Server :: Firefox Content Encoding Error - Warning: Date()

Jan 8, 2011

I am getting the following in my Apache error file.

[Code]...

However, as soon as I did that and restarted Apache, Firefox displayed a page stating: Content Encoding Error The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression. I have the following settings in my php.ini.

Code:
zlib.output_compression = Off

how a date setting can change the compression setting?

Debian :: Iceweasel Content Encoding Errors (Mate 8.3 Live)

Jan 31, 2016

Background :
Debian Mate Live 8.2 + Iceweasel 38.6 = no problem
Debian Mate Live 8.3 + Iceweasel 38.6 = problems as explained below

Details :
I have used Debian Live versions for a while now without any major problem. After switching from Mate Live 8.2 to Mate Live 8.3, I am almost unable to use Iceweasel due to the following problems :

- much slower browsing overall with regular timeouts (the page's layout or some ads often fail to load)
- random content encoding errors (the grey page similar to SSL related errors)
- random non-latin characters or strange strings (like ""q5"&2>html34") appearing along a page's content

Reloading the same page may (or not) fix the issue : it is random, sometimes it displays correctly (but still very slow) other times it gets worse.

Even when many encoding errors are displayed, if I check the page's source code then it appears to be clean.

I have not changed my usual settings and both the OS and Iceweasel are in vanilla state without any 3rd party add-on or package installed.

I doubt it is hardware related since switching back to 8.2 immediatly solves the issue. The 8.3 support seems ok too because I verified the md5 of all files with success.

Fedora :: Firefox 4 / No Flash Content Is Working

May 20, 2011

I've been struggling with Firefox and Flash for a while now and I'm finding that Firefox 4 has pretty well broken. No flash content is working in it at all but it seems pretty difficult to locate to remove and reinstall. I think I installed Firefox 4 from the Mozilla website originally. Most stuff works in Opera but I've been firefox for a long time so reluctant to change. I've searched for forums for similar problems but can't seem to see anything. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox 3.5 but that's not fixing the issue.

Every time after I resume from suspend, firefox freezes up to 7sec at "flashed" sites. That is very annoying. If I disable the adobe flash plugin, it is smooth without flash. If I restart my laptop, everything goes flawlessly. It did not if I restart the X service. This also affects the chromium on both the smooth scroll and the freezing at flashed sites. Additional information: Opensuse11.4 32-bit KDE.

Red Hat / Fedora :: RPM Installed But No Flash Content In Firefox (Missing Plugin)

Mar 7, 2010

I tried the "rpm", the "yum", and the "tar.gz" from the adobe site. Both rpms installed fine but I still can't view flash content in Firefox (missing plugin). The .tar.gz contained a .so file, but the installation instructions for the flash player said I should see an installer file in the .tar.gz, but I do not. I can't believe I can't even get flash player working. Their instructions said to check under "Help > About Plugins" but obviously Firefox does not and has never had such an option. I hate Adobe.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Can't Rip Mp3 With Kio Slave Or K3b - Libsndfile Error - Could Not Read Some_song.mp3: Encoding Failed

Mar 3, 2011

I am unable to rip from CD to .mp3 using pretty much any tool. Dolphin / Konqueror auidiocd:// KIO slave shows the mp3 folder, but when you move the tracks you get: Could not read some_song.mp3: encoding failed WARNING: libsndfile may ignore -r and perform fseek's on the input. Compile without libsndfile if this is a problem. I'm running 11.3 (KDE 4.4.4) with K3B 2 from Packman (with the k3b 2 codec package) and K3B fails as does the KIO slave method above. Lame version is: lame-3.98.4-2.pm.4.1.x86_64 Restricted multimedia formats packages are installed from Restricted formats/11.3 - openSUSE Community Wiki Alsa works great otherwise, I have no sound issue, etc. - just can't rip anything to mp3 Seems like I'm not the only one who has had this problem, there are a few posts here on the Suse Forum, and others elsewhere, but the resolution seems to be nebulous at best. Sometimes lame 3.98 from packman works for some guys, other times not, etc. Unable to rip an audio cd into mp3's using 11.2 - opensuse.opensuse.org - ArchiveOrange

Ubuntu :: Java Add-in To Firefox Has Warning

Dec 28, 2010

When I try to add the Java add-in to Firefox in Ubuntu 10.04, I receive a warning that the next time the computer boots it will remove this add-in. It wasn't critical, so I abandoned the effort but I'd like to know what's up.

I set up an Ubuntu laptop for my sister w/ 10.04 LTS, so she'll have support for a long time. She's going to use it primarily to play interactive games on the Washington Post web site, browse the internet, and play DVDs. It also has OO.o which she might use a little bit.

Each interactive game on their site requires a different add-in (!) and the crossword puzzle requires Java (not JavaScript). But when I tried to add it I got an error message. (speculation) Has Oracle's purchase of Sun resulted in a dispute with Open Source uses of Java?

My sister took the laptop to LA this week, so I no longer have access to the computer to write down the error message. I have checked with some earlier releases of Ubuntu I have here at home (9.04 & 8.04 LTS) and the Java add-in works just fine. I haven't tried 10.10, however.

I think this is an Ubuntu issue, rather than a FireFox issue, as the error message I received was generated by Ubuntu, not FireFox.

Software :: Date / Relocation Error / Receive Error During Boot Up

Apr 1, 2010

I just completed migrating a Redhat 9 server to new hardware and a virtual machine. If I attempt to alter the time or date with the date command I receive the following message. "date: relocation error:/lib/tls/lib pthread.so.0: symbol __resp, version GLIBC_PRIVATE not defined in the file libc.so.6 with link time reference"

This also comes up during the bootup process along with "sleep: relocation error". I have never done I migration like this before and would consider myself a novice to linux. This server runs an old software package and I would prefer not having to totally reload it. The software we run appears to be run fine at first glance but I don't want to roll this out until all errors are resolved..

Server :: SSL Virtual Hosts - CSS And IE Mixed Content?

Mar 8, 2010

I have several websites available via both HTTP and HTTPS, with images served from a separate virtual host. This breaks in IE because the images are loaded by the CSS, and because they're in a separate Virtual Host, I have to use absolute paths in the CSS.

Example:

[URL]

Renders in IE like this:

[URL]

The issue being that the wiki.archserver.org is being served via SSL, but the header logo is served by img.archserver.org and the CSS uses the absolute path [URL] to load the logo. So, the only solutions I can see are:

1) Change the CSS to always use SSL. This will slow down the site, increase load on the server and is generally a poor-practise as a "solution"

2) Maintain 2 copies of the CSS, serving a HTTP version to HTTP requests, and HTTPS version to HTTP. This creates a management overhead which is less than desirable.

3) Create an Alias in Apache to send requests for [URL] to [URL] internally then rewriting the CSS to use relative paths.

4) Screw IE; it works in Firefox, Chrome and every other browser AFAIK. The sites are for a Linux project anyway.

Ubuntu :: Organize Folder With Images By Date Taken Rather Than Date Edited?

Aug 1, 2011

As a photographer I'm constantly taking photos and storing them in folders. Now occasionally I'm using two cameras (either for different settings or an assistant is also taking photos) which means that for one event I can have differently named images. Both cameras have the same time set (which always helps in Windows) but in Ubuntu when trying to sort my folder by date taken I can't.The options I'm given are to sort them: Manually, by Name, by Size, by Type, by Modification date and by Emblem. Now none of those are helpful to me once I've done a few edits to the images. So please if anyone knows, how do you organise a folder with images taken on different cameras by Date Taken rather than Date Edited?
