission Denied'
May 30, 2010
I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an Aspire laptop with Windows XP. I downloaded 10.04 and burned an ISO image. I boot Windows and open the ISO disk. I open the first choice which is to try Ubuntu prior to a complete installation. The installation starts and proceeds for a few minutes. Then it stops and displays a message 'Permission Denied' and a suggestion to check the installation log. The last few lines are:
Running newaliasespostalias: fatal: open database /etc/aliases.db: Permission deniedin my /etc I do not have a aliases.db only an aliases.I cp aliases aliases.db but when I try and install post fix again it gives me the same error and aliases.db goes away.
Decided to upgrade my 8.04 server to 10.04 today. Everything went smooth when I tried to install in vmware. When I tried to install it on my real machine the installation hangs at 74% Storing Language...
I've checked the disk and I tried different ways to install (different language, both keyboard and system). The first two attempts the installer just turns off and the computer reboots. This third time it just hangs. how to debug and solve this problem?
It's the x86_64 version. I'm using the standard options all the time including LVM on whole disk.
I was able to get the a2ensite command to enable a virtual site because it says "Site xxxxx.com already enabled" when I run the command. My problem now is that even though a site is enabled it says this: Code: /etc/init.d/apache2 restart * Restarting web server apache2

I am unable to start my xserver, using the startx command that I have been using for the past 5 years. It goes to the blue loading screen with the x for a cursor, hangs there for about a min or so then goes back to the command screen. I get an error:
giving up. xinit: Permission denied (errno 13): unable to connect to xserver waiting for xserver to shut down xinit: Server error.I have tried logging on as root and trying startx again. Same error.
I have a cgi script that tries to get the IP address of a domain. the Domain is defined in Bind, yet it can not resolve it. I put the domain in the host file and it then gives a Error: unable to create socket - Permission denied
I figure I have to do some code changes to the script but here I would like an explaination as to the error I am getting.
when I try to su, with the right password I know it is because I have reset it with a sudo, it says su: incorrect password. Looking at /var/log/messages I see su: Unable to open admin password file: Permission denied. This must mean that the file has incorrect permissions and or owner/group. I am wondering if anyone knew where the file was located and the correct permissions/owner/group.
I installed the Eclipse IDE using Ubuntu packages. (Version 3.5.1. Package name:eclipse).A few days back, version 3.5.2 was released. I would like to update, so I added the following websites to the list of available ones:
I then tried with Check for Updates. While on my Mac installation this results in an update to 3.5.2, on Ubuntu the program says there is nothing to update. If I try to install manually, choosing Install New Software and the then selecting the Eclipse Platform 3.5.2, I get the following error:
Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency. Software being installed: Eclipse Platform 3.5.2.M20100211-1343 (org.eclipse.platform.ide 3.5.2.M20100211-1343) Software currently installed: Eclipse Platform 3.5.1 (Eclipse Platform 3.5.1) Only one of the following can be installed at once:
it is possible to update the packaged verison of Eclipse or if I should install the binary from the website?
Code: # traceroute -I 126.96.36.199 Note: the -i and -I options were exchangedfor compability with LBL traceroute Use -I for ICMP, and -i <ifname> to specify the interface name unable to create ICMP send socket: Permission denied Note that the command was done as root. This worked in 11.3.
And yes, it works without the "-I". But it should work with the "-I". One shouldn't have to boot into Windows, just to run "tracert" there.
I'm new to Linux, so I decided to try using Wubi to get started. THe problem is, when it finished installing 10.04, I got this message: OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso' Is there any way around this? It might just be that overly restrictive thing called Vista (which I have the bad luck to be using). I was considering getting a USB drive for Ubuntu anyway..
I recently got interested with with OS.. So I downloaded wubi in Ubuntu website. I opted for the Ubuntu Netbook Edition as am using a lappy. However, halfway through finishing download I got an error. The log shows:
I'm trying to install the Aurora engine for themes on Ubuntu 9, and I'm pretty new at all this... so sorry if this error message is a little long... it goes through the installation, then it gives me an error message.
I'm trying to install Ubuntu 9.10 on my Windows Vista Home Premium machine. My specs far exceed the requirements to install, so I know there's no problem there. On installation I receive an error somewhat through that says something like:Quote:An error occured:Permission deniedFor more information, please see the log file:C:UsersUsernameAppDataLocalTempwubi-9.10ubuntu1-rev160.logSo.... I go to that file, and the last line in it is:Quote:OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\ubuntu\install\ubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso'I did run Wubi Installer as an Administrator, and unblocked it giving it full privileges. It's really annoying because my download speed is 80kb/s so it takes about 3 hours to download. During that 3 hours I can't use my internet so I have to wait, and wait, and wait, and then boom.error. And wubi can't pick up where it left off, you have to uninstall to reinstall, which sucks tremendously.
Appear sometimes ago a message: E: Opening /etc/apt/sources.list - ifstream::ifstream (13: Permission denied) I'm trying update my computers but I don't get.. Please.. All my docs, movies and pictures are in this PC... What Can I Do to fix?
I'm trying to install Amanda 3.2 on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) using Ubuntu 10.04 deb package. The installation was successful using the dpkg command. The problem crops up when configuring such amanda. When creating a user amandabackup using passwd amandabackup and then enter in it through su - amandabackup a permission denied problem comes up. When enter amserverconfig Dailyset 1 etc etc the server response with : amservingconfig: critical (fatal): Cannot create debug file "/var/log/amanda/server/amserverconfig.2010120307947.debug": Permission denied and continues The permissions are set to rw 1 amandabackup backup. I can't understand why it's telling me permission denied each time.
I cant install Ubuntu 11.04 , on my Emachines laptop. On my Windows 7, When I boot up my USB/CD/card, it says: Ubuntu failed to mount dev/loop0 , something like that everytime, no matter what I do. And when I try wubi it says permission denied, .log filed saved. I've also mounted it using clonedrive, nothing works.
I have Ubuntu10.10 in my HP-laptop. I am trying to install ANSYS. There is an install file in setup. When I try to give install in terminal, being in the same directory it says, command not found. I tried ./INSTALL, it says "bash: ./INSTALL: Permission denied". I also tried from my home folder with full path for the install file, as the readme file says, "To install, enter the full path to the installation program on the media or to the downloaded installation files". I don't know what to do. I have these setup file in my external hard drive.
I wanted to install Matlab2011 in fedora15 and i receive this following: Preparing installation files Installing ./install: line 589: /tmp/mathworks_2110/java/jre/glnxa64/jre/bin/java: Permission denied Finished. I think the problem was Java, but I updated java and still is not working.
