Fedora :: Grsync/rsync Crash / Grsync Run For Some Time And Once It Nears Completion It Will Crash?

Jun 14, 2011

I'm running Fedora 15 with current updates and kernel. I do not have anything special or non-standard about my configuration or setup. I use grsync to sync my home folder files to a remote rsync server on my network. I've checked my hard drives and my memory and everything else I can think. Here is the problem:

grsync will run for some time and once it nears completion it will crash. This, however, is no standard crash. It literally shuts my computer "OFF". I have shared the remote rsync folder through CIFS as well and I can copy those exact same files through nautilus with drag and drop without issue. I have had a few occasions where the rsync process will complete without issue, but this is a rare occasion. Since it powers my computer completely off I do not enjoy the luxury of having any log files or messages to attempt to diagnose from.

Fedora :: Configure Multiple Remote Machines To Be Exactly The Same?

Feb 11, 2011

utility to let me automatically apply shell commands I type to a list of given remote machines? I'm configuring and maintaining multiple servers all running Fedora 12 and I want them to have exactly the same configuration. I also need to check out code from subversion onto these machines; the same code from the same location into the same directory. I know I could use ssh to run each command individually for each machine, but is there a tool that will make this much easier?

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Use Remote Connections Like RDP And VNC To Both Windows Machines?

Aug 12, 2010

The geek-in-me won and I bought a spiffy little Acer Aspire One netbook, windows 7 starter installed. Now I take it to clients' workplaces instead of my 19" laptop (that I also bought because the geek-in-me won that time too).

So what do I install in the Suse/openSUSE range? I want a lightweight Linux, like Meego or openSUSE with a light Desktop. I need to be able to use remote connections like RDP and VNC to both Linux and windows machines, so maybe Meego can't do that? But maybe openSUSE with a very light Desktop will. I'll use gmail from the netbook, no need for Thunderbird etc. I like to have multimedia.

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Mounted File Systems Available On Remote Machines Using SSH?

Dec 19, 2010

if this a simple question I apologise, I'm using a SSH connection to a remote machine which also has ubuntu installed, my remote machine is connected to a windows server, using <places> <Network> and clicking on the server, doing this mounts the server into my remote file systemWhen i look around the file system of the remote machine i'm unable to make the windows server resource available to me.I Assume it has a service file in the /dev directory, but would not know what its called or what i would have to do with it.In the mean time i've managed to connect directily to the server from my local machine, (which is probbialy a better solution) but is it possible to see the server via my remate machine?

In the file lists it looks like files are actually being copied but when I look at the harddrive none of the new files are actually there. As far as I can understand I'm not making a dry-run. I also found this thread: [URL] And I tried using the commands suggested in that post, with the same results.

Ubuntu :: Grsync Excusions / Execution Showed The .thumbnails Folder Still Present?

Sep 13, 2010

I am still struggling with implementing my exclusions, from this thread:url

Backups via Grsync are OK, but I want to exclude a bunch of hopefully-useless stuff, like thumbnails, trash, cache etc.

It looks easy here:
url(last post)

So I had a first attempt, to exclude the ".thumbnails" folder.I created a text file "exclusions" in "/home/me/.grsync".In that file, I wrote "-.thumbnails/".In Grsync Advanced Options, I wrote "--exclude-from=/home/me/.grsync/exclusions".Simulation results showed no red errors but no good results.Execution showed the .thumbnails folder still present.

I tried manually deleting the .thumbnails folder from the backup & rerunning Grsync, but it puts all the thumbnails back.

I changed the "exclusions" file to say just "-.thumbnails" (I really am not familiar with CLI syntax) but that does not work either.

Ubuntu Security :: GRsync --Exclude Command Syntax / Backup A Whole Startup Disk To Another?

Jul 19, 2010

I'm trying to backup a whole startup disk to another with GRSYNC but I don't need some files or directories. For example, I don't want to backup my 'swapfile1' (I do not have a dedicated swap partition) or the 'media' directory' in order to no enter a looping sync.I've searched the web for the correct syntax of the --exclude command but none have worked if applied in the advanced option "before" rsync starts. These a sample of NOT workin syntaxes:

exclude /media or -- exclude 'media' or -- exclude "media"

same for swapfile1:

exclude swapfile1 or -- exclude 'swapfile1' or -- exclude "swapfile1"

OpenSUSE Network :: Set Up 3 Virtual Machines On A Server

Dec 10, 2010

I only have one IP adress to access the server. But the server will host 3 web sites and I want them to be hosted in a vm. So, I want to setup 3 virtual machines to do it and use apache reverse proxy and vhosts to redirect the domain requested to the right vm. Now. I understand the concept, but I am not an expert to set that up....

I have an openSUSE 11.3 server. So, I have to set a virtual machine server, is that right? I have been told that I cannot do it with VMware server in oS 11.3. Can I use virtualbox for this? I only have to install virtual box? Is there a special version to install? Once the virtual machine server is install, is it trivial to create 3 vm? So, I want to know wich are the steps I have to take to set that up.

Server :: Giving SSH Access To Machines On LAN From Internet?

Mar 7, 2011

I am having a server in a corporate data centre. There are some virtual machines running on it.The main server is accessible from internet via SSH. There are some people who within the lan access the virtual machines whose IPs on LAN are

from internet only one host is allowed SSH. This machine has public IP and is also connected to LAN on the IP Tunnel is not allowed on our network. So now I am came across a solution as explained on this link. I am not clear with on which machine .ssh/config file I add following

Host ProxyCommand ssh nc %h %p Should above be done on gateway where public IP and ssh is allowed or client on internet who has to login. Do I need to create separate accounts on the gateway also so that the users who can SSH to gateway then are forwarded to inside machines? Or one account on gateway is sufficient for different people logging in via internet to my gateway and then forwarded to internal machine?

Then do I need to create an account user1 on the gateway also?

1) What is the correct syntax for ProxyCommand on gateway's .ssh/config should I use

ProxyCommand ssh user1@inside.machine nc %h %p
or I should use
ProxyCommand ssh in nc %h %p

2) Should I create new user accounts on gateway also which exist on internal machine?

Server :: Clone Or Duplicate Installation To Other Machines?

Sep 20, 2010

I'm planing to get 4 dedicated, remote servers for my start up, the question I have is: how to do only one installation and then duplicate or clone this installation into all the other machines. I could install those 4 servers manually, but the problem is - we have a lot of things that our application needs, and later there will be more servers. So an automatic way to do that would be better. We are using Debian. Perhaps there's a way to create a "big package" that will contain all of the necessary software in it, then simply require from the hosting provider that all of our servers come with Debian installed, and then manually upload the "big package" and install it?

General :: Monitor The IP Address Of Machines Who Are Accessing The Server?

May 7, 2010

I have developed a website. Now i would like to monitor the IP address of machines who are accessing the server. The simplest possible solution to this that comes first into my mind is to use jsp inbuilt tags.

out.print( request.getRemoteAddr() );
out.print( request.getRemoteHost() );

but it has given me some other IP address(May be a proxy server's ip address)

So i was left with one choice is to run netstat on host server . Here is what i have done.

netstat -an | grep 8080 (As tomcat runs on port 8080).

Should i modify the command or there is any other way around to monitor the IP address?
