General :: Security - Setup User That Can Only Access A Repository Via Ssh?

Feb 21, 2011

I have a mercurial repository on a secure server, to which I want to grant secure access to an external user.

I added for him a user account and publickey ssh authentication so that now he could push/pull changesets via ssh.

My question is: how can I make this new user account completely disabled from doing anything or accessing any data on the server other than accessing the repository? E.g. he shouldn't even have the possibility to enter an interactive shell session.

I am going to remove root access via SSH which seems fine but I don't know how to add a new user, do I have to create a group first or are there existing groups I can add a user to, and does it matter which group I add a user to if I want this user to have root access with sudo?

OpenSUSE :: Adding User To Access Control List In Nautilus

Aug 13, 2010

I have a shared folder that has it's access restricted to certain users on a file server at work. Currently when I try to add a user I follow this process:
Right click the Folder, go to Properties
Click the "Access Control List" tab
Select a user from the "Participants List"
Click Add

For most users this process works fine but with one of them I get the following error:
"Could not add ACL entry: Invalid Argument"
I also tried a script that a former employee created which seems to employ this command:
setfacl -m u:<USER>:rw- <PATH>
Running the command with the correct user and path returns a similar "Invalid Argument" error.
We're using OpenSuse 10.2.

Ubuntu Security :: Adding User With Access To Mount Point Over SSHFS Only

Sep 2, 2010

I'd like to add a user to my server that will only have access to a mount point over sshfs. Is there any way I can provide them this access without actually giving them permission to open a terminal on my server? I tried /bin/false and /sbin/nologin already, but /bin/false didn't allow the mount point to be made and /sbin/nologin prevented a login completely (also stopped the mount point from working).

Debian :: Opera Browser New Repository Anywhere?

So my sources.list has this line:

But now I see these has not been updated since november 2009. Is there a newer repo somewhere? I know you can download opera from the opera website - but that is too much work when you have many computers to manage.

OpenSUSE Install :: Adding DVD's To Repository List?

Feb 7, 2010

I just purchased openSUSE 11.2 x64 on DVD from, as well as the 5 x64 repository DVD's. The base install went fine, but when I try to add thos's to my software repositories using yast they all have the same listed name, "repository" - I can change that to show "repository disk 1" etc, but when I go to install stuff and the software installer asks for "repository disk 1" I put that in the dvd drive, and it cannot recognise it, spits it out and asks for the same disk again...hmmmm. Should I not change the default name that comes up when each DVD is added to the list? If I leave them unchanged will I be told which is the correct disk to insert, remembering that in the list they all have the same name

General :: Adding A Live USB To A Repository Via Command Line [Kubuntu 10.04]?

Sep 3, 2010

Couple of days I go I setup VLC using Kubuntu's graphic software manager, and installed the 3 plug-ins, one of which was related to pulse. After doing this sound stopped working in flash videos. I had read, not sure where, that Kubuntu didn't use pulse (which slipped my mind when setting up VLC).

So I make the mistake of removing everything which had pulse in it's name (again, via the graphic software manager). A message popped-up saying that some packages needed to be removed/edited (a LONG list, a big clue that I was doing something stupid I guess). I let it run it's course and after that it won't boot properly.

If I boot it normally it hangs at the Kubuntu screen with the five dots filling endlessly. If I press F1 it's stuck at "checking battery status."

Recovery mode boots, but the recovery option does nothing.

So I was wondering if I could boot into recovery mode and go into the terminal and add a live USB as a repository for apt, and try to salvage the install?

Or should I admit defeat and reinstall?
