Slackware :: Slackware Current Installpkg Line 59 Rev Command Not Found

Feb 28, 2011

First time I've done this in awhile Upgrading my Slackware64 -current VM, following the standard routine that has always worked in the past -

slackpkg clean-system
slackpkg install-new
The clean-system removed 2 packages -

Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.

Slackware :: Wine 32 Bit On Slackware 13 64 Bit - Configure Can't Find Some Libraries

Oct 19, 2009

Now i have 64 bit computer i installed Slackware 23 64 bit on it. i followed Alien Bob's multi lib how to and installed needed libraries one by one. everything is fine expect wine configure script can not find some libraries needed: libgsm, libmpg123, libopenal, libxcomposite.

I have already installed 32 bit compatibility packages and used /etc/profile.d/ as recommended in Alien Bob's howto. configure -- does not really list anything for pointing for libraries.

Slackware :: Installing Wine In -current,multilib

Dec 20, 2010

I have an old Win98 program that controls my amateur radio transceiver. I want to try it in wine, so have followed Eric's instructions on a clean -current installation. When I get to the wine SlackBuild, it tells me that it needs fontforge & webcore-fonts. I am assuming that I need to install these dependencies as 32-bit, but I am not sure, so would someone use the proper baseball bat to get me on track?

Slackware :: ALSA - Sound Will Cut In And Out

Oct 11, 2010

basically, sound will cut in and out. if i'm on videos, whenever sound cuts out, the video will continue for exactly two seconds and stop. sometimes i can reload the videos video, and it'll either play for two seconds without sound, or go normal, but usually for only a little time, not even a minute. similar problems for amarok, spotify and other applications using the sound card. this is the output when trying to restart the alsa demon

root@muspellsheim:/etc/rc.d# /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa restart
loading alsa mixer settings: /usr/sbin/alsactl restore
unknown hardware: "ich4" "realtek alc650f" "ac97a:414c4723" "0x1462" "0x5770"
hardware is initialized using a guess method
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1255: failed to obtain info for control #11 (no such file or directory)
/usr/sbin/alsactl: set_control:1255: failed to obtain info for control #12 (no such file or directory)
output of /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf

root@muspellsheim:/etc/rc.d# cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0
some of the utput of lspci -v

i've tried reconfiguring alsa by using the alsaconf application, which didn't help. the output from restarting the alsa demon, may indicate that the correct driver isn't loaded.

Slackware :: Alsa / Kde4 Sound System Messing?

Jun 23, 2010

Slackware 13.1_64, everything works like a charm,BUTevery time my slackware boots up,the sound system changes from one device to another. So if I boot now, sound address is hw:1.0.
then if I reboot, the sound address becomes hw:0.0It's really annoying, because every time I have to re-run xmms and mplayer setup to get any sound! Also, if any program is playing audio (like xmms), other programs cannot play audio at the same if I'm listening music with xmms then I try opening some video with mplayer or firefox/flash, I get no audio on this video....What's the deal with kde phonon? I thought it was supposed to be the new global sound system for kde4, like arts was for kde3

Slackware :: 64 - Current Kernel No Sound On CLI And In Browsers?

Jan 9, 2010

I just upgraded my Slackware64-current version to the latest kernel Almost everything works just fine, except that I have no sound on the command line and in web browsers, anymore. I don't get any sound out of the command line program play and Flash.

For example, I have a few .wav files, that I can play with Kaffeine and Amarok, but when I try to play them with play on the command line, the program runs and displays that it plays the file, but I don't hear any sound. The same happens with XMMS, too: It displays the usual graphics showing the dynamics and the progress, but my speakers remain silent.

Also, alsaconf doesn't detect my audio hardware, anymore. I have onboard sound and a Creative X-Fi PCI card. Usually both were "seen" by alsaconf. Now it tells me, that it can't identify any audio cards.

On the other hand, when I go into the multimedia section of the KDE system settings, I can "Test" the audio hardware, and the onboard sound works great and I can hear the KDE welcome sound. I have already remove all packages withe 'alsa' in their name and re-installed them, including their compat32 peers, and rebooted several times. Up to now to no avail. Does anyone have a clue, what the problem is caused by?

Slackware :: Find Upgraded Kde Packages For Slack13 Without Going Current?

I have a new install of Slack 13 and upgrading to current will break a lot of things for my 4 year old son (he's a gnome guy, what can I say). I will be using this machine too, and I NEED KDE, but of course the stock KDE packages are unstable to say the least. I know I've seen people talking of downloading upgraded kde packages for slackware 13, but when I google, I find a lot of things complaining about the stock KDE and of course Eric's packages for current.

Slackware :: Onboard Sound VIA82xxx Not Working In Current And 13.1

Mar 24, 2011

I did, what one should not do: I changed a running system. I removed a PCI sound card, replaced a damaged DVD+RW drive and upgraded to Slackware-current (Slackware 13.37 RC-3). The mainboard is an MSI KT4V with VIA8235 onboard sound. Now, my problem is a bit weird: Everything seems to work just fine. E. g., programs like speaker-test, play and aplay show no error message. In fact, they seem to be able to play sound. E.

play /usr/share/sounds/pop.wav gives no error message. But: I don't get any sound out of my speakers. Here is some additional information. I'd be really grateful, if someone could point me to relevant information or useful advise, what this problem could be caused by.

It's an up-to-date Slackware64 current, with only ruby and poppler downgraded to 13.0, but I don't think either would do it.

It's not a big deal, but I wonder if it might be a sign of some bigger problem.

I've tried commenting out the printf lines but I think they may be needed in the application. Apparently there are lots .cpp using the printf call.

Slackware :: Script Error In Mkinitrd With -current

May 7, 2010

since an update to the latest -current version, it comes to an error inside the init script from the initrd.gz on my system, shortly behind the scan for encrpyted devices inside lvm containers.

The message is

mdadm: No arrays found in config file

1 logical volume(s) in volume group "vg" now activeash: missing ] mount: mounting crypt-vg-root on /mnt/failed: No such file or directory ERROR: No /sbin/init found on rootdev (or not mounted). Trouble ahead. You can try to fix it. Type "exit" when things are done. If i then unlock the crypted root device within the lvm, boot continues. I think this is a bug, because configuration did not change, and it worked before the update.
