Software :: Pwconv Missing - Can't Login With Root - Getting Access Token Error

Aug 7, 2010

I cannot login with root. some time ago, had to make some changes to shadow password file. Cannot log in. Booted into single user mode. typed in passwd root. Get Access token error. I read if the shadow password for root is messed up, would need to delete it and leave it blank OR use pwconv to start a new shadow password file, then do a passwd root to create a new password. pwconv is not installed. Where do I download it for centos?

Fedora :: Error: Missing Binary Operator Before Token

Oct 26, 2010

I have been spending several days getting wxwidgets to work in code::blocks ide on several different platforms. Now I am down to one instance that I can't figure out. I have wxwidgets working in Fedora 13 x64, but cannot get it to work in a Fedora 13 x32 version. Actually, wxwidgets seem to be installed OK, but I run into compiler errors when I try to compile the default wxhello project. I get quite a few messages, in different header files, of this type:

/usr/include/assert.h:39:42: error: missing binary operator before token "("#if defined __cplusplus && __GNUC_PREREQ (2,95) From my friend Google this would seem to be caused by an older version of boost (before 1.37) - see ("It is an issue with old versions of boost and gcc4.4 It is fixed in boost 1.37")

I did a yum info command on both systems for every relevant package I could think of, including gcc(v4.4.4), gcc-c++(4.4.4), libgcc(4.4.4), libstdc++(4.4.4), boost(1.41.0), wxGTK(2.8.11), wxBase(2.8.11). Both systems are fully updated and have the same versions, with the only difference being 32 vs 64 bit. The same headers compile with no errors on the x64 system, but not x32. I have been able to find no other reason for this error than older versions of the preprocessor, yet that is apparently not the case here).

OpenSUSE :: Root Login - Attempts To Start Missing App?

Oct 15, 2010

Somehow an app on this box seems to have disappeared long ago which was configured to start immediatedly with a root login (eg su). Now, whenever upgrading permissions to root or logging (and assuming login as root), an error displays saying "cannot find <application>"

Considering root usually is different than other logins, am not sure where to start looking on an OpenSuSE box. I've tried without success

BASH -v to enable verbose mode before executing a "su."
BASH --debugger to enable debugging mode before executing a "su."

Logout, Login as root and inspect /var/log/ hoping to find some logfile that audits the login sequence, but may be looking at a wrong logfile.

Ubuntu Networking :: Corporate Network Login - Dont Provide Root Access

Sep 26, 2010

In my company, they provide linux machines which has a 4 yr old Gentoo linux. Also the OS is loaded through Yukon PXE/netboot environment, and the users directory is mounted from an network location. Also they dont provide root access in these machines.

I would love to use the latest Ubuntu in this machine. Please let me know if it is possible to configure a ubuntu/xubuntu in this machine. I need to be able to login with my corporate user_id/passwd, because many of the tools use this for authentication. so just doing a ubuntu installation in this machine and mounting the n/w location would not help.

I am trying to build a script that runs on AIX, Solaris, and various flavors of Linux as well. It is very simple, or so I thought. I have the AIX and Solaris servers working well. Next I tried to get my workstation to run the script and it bombed. I am running Fedora 12 x86_64, but that isn't really important. I have various flavors of Linux. Some CentOS, RH, and even a Gentoo server. The script I have runs every hour on all servers. I can push out changes and install software with it, but the Linux WS won't run it.

Here is my script:

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Login To Root In GUI / Error Can't Establish Any Listening Sockets?

Aug 28, 2010

I was logged in as root, made some changes to my users and think I may have inadvertently changed root somehow. Ever since then, my machine runs just fine, I can sudo, Yast, etc without any issues. (Root password is fine) but when I try to log in as root, the system changes the screen display, as if it's going to login, then returns me back to the login prompt without error. If I "ctl+alt+F1", I drop out to the console and can login as root, but cannot startx because the display is already in use.... So, I removed the .X0-lock, but still cannot get the GUI to load. (after running rm /tmp/./X0-lock, I get a fatal error, "can't establish any listening sockets..." "Ctl+Alt+F7" brings me back to the GUI where I am logged in as myself in Gnome) if I login with my user account, everything runs fine and all is well.
