Ubuntu :: Gnome Do Docky - Zsnes Icon Blank

Aug 22, 2010

I'm currently on Ubuntu 10.04, and I just have one small issue that is bugging me. Every time I open up zsnes just to play some games, a blank icon appears for the application in the dock. I was just wondering if there is anyway for docky to use the zsnes icon instead of the blank one.On a side note I'm just curious to know how to fix blurry icons that appear on docky as well. I.E. Ubuntu :: Can't Remove Docky Anchor Icon?

Aug 28, 2010

I would like to remove the anchor icon from Docky. I found instructions to go into gconf-editor and set "apps/docky-2/docky/items/DockyItem/ShowDockyItem" to false. Only problem is, this item does not appear.

The only folders in apps/docky-2/docky/items/ are ColoredIconDockItem and WnckDockItem. Inside ColoredIconDockItem, there's a key called DockyItem set at value 193. I tried changing/deleting that and restarting Docky, but it keeps defaulting back. I also removed and reinstalled Docky, but I found the same thing. Does anyone know how I can find the right value to change?

Ubuntu :: Make Docky Use Different Icon Theme Then System

Jun 28, 2010

I have got my Ubuntu desktop looking exactly how I want it apart from one little thing. I would like Docky to use a different icon theme then the one I am using for gnome. See these are the icons I want to use on Gnome/Nautilus: But these are the icons I want for Docky: So what I want to end up with is this: I have had a look in gconf-editor to see if there are any settings to do this but there doesn't seem to be any, I even tried adding a stringvalue with "icon_theme" and putting in the theme I wanted to use but that didn't work. Is there anyway I can manual edit a Docky config file to tell it what icon theme to use?

I am using docky on Ubuntu. I want to have a launcher for intellij in my docky bar, but I have an issue. No matter which method for adding the launcher to the dock I use, the intellij icon specified in my .desktop won't display. Instead I get the lame spring board launcher icon. Once I launch intellij it creates another icon on docky. So now I have intellij's correct icon and the spring board launcher icon. Once I close intellij we are back to just the spring board again.Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?I shouldalso note that "idea" launches a shell script if that mattersDesktop file

Ubuntu :: Match Window To Customized Firefox Profile Icon In Docky?

Jun 30, 2011

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 desktop AMD-64 on an HP DV4-2000 laptop. I have Docky running on the left side, desktop disabled and wallpapers for my four desktops. I recently killed the bottom panel (yes, it's a poor-man's 11.04).

Those details, I don't think, will have any bearing on the problem at hand, but one never knows. So, I have three different Firefox profiles I run-- the default, which has all the plugins, a stripped-down one which I use for my daily reading (I follow a number of sites using the Morning Coffee plugin), and another stripped one for my local WordPress install.

My problem is this-- I have created three separate launchers on my Desktop, one for each firefox profile. They each have their own icons, and I have successfully imported them each into Docky.

By the way, if you have problems with getting a different icon to show in Docky, open up the launcher with a text editor such as gedit and make sure that both icon listings are pointing to the one you want to use. Example:

Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Type=Application

[Code]...

The first icon listing is what Docky uses, the second is what the Launcher file itself looks like. the problem-- When I click on the appropriate icon, I get an instance of Firefox under the correct profile. However, Docky throws the window under the generic Firefox icon, so if I pull up the dock, there might be three instances of firefox running under the firefox icon and nothing under the icons of the other two profile launchers.

I want to be able to click on the Wordpress profile icon and get the Wordpress window that is already open (instead of getting a warning that Firefox is already running... I know that).

I found this page which tells me how to fix a Chrome problem of similar nature, however, when I try to use the command xprop I get nothing. I left it running for fifteen minutes until I gave up and did a ^C to recover my terminal.

So, my problem, as I see it, is this-- I'm running Firefox in all three cases, which Docky correctly interprets. This isn't a java implementation where I can point at the correct Java attribute.

Ubuntu :: Can Use Docky Without Gnome?

Dec 22, 2010

I like to try different combinations of *buntu in the several partitions on my first drive. One combo I enjoy playing with is the Minimal CD with Openbox or some other small footprint window manager.I'd like to try Docky, but the need for compositing is a problem for me. I don't want to install Gnome, KDE, or XFCE, because I don't want all the stuff that comes with them. Can you tell me the packages I need to install to get Docky working? Are Compiz and Docky enough? Will Compiz serve as a standalone window manager and automatically start at logon?

Ubuntu :: Docky And Gnome Do UI Customization

Jul 22, 2010

This year in college I've had the liberty to be learning about Linux. This was mostly in the shell so a lot of GUI applications we didn't use. The fun part of this all is that once you know how to work in Bash. Linux isn't all so frightening and confusing anymore ! So I've decided to finally take the shot on switching from Windows to Ubuntu Desktop and I must say I'm quite amazed with the customization you can do in Ubuntu.I just installed Docky and I installed Gnome Do. Now it has come to my attention that Gnome Do can integrate with Docky however I do have a small question concerning the customization of the Dock bar. In Gnome Do I would really like to have the panel look from Docky and I was wondering if this is possible. To me it seems that it's only possible to use the 3D look which looks a lot like Mac OSx. I'm aiming for a bit of a Windows 7 interface however.

Ubuntu :: Gnome (and Docky) Weather-applet Dependant Of Internet Connection?

Jun 8, 2010

I had experienced a annoying feature relative to both the Gnome Weather-applet (the one linked to the clock) and the weather-desklet from Docky : With the same laptop (working under Lucid Lynx), they work perfectly fine when I am using them from work but never stop to update (in the case of the Docky desklet) or didn't show up (for the gnome weather-applet) when I am using them from home. In both case, I am using a WiFi connection and no proxy.

Has everyone else experimented such a problem ? If so, which parameters should I adjust to solve this trouble? PS : Wherever the place I am, I can access with a web-browser to the websites providing the weather forecast (iGoogle, weather.com and weather.underground).

Ubuntu :: Awn Makes Gnome Boot Into Gnome-icon-theme

I have avant-window-navigator in my startup appplications. This apparently causes gnome to use the Gnome icon theme on boot, instead of the Humanity theme I selected in Preferences->Appearance. I just have to go to Preferences-Appearance again to get the Humanity theme back to work (I don't even have to change any settings, just going there is enough.) When I remove awn from my startup applications, this problem doesn't occur.

Ubuntu :: Blank Background In Gnome - Cannot Do Anything In GUI?

Feb 4, 2011

I was changing a few options in Compiz-Fusion today. When I saved one of the options, the X Server restarted and then suddenly, I had no taskbars or anything. I could run F2 to get a GUI Run dialog box to come up, but I can't run any GUI programs. I try GEdit, Google-chrome but nothing comes up. There's no taskbar, no AWG Dock, nothing. Just my wallpaper and I can't do anything with it.

I'm kind of annoyed that one little change can cause the whole X Server to crash and not start up. I tried booting into "Recovery Mode" but Linux doesn't automatically detect my drivers in this mode so I can't boot up into it. I've tried rebooting and I still get the wallpaper.

In TTY1 terminal, is there anything I can do to revert these changes?

As in, can I:
- Revert the changes of Compiz by somehow reaching a Compiz GUI (even though I can't open any GUI windows in GNOME)?
- Uninstall Compiz? (I tried this and it said it supported gnome-desktop..I decided not to get rid of it, any ideas? If I uninstall Compiz, will it revert and restore all the changes Compiz made?)
- Uninstall and reinstall GNOME? (if so, how can I do this?)
- Access the Compiz config through the terminal so I can perhaps find the option I set and revert it?

This is pretty urgent because I can't use my machine at all, so any help would be really really I'm still able to use the Cube and switch between workspaces (CTRL+ALT+<left/right>) which leads me to believe Compiz is working. I can also open the GUI run dialog, but just no other windows. I think Compiz must have an error and I'll have to restore to Metacity to view windows again.. any ideas?

Ubuntu :: Error Icon In Gnome Panel From Apt Not Go Away

Sep 19, 2010

I have an error icon in my Gnome panel that will not go away. It appeared after running an apt-get command (explained below). Everything is working fine, but I cannot get the error icon to go away. Surely there must be some file somewhere storing the state that is making this reappear. The icon occurred after the following: I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. Yesterday, I decided to add the Medibuntu repository to my apt sources based on the instructions at [URL] -- i.e., I ran the command:
sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list [URL] && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update

In the terminal window, I saw the following error message amidst the other output:
W: GPG error: [URL] lucid Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2EBC26B60C5A2783
However, everything appears to have worked fine. The Medibuntu repository has been added to my sources, the keyring has been added, and I am able to install packages from the repository using apt-get without any errors.

Nonetheless, an error icon appeared in the Gnome panel after running the above command-line, and it will not go away. If I move the mouse pointer over it, the following text displays:
An error occurred, please run Package Manager from the right-click menu or apt-get in a terminal to see what is wrong. The error message was: 'Unknown Error: '<type 'exceptions.SystemError'>' (E:Opening configuration file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic - ifstream::ifstream (13:Permission denied))' This usually mean that your installed packages have unmet dependencies

The file /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/99synaptic it mentions is present and is readable (at least as root). Running Package Manager works fine with no errors. I've tried running
sudo apt-get check
and it runs fine without any errors. Likewise,
sudo apt-get update
and
sudo apt-get upgrade
run fine with no errors. But the error icon remains.
If I log out of Gnome and log back in, the error icon returns. If I reboot, the error icon returns as soon as I log back into a Gnome session. How to I get rid of this?
