Ubuntu Installation :: DEVED Error 1 "corrupted Filesystem Tarfile - Corrupted Package Archive"

Jan 24, 2010

I'm COMPLETELY new to linux. I"m running Ubuntu 9.10 and TRYING to install Devede. I have tried the Terminal, Synaptic Manger, and the Add/Remove and still keep getting this same error. I'm running a regular 32 bit Pentium 3 process to test if I like Linux or not. this is what it says: E: /var/cache/apt/archives/libavcodec-extra-52_4%3a0.5+svn20090706-2ubuntu3_i386.deb: corrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archive this is not a DUAL boot computer either.

I'm trying to install a package (mythTV backend - but im sure the package is not at fault) and I keep getting this errorcorrupted filesystem tarfile - corrupted package archiveNew build - ubuntu lucid 32bitI think it might be a hardware fault memory/hardrive/motherboard or somthing to do with an error in /home/ partition filesystem. To be honest im not sure and its driving me mentalWould consider anyones input on possible causes of a Corrupted filesystem. Tried complete deleting (including cache) and reinstalling the package.force fskchk , restarted = nothing.Error checked the harddrive = nothingfrustrated as this is only the latest error in a series of problems ive been having with ubuntu on this build.

Ubuntu :: Can't Boot Anymore, Filesystem Seems Corrupted?

Jan 2, 2011

I've searched the internet all over, but somehow I didn't find a solution (I REALLY hope there is one :/). Of course I might have missed something, I found a lot of similar, but not quite identical problems.Today, when I tried to start up my system I was quite shocked, as my Ubuntu 10.10 didn't boot. The error I got was "No init found. Try passing init=bootarg".I didn't have any problems booting Windows XP, which I had installed alongside Ubuntu, so I burned a Live CD and tried to find out what was the matter.

As it appears, my Linux partition (/dev/sda5) is broken. I can't access it via Nautilus, as I always get a "A job is pending on /dev/sda5" error. Mounting it via terminal doesn't seem to work either. When trying to check the filesystem, either in Disk Utility or in GParted, I instantly get an error that the "device is busy" and (again) that "a job is pending".I tried to set a boot flag on /dev/sda5 (it wasn't there before), but this didn't help neither with accessing the partition from the Live CD norI tried to run the boot info script I found somewhere in a forum post, but it is just hanging itself up as soon as it starts checking /dev/sda5.

And "sudo mke2fs -n /dev/sda5" just gives me a "/dev/sda5 is apparently in use by the system" error.By the way I did all these steps just byollowing advices in other threads, so I do not necessarily understand what I did there.e .. is there a way I can get my files back? I would really, really hate having lost all that since my last backup is 3-4 months old (yeah, yeah, I know) and I have some quite rtant data on that filesystem. While there seems to be a big problem in that NOTHING seems to be working, GParted still recognizes the partition and how much of the disk space is in use .. so not everything can be lost - or am I wrong?

Software :: Filesystem Corruption - Ext3-fs Group Descriptor Corrupted - No Inittab

Mar 3, 2011

When I rebooted my system (RHEL 5.3 x86_64), I got the following error when it was booting up:

Code:

Full screenshot of the bootup error messages here: previous bootup error

So to try and fix this, I booted from the OS disk and did a linux rescue.

Here's some of the results of the commands I did:

Code:

Here's a screenshot of the output from fsck after it's done, notice it says 0 bad blocks but the system was modified:fsck results

I then reboot but now I get the errors:

Code:

Full screenshot of the startup errors I get now here: current bootup error

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Was the fsck I did initially the correct thing to do to fix that initial group descriptor error or did I make things worse?

Fedora Installation :: The "preupgrade" Package Seems To Have Corrupted Encrypted Drive

May 9, 2009

I wanted to upgrade my Fedora 9 laptop to Fedora 10. I executed this:

Code:

yum -y install preupgrade
preupgrade

It downloaded 1.1G of RPMs and asked me to reboot. Now when I boot, I am prompted for my pass phrase to unencrypt my /home partition on SDA4, but it can't be mounted. Same when I boot from a CD. Is there anything I can do to fix my encrypted drive? Is there a chance I'm just missing a driver? Has anyone else upgraded with preupgrade and an encrypted drive?

Debian Configuration :: Dbus Package Is Corrupted Or Not Complete?

May 12, 2010

I had my laptop turned on. The battery turned out low and my pc shut down (not in the correct way obviously)! Plus: I was running apt-get upgrade but it should have done before shutting down. Now, I restarted my pc and under nm-applet I see: "wireless network: device not ready" and at login I get the message: "Network configurations failed. org.freedesktop.dbus.error.spawn.PermissionsInvalid: the permission of the setuid helper is not correct" and that I could not be able to connect via bluetooth (but actuallyu I can't use wireless!)! What to do guys? I use debian squeeze. I read from someone using kubuntu that he solved the problem reinstalling all the packages with "dbus" in their name. But I don't know if my ethernet will work yet!

Update: if I run dpkg-reconfigure dbus, it tells me that dbus package is corrupted or not complete: could be the issue?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 Wubi Upgrade Seems To Have Corrupted Bash / Error "invalid Magic Number"?

Jan 4, 2011

I tried the steps usually offered (modifying the grub.cfg file, replacing the wubildr files), it still wouldn't boot.

I booted in with the LiveCD to try to chroot into the environment and try running 'update-grub'. However, whenever I tried to chroot, it said it could not execute /bin/bash!

Trying to modify the grub commands manually (which originally gave the error: you need to load the kernal first), in the end said "invalid magic number"

There are some configuration things set in this installation I would like to not lose. Is it hopeless?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Corrupted Xfs Partition?

May 4, 2010

Being an Ubuntu enthousiast (both professionally as well as at home), I upgraded my home server from 9.10 to 10.04 yesterday. It runs kvm with only 1 vm. Host and vm we're both ubuntu 9.10 64bit. I upgraded both to 10.04. So far so good. Also did reboots to load the new kernel image.

For data storage I have a large (6,35TB) XFS partition. This partition is exported to the vm as a block device (vdb). This morning I noticed the vm has crashed. The XFS partition (mounted as /home) was shut down. Is this just bad luck? Or is it 10.04?

Code:
May 4 08:00:18 fileplanet kernel: [68558.681584] ffff8800241c8000: 58 41 47 46 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 02 0f ff ff ff XAGF............

[Code]....

I tried booting with an older (2.6.31) kernel, but didn't help. Can I safely run xfs_repair without causing any more damage?

All disks in this system are attached to an Areca hardware raid controller configured in Raid5 and has been operating for months now without any problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.4 - Corrupted Image Of Loading Screen

Apr 30, 2010

I have been trying to get the live image of 10.4 to work on my machine, however I keep running into video corruption issues. When I try to run the live image, from a CD or USB stick, it shows the loading screen fine and the bars underneath the logo move and look fine. Then it seems as though it has loaded and goes to desktop, but it only shows a corrupted image of the loading screen. After a few seconds there seems to be some sort of intro sound playing, however it is very scratchy/corrupted. I'm not sure what the issue is and I have tried 32 and 64 bit versions.

I have also tried installing via Wubi and get the same results. I'm really at a loss of how to correct the problem. Not sure if it is a video driver issue, or some other issue. I also can't seem to find a safe graphics mode to try and work around the problem.

How to recover these files? Is there a way by which Ubuntu automatically scans and repairs the system files.

Ubuntu Installation :: Kernel Messages And Display Becomes Corrupted

Feb 1, 2011

The Ubuntu 8.04 is working flawlessly. Any other version I get several problems and depending on the mood of the system I get a vertical running display ( not readable ) or a left horizontal displaced screen (readable) ...

I tried more tan several CDs ranging from 9.01 to 10.10 both Ubuntu or Xubuntu. What is the plainest (simpler ) VGA mode in order to install it? I have tried vga=normal and even VGA =3 with no success. With the latest Ubuntu 10.10 I get another problem it simply does not recognize the HDD / SSD. I have traced the SSD problem with the sata_sis module in kernel 2.6.35 and up... Other distros have the same problem ...

Ubuntu Networking :: Connection Gets Corrupted After A Certain Software Installation

Jun 26, 2011

Ubuntu 11.04 32bit TP-Link TL-WN821N which is listed HERE as supported using the ar9170usb driver. So I've done 4 fresh reinstalls and each time after a specific step following THIS guide my Wireless connection gets corrupted and does not want to work. The last time I did all the changes in small steps so I can catch the offending one and so after I've executed the code below and restarted my system the wifi went haywire:

Quote:
cd ~
sudo apt-get install dkms
wget http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/at...x86.x86_64.run
sudo sh ati-driver-installer-11-5-x86.x86_64.run --buildpkg Ubuntu/natty
sudo dpkg -i *.deb
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo aticonfig -f --initial --adapter=all
sudo reboot

Up until that point everything was working just fine and I was remotely managing my desktop using a Windows VNC Viewer and Ubuntu Remote Desktop. So could it be that this dkms (whatever that is) is causing the problems? Do I even need to install it for all the other software to work as it is not mentioned in any other bitcoin mining guides? I would like to stress out that my connection is configured properly and I am 100% certain of that - as I said it is working like a charm up until the point of executing the commands above and restarting.

Any suggestions as the last 3 days have been a nightmare trying to figure out what's wrong after each fresh installation. P.S - The guide says to execute sudo aptitude install dkms but I guess the aptitude package is not installed so I ran sudo apt-get install dkms instead. If that makes any difference?

Ubuntu Installation :: Openoffice Menu Text Corrupted Plus Freezes

Jun 9, 2010

I have recently done a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04. Since then I have had no end of trouble with Openoffice 3.2.

When I open any office app, the text on the menus is corrupted and has lines going through it. I've included some screenshot to show what I mean.

Also, sometimes when I open an Excel spreadsheet my entire system crawls to a standstill and it can take anything up to 10 minutes for it to respond again. Not even the mouse cursor will move. If I reboot the PC and open the same document it will sometimes be just fine. It is very random.

So far I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling openoffice.org from apt-get, but this hasn't fixed the problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 (Netbook Edition) - Master Boot Record Corrupted

Jun 7, 2010

I have a Windows XP/Windows 7 dual boot system. My problem: [URL]. I follow these instructions to the letter, the live "CD" works fine - using a USB stick, I do not have a DVD drive, in- or external -. When I try to install Ubuntu from the live system, it corrupts my master boot record, I get the Error: No Such Device #####################. After I fixed this I tried to install Ubuntu under windows, using the same usb's wubi installer. The install completes, I reboot, and after selecting Ubuntu in my boot menu, I get that likewise well known error with wubildr.mbr [URL]

Rebuilding the USB stick doesn't make any difference, it behaves the same way. The wubi installer has the very annoying habit of downloading the iso during the installation procedure every time, I don't know why I can't just select the iso downloaded in the first step of the above link. This way I cannot check any md5 because I have no idea where it downloads the iso. What should I do to get Ubuntu working? Reinstalling any of my Windows systems is not an option, it is every time like gambling, I am using the same installation files, but sometimes the result is just not the same.

Ubuntu Installation :: Netbook Crashed / Windows XP System Files Corrupted?

Sep 1, 2011

My HP Netbook crashed. The Windows XP system files corrupted and Windows absolutely will not run. I planned on using Ubuntu to recover it, and then install Ubuntu permanently to save it in the future. Before you ask, every other utility has failed on me. UBCD included, which did nothing but provide me with errors upon errors just trying to run it.

The netbook has no CD drive. The only internet around is a wireless signal... my netbook has a broadcom wireless card that is never recognized. I'm using someone elses working laptop to connect online and get things I need, make boot devices, research for help, etc. This laptop has barely any hard drive space. Currently it has 1 gb remaining for doing anything.I have three flash memory devices:2 gb SD card. My netbook refuses to recognize it as a boot device.2 gb flash stick (that's actually an mp3 player). My netbook refuses to recognize it as a boot device.512 mb flash stick. This DOES work as a boot device.

So far my 512 mb flash stick has run Damn Small Linux and Ubuntu Minimal on my netbook. Of course, both are useless because the netbook cannot access internet, nor does either OS recognize my wireless card. This flash stick is, obviously, too small for a regular Ubuntu installation or any other Linux distribution that can help (as far as I know).

So, in order for this to work, I have to be able to do one of the following:

Install Ubuntu from a different OS, like Damn Small Linux or something small enough to boot on my 512 mb stick. Ubuntu can be put on one of the other, larger devices, maybe to be accessed for installation. No idea how to do this, let alone safely.

Install Ubuntu Minimal OFFLINE. This question was asked multiple times on these forums and none were answered. Is there a way to run minimal, and use offline sources for the install?

Get the normal Ubuntu installer under 500 mb. Its overwhelmingly frustrating that I'm just barely unable to do this. I've read of Ubuntu Customization Kit, which ended up being lots of useless files and reams of gobbldegook. I've heard Ubuntu is packed with additional, nonrequisite software which makes it so large. Why can't there be a halfway version between normal and minimal?? Not everyone has internet and not everyone has a CD drive or large USB stick! Is there a way this can be accomplished? Does this version exist?

I have limited time and resources. Before you ask, no, I cannot afford a larger USB stick. I'm pinching pennies right now and there's nowhere near here that sells them anyway.
