I'm trying to install new themes on ubuntu but it tells me that GTK + themes 'ubuntulooks'is not installed and won't load up the themes as it should. I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.
I am trying to solve multiple issues with my 64x natty install using gnome3 ppa( official ppa from gnome3). I have this setup on two machines, one is a fresh install the other is a upgrade. They both have most of these issues. Here they are: 1) Nautilus will not launch from the favorites bar. It does launch from a shortcut on the desktop. It will not run from the terminal unless I am root. 2) Number lock is disabled at startup (enabled in my bios). I used to be able to enable after nattty had started, I no longer can, though num lock light is lit - number keypad does not work!
3) I have set gnome3 set to let nautilus draw the background and desktop, I get a white screen at boot until Nautilus is launched then I get a background and some desktop icons(no computer or network icons). If I plug in a usb drive the icon appears on my desktop, when I select it I loose the background and have to select it again.
4) Wireless randomly will drop the connection, have to reconnect, sometimes it will, sometimes I have to reboot. I have Fedora installed on a 2nd hard drive on the machine with a clean install and the only similarity is it displays the default desktop until I launch Nautilus, then my background and desktop are displayed with all of the icons. From there on out Fedora has none of these issues. I have used Ubuntu Gnome and XFCE as my only os since 6.0 and have never had this many problems. Both machines would not run the gdm because of Nvidia issues after the upgrade and clean install. I DO NOT want to give up on Ubuntu as I tell all my friends and family to use it.
I would like to install a new icon theme without effecting my currently selected panel theme, as i think the Ambience panel theme looks really nice and unified but im not too keen on the Ubuntu-Mono icons. Is this easily possible, without going into my icon folders and replacing all the instances of one style for another? Are there any applications for gnome icon theming like OS X's Candybar?Im sure others must desire to change only the icons and perhaps it is really easy and this is why i couldnt dig anythin up on google, that or im a useless googler.
Since of late "Appearance preference" behaves awkwardly . Normaly It is supposed to show themes in /usr/share/themes right? but now it shows themes only in ~/.themes folder. I don't know what affected the change. how do I configure it as to show themes in /usr/share/themes/,?
Also whatever theme I use , Controls would stay same(Classic controls). They wouldn't be update to those of the Theme used.
I have a little bit problem ,and I want to ask you guys, if there are people who experience this thing like me, and how to get this right back. I have install gnome3 extension , the side bar, the alt-tab and some other stuffs via webupd8,
and just now, I was updating and upgrading my system via terminal. I sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and install , update everything, when I restart my computer, everything was gone back to normal, as in the gnome-shell interface, and there are no extension.
What should I do to get it back? do I need to follow the tutorial in webupd8 again? and , is there anyone out there, experience the same thing like me?
I have installed Gnome3 from gnome3-team PPA. Now the desktop has both gtk-2 as well as gtk-3 applications. I have observed that gtk-2 applications use a different theme while gtk-3 applications use a different one. Using gnome-tweak-tool, I'm able to change theme for gtk-3 applications, but I don't seem to be able to find a way to change the theme of gtk-2 applications.
I installed gnome-shell from the respective PPA on my 11.04 ubuntu installation and I have problems running this combination smoothly! Sometimes when I log in I get Metacity windows and no Gnome session, sometimes I get the correct Gnome3 session...I guess that somehow the packages I have installed on my system got mixed up.Anyway: when I try to "sudo apt-get install gnome3-session" I get the following error:Quote:
The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome3-session : Depends: gnome-session-bin (< 2.33) but 3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build2 is to be installed Depends: gnome-session-common (= 2.32.1-0ubuntu20) but 3.0.1-0ubuntu1~build2 is to be installed
i installed ubuntu 11.04 on my presario cq40-115au but it does not load the default gui (unity). i only see a blue background and an icon of my other partition on desktop. even alt+F2 does not pop the "run application" windows. anyone had the same issue? especially with radeon hd3200?
I've been fiddling with gnome3 quite a bit, several different variants, and something I've yet to find a solution for is a way to "inhibit" the screensaver and/or sleep features if watching a movie or such.In gnome2 I'd always just add 'inhibit-applet' to the panel, but I've so far found no substitute in gnome3.
I'm getting the occasional full-screen black flicker on my laptop, it's an Asus G73JW with an nVidia 460M card, running the restricted drivers. I've installed Gnome3, and so far like it more than Unity, but the flickering needs to stop
I've also noticed that some animations aren't as smooth as they should be, like when I hit the top-left corner to bring up the dock it studders just a wee bit.
I reverted back from Gnome3 to Unity using ppa-purge, but now I have 2 annoying issues: The launcher reverts back to its default after login/logout. Any extra items I "Keep in launcher" are gone. The clock is stuck in 12h mode and it doesn't take any new settings. 24h clock, showing seconds etc. all fail.
I have 2 different systems affected, one 64-bit and one 32-bit (pae kernel).
So I glossed over the fact that installing Gnome3 from the PPA would break Unity for some reason, and now it's broken, and I can't even check it out. Is there a way to recover it and/or remove Gnome3, or is it a case of being out of luck unless I do a full reinstall?
Installing gnome3 on 11.04 kills unity and even gnome2. I heard installing gnome3 from source solves the problem, any one tried that? I want gnome3 to be alone, if I change its wallpaper I don't want gnome2 or unity wallpaper to be changed.
