Server :: Need To Set Up Named Server For Class Room With 10 Imaginary Hosts
Mar 30, 2011
I need to set up a named server for a class room with 10 imaginary hosts the sub domain managed by this name server is s123456.eca.edu.au where 123456 is to be replaced by your student id. The named server will forward unresolved queries to the dns server.

I am using Cent OS 5.5 and i want configure DNS, but while configuring bind i am getting below error.
#/etc/init.d/named restart Stopping named: [ OK ] Starting named: Error in named configuration: /etc/named.conf:57: open: /etc/named.root.hints: file not found[FAILED]
I and setting up a home web server using Ubuntu 10.04 server (local only). I am currently using Webmin 1.53 to access it remotely all is going great very easy to use. Webmin - Check, ftps-fileZilla - Check, Apache -It Works BUT I cant seam to set up Apache as a named server using Bind DSN. Tried most of the help in the fourms and ..... I think my problems is in the master server selection, do i have to use [URL]... or can i just use myservername. I have tryed both with no luck. First time with the server addition.
I have been finding the solution of this problem from last 2 days but i am still unable to get a clue what's happening?I have a virtual dedicated server in godaddy with CENTOS5 operating system. The problem is occurring with the named service. It is becoming dead within 1 hour of starting it./named status gives named is dead but subsys is locked. The issue is their in google but it has no solution.Anybody have a idea what's going on ... i am fed up of starting teh named service again and again.
Been hunting around and trying this for a few days now, without any success.I have configured a CentOS 5.5 box to start up named on boot. I have a Windows 7 machine currently going straight to the router for its DNS, that I want to point to this box instead. While I have done all the tests on the Linux box, and everything says it's working, my Windows 7 box just can't seem to contact the named service. While I am certain that my firewalls are configured correctly ( as I was able to connect through with Cyberkit on the other ports that are open ), I have even switched off the firewalls on both machines entirely to rule them out. And they still can't connect.
I was studying for RHCE exam, and the only problem I cant query these records from the same server Every time I dig myself it digs the ICANA example website But from anther computer it works fine
i've made a big update of almost 300Mb.I'had a working DNS server. Now, when i boot the box, named works and it resolves all the clients. If i make any change (enter a new client for example) and of course i restart named (service named restart), named stop but does not start again !!!In order to get a working named, i 'm obliged to reboot the box?
I've setup my server by following a ton of goods, and it seems to work ok, but I need to start using my server for email in order to receive orders placed via my website. I've followed this guide - [URL] I followed the steps above, and tested the mail server via telnet, and all seemed to be ok. I tried sending an email via Squirrelmail, from cs@thinclientwarehouse.co.uk TO my working email simon@c1systems.co.uk, but the server returned with the following message:
<simon@c1systems.co.uk>: host mail.c1systems.co.uk[95.128.128.129] said: 550-Verification failed for <cs@localhost.thinclientwarehouse.co.uk> 550-The mail server could not deliver mail to cs@localhost.thinclientwarehouse.co.uk. The account or domain may not exist, they may be blacklisted, or missing the proper dns entries. 550 Sender verify failed (in reply to RCPT TO command)
I am using slackware 13 and openldap 2.4 with webmin. whenever I start my server i get following error "root DN missing". when I try to create root DN I get error "unable to create object class". where do we define object classes?
I got CentOS 5.4 with LAMP. Installed Plesk, tried to configure it, and then error - Quote:Unable to restart Named: dnsmng failed: dnsmng failed: dnsmng: Service /etc/init.d/named failed to restart
i meet problem on named service, i want to configure my DNS with bind...after i /etc/init.d/named statusThis shows :"rndc: connect failed: 127.0.0.1#953: connection refusednamed is stopped"
don't find box of BIND so i was posting into this boxI have some problem when i config bind DNS for my domain and then i can't start named, this's error message
[root@server1 named]# service named restart Stopping named: [ OK ] Starting named:
I have installed bind from the repos and am trying to setup a caching name server. After copying the stock name-cachinging.conf to named.conf, I tweaked named.conf to reflect my LAN:
options { listen-on port 53 { 127.0.0.1; 192.168.1.102; }; listen-on-v6 port 53 { ::1; };
I am downloading the 64-bit image of Ubuntu 9.10 right now, but I notice the filename has "amd64" in it. Will it only work on 64-bit AMD processors? I want to install it onto an enterprise-class server with a 64-bit Intel Xeon processor.
OS CentOS 5.4 I have a DNS server that is logging all named and dns requests to the chrooted named directory. By default named logs to /var/log/messages but I want to isolate all the dns queries and requests to separate files. I know I can add entries to /etc/syslog.conf to "roll" the logs and logrotate should pick them up but fuzzy as to the syntax. I don't know what "tag" to use in the first fieild. for example
# Log anything (except mail) of level info or higher. # Don't log private authentication messages! *.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none/var/log/messages
I updated bind to version bind-9.3.4-6.0.3.P1.el5_2 today, and then I started getting "Starting named: named: user 'named' unknown" messages. Selinux is enabled. ID named shows: uid=25(named) gid=25(named) groups=25(named) context=root:system_r:unconfined_t:SystemLow-SystemHigh
I am very new to Linux, 1 week old. Have just installed fedora 5 days ago and I now need to get hosts to connect to this server through telnet. I downloaded a xinetd rmp file but do not know what do next to get it installed and configure it.
What is the (officially) proper way to configure Apache so that a given IP address can have two or more virtual host names, each going to different distinct configurations (e.g. with different DocumentRoot, Alias, etc), and also do this for the IP address so that it goes to a designated configuration rather than defaulting to the first or a random host name?
Apache documentation does not appear to address this. If so, it has it hidden in a non-obvious place.
I have been searching and reconfiguring for 6 days now and have lost several clumps of hair.. PROBLEM: I want 2+ virtual hosts on my ubuntu server (1 ip) BUT - Only the first "alphabetically" listed sites-enabled shows.
000-default [URL]
Individually they all work (if i a2dissite for each leaving 1)
[Code]....
it seems i have tried everything that everyone else is having issues with but nothing seems to fix mine. Possibilities:
1) EC2 2) Permissions on the files - I changed everything to the apache2 user "www-data" - no dice. 3) I am a dope...lets hope its that and one of you kind people point me to my issue.
We have a requirement to configure multiple email gateways, for mail accounts configured on linux server. the application will trigger mails (bulk mails) and we would like to configure multiple email gateway to be used.
we decided to do it this way.
In dns we would create MX records like
yourdomain.com. 3600 IN MX 20 realmailserver1.yourdomain.com. yourdomain.com. 3600 IN MX 20 realmailserver2.yourdomain.com.
where realmailserver1.yourdomain.com. and realmailserver2.yourdomain.com. will be our email gateway.
and internally on our linux server (from which mail is sent) if i specify multiple smart hosts like
I have a CentOS 5.5 Server and I'm hosting 3 different Name-based Virtual Hosts. Using Joomla 1.5 for the site. Each VHost has it's own subdirectory under /var/www so I have .var/www/vhost1, /var/www/vhost2 etc.
It works perfectly, but I'm getting a lot of unwelcome spiders and bad bots trawling for MP3 files because there are a few MP3 files on one the sites. I've added all the Bad Bots to my .htaccess file and now I need to know if I should make only ONE .htaccess and put it under /var/www OR create a different .htaccess file for each vhost (this would be an ideal solution, but I'm not sure if it can be done).
I run a few virtual servers at home behind a NAT, including an e-mail server, with dynamically updated dns records pointing to each of the servers. Consequently, I suffer from the loopback problem when working with these servers from my desktop PC. (E.g., I ping one of the dns hostnames and the ping goes to my router instead of the server). I fixed this problem by manually adding the in-home IP addresses and name pairs to my /etc/hosts, and then setting /etc/host.conf to a "hosts, bind" order.
This seems to work for every application on my desktop except for one: the postfix installation on my desktop PC (used for mailing smartctl messages and so forth) cannot communicate with my in-home e-mail server (times out). I checked the logs, and it looks like it is trying to use the IP address from the actual A-RECORD, rather than the address in my hosts file.
So I'm not quite sure what to do. There seems to be a "proxy_interfaces" parameter in main.conf which might be relevant, but I think it only deals with received mail. I'd prefer to have the mail going to that e-mail server, rather than also having to check the spool on my local desktop accounts.
Ok I have 5 virtual hosts on one IP but only 1 domain (forwardconference.org) will be sending emails out to people....confirmations and such. The other sites may send out some emails...like back to my personal email address not hosted on this server. That works. But to people on like aol or yahoo or hotmail....it doesnt
Problem is, most people are not getting the emails. Mailq reports them being deffered for some reason. I'm having our ISP setup a PTR to forwardconference.org....does this mean all my emails from either of the sites....even if I put a different FROM: address in the php mail script...will come from [URL]? Or should I just setup my server as its own SMTP server?
I run couple of sites on a virtual hosting environment and I am in need of adding additional SSL for a different domain name. From what I read on some forum topics indicate that SSL cert requires different IP address. meaning one cert for each IP. Is this true? If so, then I'm having some difficulties understanding the benefits of running virtual host if a server can't host multiple secured site through single IP. Any way to run multiple ssl site within virtual host environment. I'm hoping for a possible workaround.
