Ubuntu :: Evolution Email - Sent Messages Disappear?
Jan 1, 2011
My wife uses Evolution for emailing. I have just set up an new email account for her and the strangest thing is happening. When she sends mail, a copy was going to the old Sent folder for her old account. Fine. So I tried Edit->Preferences->Mail Accounts->Edit->Defaults and pointed the sent mail to the Sent folder in the new account. Now she sends a mail and there is no copy going anywhere! It is not being saved in the old Sent folder or the new.Compaq Presario 610, Maverick 10.04.
My Evolution email client is able to send only smal messages. As soon as the email message is more than approx. 20 lines, sending is blocked. The status line displays "Sending message (0% complete)" for a few minutes and then it displays "Error while sending message." Receiving of email messages works fine.
I'm trying to effectively use EVOLUTION for email but am finding it frustrating. I created a folder to house a specific group of messages. For each message, I went to the "Message" tab and clicked on "move to folder." The folder heading on the top left indicates that there are 30 messages in that folder, BUT NO MESSAGES ARE APPEARING.
I use 'quoted' style for reply emails. I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .
Ubuntu 10.04 - when I logout I get screenful (at least) of messages all with the same format. They disappear too quickly to see what they're about. I've looked at the logs but can't see anything like what I see on the screen. Is there any way I can find them?
I had configured the evolution to send/recive email. After it had been configured, it could receive emails. Suddendly it can't fetch email anymore. In the inbox of evolution, there were about 200 emails. There are maybe 5K emails in the server, I guessed. I'm not sure whether it's the problem that there's one email in the server too big, so the evolution can not fetch it. The error of evolution is: error while fetching email. Evolution version: Evolution 2.28.0. OS version: Linux xxx22.214.171.124-70.fc12.i686.PAE #1 SMP Wed Mar 3 04:57:21 UTC 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I'm sure my network is fine, I use pop3 to receive email.

Amongst many other annoyances and problems with my setup, the most major one is as follows:I use evolution on my home computer to manage my email...when i was at my friends house today, i logged in to my mail via godaddys webmail service....after checking my mail and returning home, i notices that some of my new messages that i viewed on the webmail were showing as they should (unread) in evolution...however, a few of the messages were completely absent...i then returned to my account through webmail and sifted through all the emails that were in my inbox(all unread as I havent used the service much as i have always had my computer with me)...i noticed more than a few messages that were there that i didnt receive in my evolution inbox....is that a problem with my email provider through godaddy, or a problem with evolution?evolution often locks up on me and crashes, so i am thinking it might be something to do with it....thinking about switching to thunderbird and hoping for better results, but i am so used to evolution now
I always use ubuntu and have lots of important files in there..What happened before?I was working on the comp...pop messages were getting downloaded on evolution mail...pidgin was running...google chrome was running..My version: 9.10Found this somewhere:https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Grub2https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu...uestion/107653https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...4?comments=allWhen i select ubuntu from dual boot screen..It dosen't do the usual thing of asking me some options second one would be recovery mode..It takes me to some Grub loader beta4 (don't remember name)I get to type something as..sh:grub> (type here)something like that.
I just synchronized my hotmail account with evolution and it works flawlessly, however every time I click send-receive it stars to download mail by mail (more than 10,000, so it takes a while) and it won't check if I got new messages until it is done. The first time it happened I thought it was a normal thing, and that evo won't scan ever again from my hotmail account. Does anyone know how to stop doing that?
I have another brief question, I would like to know if there's a way that when I read a message on evolution it will also mark as read the same message on my hotmail account.
I had been using Evolution with no issues though until I installed Ubuntu 10.04 after which I could no longer send outgoing messages. I use a hotmail live account with Evolution. I have also just installed Evolution 2.30 from 2.28 to see if that would solve the issue, but it did not.
I'd like to have a notification icon popup when a new email message comes in. I find that I need to keep the Evolution window open to see the popup notifier, which kinda defeats the purpose of being notified when you've already opened the program and can see the message right there.
It worked for almost a year with no problems. I suspect a recent update changed something.
Hotmail is my mail service. I've read instructions on how to set up Evolution. I've followed them with no change in results.
I've tried smtp.live.com:587. It was originally set as just smtp.live.com.
SSL is the way it is set but i've tried TLS too. I've seen both suggested.
The authentication is set to "PLAIN" yet when I press send/receive the error message says
"Error while Sending message.
Could not connect to smtp.live.com: Input/output error
POP Before SMTP auth using a non-pop source".
I've tried removing it and reinstalling it. One thing I did notice is that after reinstalling it, the last messages I had tried to send were still showing up. It operated as if I hadn't removed it at all. I did restart the computer between the removal and installation.
On another Evolution mail problem post, a user said that Evolution was a crappy program and people should switch to something else. Do many people think that is true? Does Thunderbird from Firefox work much better?
I'd rather fix it than give up by switching. I really like Mail on Apple computers because I can switch to the "from" tab and highlight numerous messages at one time to move them or delete them. In Evolution I must delete them one at a time.
I wanted to try out new Ubuntu 11 and while doing it I managed to connect to facebook, twitter, all my chat accounts and MY EMAIL via Evolution. Everything went well until I restarted and went back to my lovely Karmic to log in into the email account and find all messages GONE!
I run a PC with mandriva linux (gnome). I have installed evolution as mailer and would like to "import" old messages which are stored in an usb flash memory. The messages come from thunderbird operated under windows vista.
I use evolution on my home computer to manage my email...when i was at my friends house today, i logged in to my mail via godaddys webmail service....after checking my mail and returning home, i notices that some of my new messages that i viewed on the webmail were showing as they should (unread) in evolution...
however, a few of the messages were completely absent...i then returned to my account through webmail and sifted through all the emails that were in my inbox(all unread as I havent used the service much as i have always had my computer with me)...i noticed more than a few messages that were there that i didnt receive in my evolution inbox....
Is that a problem with my email provider through godaddy, or a problem with evolution? evolution often locks up on me and crashes, so i am thinking it might be something to do with it....thinking about switching to thunderbird and hoping for better results, but i am so used to evolution now...
I built a new PC and copied my old .evolution folder into my home directory which brought back all my mail and filters. I just did a 'check mail' as apparently the auto check wasn't working overnight and it grabbed 85 messages and moved them straight to the Junk folder. I went to Junk, selected all, then did Apply Filters and it did move the messages matching filters to their appropriatelocations. ny ideas on why Junk has become the default location for message delivery and the filters aren't being processed on delivery
I am using Evolution 2.30.2 and recently set it up with my Hotmail account. However, when it fetched my messages, they were deleted from the online server. I read somewhere that there is a 'leave messages on server' checkbox in Edit>Preferences>Mail Accounts>Edit>Receiving Options but it is not there.
I had a problem with my OpenSUSE with Tumbleweed repository enabled that required me to do a hard power off of my ASUS N61JV-X2 notebook PC. I had Evolution running at the time. When I did a cold boot of my laptop and I ran Evolution again, it does not display my e-mail messages anymore. In fact, I had to install Mozilla Thunderbird with the Enigmail extension so that I can read and write e-mail messages.
How do I fix Evolution so that it will retrieve and display my e-mail messages and I can write new ones using this software package?
In the Evolution message list, all messages are shown in bold whether read or unread. I know it's supposed to only show unread messages in bold, but it shows read messages in bold too, so you can't tell between them. The read/unread flag is set properly - you can tell by right-clicking on the message and seeing whether it offers to toggle it to read or unread. But the font remains bold no matter what.
I have started using Evolution because I gave up tying to get Thunderbird or Eudora work. I kept getting "unable to locate mail spool file" when trying to receive mail. I was able to import my mailboxes from my Windows Eudora. But in those mailboxes, about half of those emails had the headers but no body text. What is causing this and can it be fixed.
More importantly tho', when I import my contacts from Eudora, they are a mess, and pretty much unusable. I see a series of rectangles with "alias" on top and "real name" underneath and then when I click on it, expanded below is the alias and email address. There are two of these alias/names per rectangle and they scroll across. Any idea how I can fix that other than manually typing in each address.
Finally I got success in setting up of CDMA USB modem but I could not access the internet or browse the internet. I can only download message and send messages using through evolution. But can browse internet.
I keep getting emails from my 404 error handling system on my CMS saying "mail3.xps.idv.tw:25 cannot be found" with no referer. It would appear that someone is trying to use my server to relay spam to Taiwan. How do I check that my server has the right security to stop this happening?
I currently have a NAS (Ubuntu 10.04) on my network without an access to a monitor due to a lack of a graphics card. I noticed that every time I restart the NAS, it's been taking longer to fully restart. I suspect that something might be wrong, and the warning or error messages are being displayed during startup.
Is there a log file that Ubuntu prints to for everything that is displayed from the moment the system starts up until the login screen? I have email set up on the system via .mailrc and .mstmprc where I could email out with the mail command. I would like to email myself the log file every time the system starts up so I can monitor the system's health.
I'm setting up email gateway using Postfix, Amavisd-new, ClamAV and SpamAssassin on Opensuse 11.1. Everything seems okie, but I can't have messages with added spam headers, such as:
X-Spam-Flag: NO X-Spam-Score: 0.233 X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, score=0.233 tagged_above=-10 required=6.6 tests=[ALL_TRUSTED=-1.8, AWL=0.536, BAYES_50=0.001,]
When I try to debug amavis, I can see that SPAM-TAG, <email@example.com> -> <firstname.lastname@example.org>, No, score=5.406 tagged_above=-999 required=6.2 tests=[LOCAL_DRUG=4, NO_DNS_FOR_FROM=1.407, NO_RELAYS=-0.001] but they don't add to email messages. I've configured amavisd-new with $sa_tag_level_deflt = -999 to add spam headers at all but not successful.
I was wondering if you could recommend a simple way to achieve functionality where received email messages are automatically processed and used in SQL commands (depending on certain criteria, of course). For example, say I have made a PHP-based blog application and it's located at example.com and I'd like to give members the option of posting to their blogs by sending email to a special @example.com address. The email messages received there will be inserted into a database depending on the sender's address, with the body becoming the post and the subject line becoming the post's title, etc.
Another example could be how those trouble ticket systems let customers submit tickets via email, while the support agents operate via a database-driven Web application. Is this the type of thing one must code from scratch, or is there an open source solution out there which only needs to be configured accordingly?
