I had to disable "smooth scrolling"
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > General > Smooth Scrolling
I'm using LXDE on a HP510 Laptop, it's onboard graphics chipset is a: Intel Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller. I am not using an xorg.conf file, so the settings are just the default autodetect ones I assume. I've noticed it when scrolling in firefox, and can't seem to get it to do it when scrolling in other applications, but I haven't really used this laptop much since installing the Fedora 12 LXDE spin recently. I'm not sure what information to supply that will help you help me. Here is a screenshot to show what happens.
I dunno what the big black box is, its only visible on the screenshot. I had to bind a script to printscreen to get it to make a screenshot, so its probably something I need to do here to get rid of it?
Code:
#!/bin/bash
DATE=`date +%Y-%m-%d %H-%M`
import -window root "$HOME/Desktop/screenshot $DATE.png"
I also can't get the touchpad scrolling to work. Or my external monitor without some issues. So I think I will be making an xorg.conf file at some point.

"screen tearing" whenever I scroll, watch flash videos, or any videos in general. I first noticed this in Fedora 14, and now I notice the same behaviour in Linux Mint.Does anyone know what might be causing this? My Graphics Card is: Nvidia Geforce GTX 280M (1GB) I'm using Nvidia proprietary drivers. Reading some forums I see that the problem might be related to Compiz. Here's my xorg.conf file (if needed);
Code:
Section "Screen"
Identifier"Default Screen"
DefaultDepth24

I use TinyChat a lot, and for whatever reason, the space-bar will scroll down the page and then I have to scroll up every time when I'm inside flash trying to type. Is there any way to completely disable the space scrolling so that I wont have to worry about it. I never used it to begin with, so it doesn't matter to me.

I am running Fedora 9 in virtual box on laptop. Want to set Fedora display size so that I will not have to scroll up or down or sideways to view screen contents. Have tried a couple of options such a resize box and change from full size but these do not help reduce size of Fedora display. Am wondering if it as something to do with the rectangular size of laptop monitor???

I moved from a Linux environment from one company to another and one annoying difference came out:When I used to run an application in a terminal (no GUI), the transcript lines were presented one the window - when the window was full then the scrolling of the lines would continue only if one hit the space bar to proceed (of course waiting to user input did not stop the run).
In the new environment the behavior is different - transcript lines keep going on and on so I need to scroll up - and moreover each page-up command is cancelled by the new lines appearing.perhaps this is also reproduce with other Linux commands , say "find" or "ls".

I'm having a very faint but noticeable electric-like buzzing/grinding. It is not the hard drive but sounds very similar.
It occurs when i move scroll bars, or drag windows. It is highly replicable.
The only other time this has happens is when i install KDE which resulted in me reinstalling. Something id prefer to avoid. I haven't installed KDE this time, but this seems to have started immediately after replacing my fstab file which i accidentally deleted. That's the only thing i can think of.

I'm trying to fix this screen problem I continue to have (an example: in Evolution, its like my screen is too small to see everything, I have to scroll over down or over, then the window moves over and pulls me back to original spot. I've tried to change the screen resolution and that actually makes things worse. The screen problem is very irritating and I don't know why its happening. I've been using Ubuntu or Mint for years and have never had this problem.
Also, a similar problem but nowhere near as annoying: the sides of either side of screen are black. I can't get the monitor to be completely filled. I went to Intel's website and they have a few drivers compatible for linux (at least that is what they are saying).
I'm using Ubuntu lts 10.04 lucid lynx
2.6.32-32-generic
mscatamaran@mscatamaran-desktop:~$ lspci

Under Gnome2 you were able to stop the OS from turning off the screen by selecting "never" as the time to turn off the display when the computer was idle. This was found under the screensaver configuration.The screen tool for Gnome3 does not offer "never" as an option. Does anyone know how to stop Fedora 15/Gnome 3 from turning off the display?

How do I stop the display from turning off? In 'System Settings/Screen', I can only choose from a preset range of minutes - there is no option to disable it. Very annoying when watching a 90 minute movie, for instance. At least under FC14 I had the disable option. I tried unchecking Power Manager in gnome-session-properties, but that disabled the system from suspending when the laptop lid is closed and might have other ramifications as well. I tried disabling Screensaver in gnome-session-properties, but 'System Settings/Screen' still showed up with the same options, so it appears to be unrelated. Anyway, I suspect this is a power management issue, not a screensaver issue.

I have this situation: I installed F13 on my laptop having an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator. The screen of my laptop was flickering and i did a 'yum update'. The flickering didn't stop, but after suspending the system once, the flickering stops and everything is fine. Now after each reboot i have to suspend the system once for the flickering to stop. Please help.
After discussing in #fedora in freenode, some people asked for these (i'm posting in case you need them too):
$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 12)
/var/log/Xorg.0.log -> url.

I Have installed openSUSE 11.3 using VMWare and liked it so I thought I would install as my main OS. So I downloaded the latest livecd Gnome and created a usb install using imagewriter with suse. I can boot to the initial menu asking if I want to boot the livecd or install. If I choose either it will begin to show a lot of things on the screen scrolling really fast and then the screen will go black. I've waiting up to about 15 minutes with no result.

I'm trying to figure out how it's possible to fix so that scrolling of text works.
Example:
I ssh somewhere if I work here ls or more huge text file then I can easy have x=100 or even 1000 lines. it's possible to scroll up and down in the window to se text etc. Then I start screen cmd... then I only have that amount of screen hight and width of the original screen visible from the first window when I started the screen function. How do one configure so that it is possible to scroll indefinite if I for instance do a more command on a text file with some 1000 lines?

I burned and checked the image, but cannot install or upgrade ( I DL both the full and alternate image) Hangs on the Ubuntu screen with the scrolling dots. After this, I tried mounting and running the install from the iso, but since all the files are either .inf or unknown, I don't know how. Next, I tried a trick from the ubuntu site using alt+F2 to run from the iso, and it seemed to work, but now it still tries to DL the updates from the internet instead of just getting them from the ISO. This also happens now if I try to upgrade from the update manager, it keeps asking for the install disk. Is there any way to just use the ISO as though it were a disk? I have been running 9.10 for months with no problems.

I recently bought a 37" Vizio M370NV HDTV and connected it to my Kubuntu 10.10 desktop.Currently my resolution is 1280x1024, so there is black bars on the side of my screen. I want my resolution to be 1920x1080, which is what the TV/monitor says is it's primary resolution. However, when I set that resolution in nvidia-settings, my screen scrolls up. By that I mean that my screen keeps moving up my monitor and appearing at the bottom.

Click on scrollbar. Drag down. Watch text crawl by in fits and starts. Don't even think about using the scroll wheel. And this, on a one page RTF document. With no special characters or images or anything.
I tried the instruction here: [URL] It did nothing. How can I make Abiword usable? It doesn't have to be lightning fast, all I want is for it to scroll at the same speed and with the same responsiveness as all my other applications.

I have a HCL K21 pdc notebook. When I install Fedora 15 KDE then there is no tapping and scrolling of touchpad. But the cursor is moving. It does not work in Live CD as well as in installaton. I have updated F15 to full but still no luck. Touchpad : Synaptics The buttons below the touchpad are working and all the options in system settings are enabled
Note : I have read a forum in which touchpad is detected as ps/2 mouse. So I tried to disable the ps/2 mouse but it disable the cursor movement of touchpad, so it may be some kind of problem!

i'm having a little bit of trouble with my touchpad, it is apparently recognized as a PS2 Mouse, so no edge scrolling obviously, i read through xorg-x11-drv-synaptics-1.4.0.901-1.fc15 (1686) description:
Code:
This is the Synaptics touchpad driver for the X.Org X server. The following touchpad models are supported:
* Synaptics
* appletouch (Post February 2005 and October 2005 Apple Aluminium Powerbooks)
* Elantech (EeePC)
* bcm5974 (Macbook Air (Jan 2008), Macbook Pro Penryn (Feb 2008), iPhone (2007), iPod Touch (2008)
Note that support for appletouch, elantech and bcm5974 requires the respective kernel module. A touchpad by default operates in compatibility mode by emulating a standard mouse. However, by using a dedicated driver, more advanced features of the touchpad become available.
Features:
Movement with adjustable, non-linear acceleration and speed. Button events through short touching of the touchpad ("tapping"). Double-Button events through double short touching of the touchpad. Dragging through short touching and holding down the finger on the touchpad. Middle and right button events on the upper and lower corner of the touchpad.Vertical scrolling (button four and five events) through moving the finger on the right side of the touchpad.
The up/down button sends button four/five events. Horizontal scrolling (button six and seven events) through moving the finger on the lower side of the touchpad. * The multi-buttons send button four/five events, and six/seven events for horizontal scrolling.Adjustable finger detection. Multifinger taps: two finger for middle button and three finger for right button events. (Needs hardware support. Not all models implement this feature.) Run-time configuration using shared memory. This means you can change parameter settings without restarting the X server. and it says that it requires specific kernel modules for the touchpad, otherwise it will be recognized as a normal mouse. Maybe I'm wrong but i think my problem fits in this state.
My notebook is a Dell N4030, Here are some outputs:
uname -a:
Code:
Linux alberto-dell 2.6.40.3-0.fc15.i686 #1 SMP Tue Aug 16 04:24:09 UTC 2011 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Alright, on my last Linux installation I know I did not get graphics lag this bad.
So I go to move a window around, Nautilus, Firefox, a Terminal, and when I move it it takes a second to reach the location and refresh on my screen, and if I move my mouse within that time period then it will move the window somewhere I did not want it.
I disabled Smooth Scrolling in Preferences => Advanced => General for Firefox but I do not think it helped. It takes ages to scroll to where I want it and by the time it gets there it keeps going because I scrolled too many times. I receive scrolling lag on seemly any document of text, this includes gedit as well.
I'm working on finding out what graphics card I have so I can see if it has Linux drivers. I know it is an ATI, but I have no idea how to get its name using Linux commands.

Suddenly, today my mouse seems to have a mind of it's own. For no reason, it's suddenly jumping and scrolling all over the desktop in rapid fashion and apparently left-clicking at will. Reboot does not solve the problem, although it became less after the reboot.
Updates today were:
This is a generic optical mouse that's been used for several years without incident.
So, is there anything that might have caused the problem or is the mouse kaput?
Okay, dug through the drawers and found a Logitech usb optical mouse. Giving that a try as it seems to me that the mouse may be shot.
