General :: Change The Wordpress Theme For Which It Askes For FTP Credentials?

Feb 6, 2010

This is my first post so quite fitting it should a pretty stupid question. I have a CentOS server to which I have installed mysql/apache/vsftpd/php5 and wordpress. I can ftp in using the ftp account (i changed the password) but it cannot create directories/files. Im trying to change the wordpress theme for which it askes for FTP credentials and when I put them in i get this error Could not create directory /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-content/upgrade/midnight-blue.tmp

I am guessing this is either a permissions problem on the user side or a directory permissions/ownership issue, but i have no clue where to start on this.

Ubuntu Security :: Wordpress Permission To Write To Files?

Nov 9, 2010

I am having difficulties assigning permission for wordpress to write files. I am having problems with the permalink within wordpress and I think it might be because of the level of permission wordpress has. Currently on my system I need to set permission to 777 in order for wordpress to write to the .htaccess file.

I am running my website on a Ubuntu machine. Version 10.10 Apache2 2.2.4

However, when I leave the permission level set to 777 I still cannot get the permalink to point to the corrent page......See my discussion on this here. [URL]

I think what I need to do is change wordpress to use a user permission or a group permission and not "everyone". I would rather have wordpress setup to login as a specific user before it can write over a file.

How do I prevent this from happening?

Fedora Networking :: Samba Not Working On 15 - Read / Write Privileges

Jun 19, 2011

i have a windows xp machine with filesharing enabled and the shares set up and ready to go i have a laptop on which i did a fresh install of fedora 15 with samba and all the necessary packages to make the fedora machine a samba client to the windows machine.

my problem is that when i go into nautilus and click on the network tab it shows nothing not one single computer...the fedora machine doesnt even show up.....i have done all the tests i can think of and confirmed that the smb service is running, the nmb service is running, samba is allowed thru the firewall and all the computers are in the same workgroup..yet neither one can see each other even more frustrating is when i go to mount a windows share thru the terminal it shows a successful mount (as i type in the command hit enter and recieve no errors) BUT when i go into the mount directory and open the new directory i made for the samba share it shows nothing there not even when i go into the windows machine and add a file to the shared folder...PLUS for some strange reason the /mnt directory already had two empty files called "home" and "boot" already in it i have no clue what thats about but ok, then on the windows side i go into "network places" and click on "show workgroup computers" and the windows machine will show up but not the fedora machine.

these are the commands i have used to install and get samba working- "yum install samba system-config-samba samba-client cifs-utils" "service smb start" anyway until i can figure this out i have decided to start from scratch and erase samba from the machine completely and i am hoping that maybe some one can read all this and come up with some ideas...maybe there is just something i forgot when i was setting this up yesterday its possible i just went to fast and skipped a step again all i want is the fedora 15 machine to just be a samba client with read/write priviledeges

Ubuntu :: Write A Script To Cd Into A Directory

Apr 27, 2010

I have come across this question many times and recently had this discussion again: "I wrote a script to cd into a directory for me. How come it doesn't work when I run it?" I have seen some information out there on google but there doesn't seem to be one centralized answer, so I will try to offer one here. For those of us that have taken an operating systems course, you should understand why already (or I am assuming you know, as processes are such a fundamental part of an operating system). For everyone else, here is my simple/unofficial explanation, how to accomplish what you are after. This assumes you are running a bash shell (run the command "echo $SHELL" if you aren't sure). I can't be certain that all of the solutions below will work in all shells.

The shell, terminal, console, whatever you want to call it is a running process in the operating system. It has what is known as an "environment". You can see all of the variables in this environment by running the "set" command without any arguments. When you invoke a script, you are actually spawning a child process, that has a totally different environment. Any modifications made to the environment for the child process cannot be made to the parent environment. For example:
