Debian Multimedia :: When Open An Open Office Document From An NFS Share It Always Opens As Readonly

Apr 27, 2010

When I open an open office document from an NFS share it always opens as readonly. This was a problem I had on Arch linux and the fix was to change the locking options in the soffice script but I've tried that fix here and it doesn't work. I've seen a lot of discussions but they all go back to changing the locking options in soffice, has anyone got any alternative fixes or one that definitely works with locking?

I have made a report using libre office. Now I wish to continue editing the document using lyx (latex front end). So the ODT file needs to be saved as some .tex file.

I don't see an option to do this in File menu (export/save as). So is there any other plugin to do this?

Software :: Open Office Cell Width For .csv Files

Mar 6, 2010

I have written my own matlab script to output a cell array to csv format, but I am having problems when I try to view the file in openoffice. In my script, if the length of the string in the cell is longer than 30 characters long I put a linefeed into the fprintf. This all works great and the linefeed works in Open Office, however the width of the columns are still set to the width of the entire length of the string. For example, in my cell I will have several lines 30 chars long, say four lines or 120 chars, and the width of the cell that it is contained in matches the width of about 120 chars long rather than 30. This is a problem because it shows the text all left aligned in the cell, which looks great, but there are pages of white space to the right and the next column is off the screen. This seems obviously inconvenient. If the string is longer than 30 chars I output it in the following way:

" First 30 characters of the string the rest of the string and so on"

I feel like there should be a simple solution to this but I can't find it. Is this a problem with Open Office or my understanding of csv? Would excel have the same problem? How can I fix this?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Get Shared Files To Open / Why Is So?

Jun 15, 2010

Lucid. Two desktops, both Dell 530's.

Desktop A has wired connection to router, was a fresh install of 9.10 upgraded to 10.04. Has printer attached - HP deskjet 845C.

Desktop B has fresh install 10.04 and wireless connection to router. Has problem free internet connection through the router.

Both computers have sharing services installed and a shared folder (called "Public").

I'd like both computers to be able to see the public folder on the other computer, and I'd like computer B to be able to use computer A's printer.

When I try to open a shared folder on one computer from the other computer I just keep being asked for my password. Which password is this? I enter the user password for the computer which is the same on both computers) but that does not seem to work. I've also tried the password for the router, but that does not work either.

Software :: Double Clicking On Open Office Files Leads To Very Slow Opening?

May 15, 2010

I upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. It was a fresh install of kubuntu, although I did leave a windows partition on there elsewhere. Grub messed up but I fixed that with a small text edit. Anyway, when I click on a file, i.e. Open Office writer or Calc, the computer thinks about it for like 60 seconds and then finally Open Office (version 3.2.0)finishes opening the file. It also does this while saving some files. It did not do this this version 9.10 which really amazes me. I have deleted OOo and reinstalled it several times and nothing helps. All other file handling seems normal, and it is a fast newer computer with a lot of memory.

Mar 28, 2011

I just found out about Libre Office. I am currently using Open Office on my Netbook (ubuntu 10.10), and NeoOffice on my Macbook (OS/X 10.6.7).

QUESTION: I have some backups using these formats: .sdw, and .odt. Can Libre Office read documents saved in these (StarOffice / Open Office) formats?

FWIW: I would have preferred to use OO on both machines, but unfortunately OO never fixed a problem with printing envelopes in the Macintosh version. Hence my use of NeoOffice.

Ubuntu :: Get KDE Office Instead Of The Regular Open Office?

Sometime ago I realized my Open Office had changed, I don't remember having done anything in particular but today it isn't the regular open office but what I believe is a KDE version or idk. The theme changed and instead of regular menus I get "window" menus, in the sense that they get effects as regular windows. It's hard to explain it.

I tried uninstalling it and installing open office and also in the soft center open office is more than once, but I tried the different versions and I still get the same problem.

Fedora :: Disappearing Files - Open A Folder And It's Empty ?

Dec 27, 2010

I've using RedHat/Fedora for years now, and every now and then I encounter the following situation :

I open a folder and it's empty. The folder was containing files and I'm 100% sure I didn't deleted them myself. Each time the folder is deep inside the hierarchy and is among other untouched folders. Sometimes it's a folder I never use, sometimes it's a folder I use almost everyday. The missing content is not large (a few regular files).

I'm currently running F13 but I've seen this behavior before on previous versions. This is kind of scary all my work is there and my backups are also done on a a linux backup server.

I'm puzzled, I cannot see any specificities to these folders, I had no crash or cold reboot, nothing I see can explain that. Could it be related to ext3?

Software :: Cannot Open Shared Object File - Error While Loading Shared Libraries

Mar 2, 2010

Now with the application up, if I run a process p1, the process gets activated and works. However, if I start the same process p1 as a different user, say user2, which is completely different from user1 the process complains of

"error while loading shared libraries:...."

I set LD_RUN_PATH both in compile and runtime environment. LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set correctly in both places.

All the above works if I set the absolute path of the required shared libraries in /etc/ file and rebuild the /etc/

But all that happens is this:

Nor ls work either so I'm stuck and thinking about a reinstall.

I don't understand how this system could be so messed up after a failed update.. Used to trust SuSE, not sure anymore after this incident..

Slackware :: Ark: Error While Loading Shared Libraries: Cannot Open Shared Object File

Jan 26, 2011

After finally getting my wireless/graphics drivers working yesterday (thanks to this forum ) I startx to realize that not a single KDE/Qt application will launch, along with Firefox, or Chrome/Chromium. (I did a full install from the DVD, not deselecting anything, and when I upgraded to -current, I also did the same.)

Ark said:

ark: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

but I managed to fix that one by commenting out 'aaa_elflibs' in /etc/slackpkg/blacklist (on a recommendation from #slackware), and running slackpkg upgrade-all again, but that's the only one (afaik) that was fixed. Ark still doesn't work, but it doesn't show that error anymore. When I run it, a box pops up that says "Unable to find Ark's KPart component, please check your installation."

Kate still says:

kate: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Now, konsole, firefox, and Chromium's errors are a little different.

konsole: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/ undefined symbol: _ZN9QMetaType15registerTypedefEPKci

Firefox and Chrome basically say the same thing

/usr/lib/firefox-3.6.13/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ undefined symbol: _ZN9QListData11detach_growEPii

again, I am completely baffled here, as I had kate, konsole and ark running before I upgraded to -current.
