I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains). My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.
Since FC6, NFS became very finicky and seemingly causes servers to randomly denying mounts from some terminals but not others, with all exactly the same new FC installation and exactly the same hardware - crazy!. The only difference is hostnames of the terminals trying to mount NFS volumes on the server and I made sure that /etc/hosts on all terminals and servers contain each others ip addresses and hostnames. I always uninstall SELinux which is truly a huge pain in a corporate environment. Is there ANY way I can relax the NFS authentication on the server in order to make sure clients can mount volumes?
e.g. the following is encountered often, with sometimes crazy situations that clients can only mount nfs volum es from the server after I first boot the server and then ALL the terminals. It is painful as you might agree! Other way round, no go, client will not mount until server is booted and then client booted.
In this case I really prefer windows lackey security. It works. Never mind how crappy windows is, at least I don't have diabolical access problems on servers.. NFS used to be very nice about 6 years ago but truly sucks recently imo. /]# mount -o soft -t nfs nfsserver:/public /xfer mount.nfs: access denied by server while mounting nfsserver:/public
I configured ssh on one of my servers to require public/private key authentication and deny access to login requests not using a public/private key. Now I need to unconfigure that, but I can't remember how I did it. I've looked through ssh_config and sshd_config, and nothing rings a bell. Googling only tells me how to enable public/private key authentication, not how to require it or stop requiring it.
i'm teacher and have been assigned to take care a small computer lab in my school.in my computer lab there is a centos box with 2 network cards, switches and computers.at this moment all the computer can access the internet directly without connected to the router or server..(bypassing the centos box).so now i would like to make my life more " difficult" where i want all the computers access internet through my centos box so that i could have a better internet usage management.
I've been reading some forum and even centos document regarding establish networking but it seem difficult for me to understand all the terms and jargon overnight.I also have been try to configure the 2 nic using the "trial and errors" approach but no luck..i'm really hoping that someone could guide me so that i could configure the 2 nic correctly hence my centosbox could be more beneficial..below is the scheme how my network will be..internet------>modem--------->centosbox--------->switches------->computers(eth0)(eth1

How to configure samba, cups, whatever else is necessary to turn centOS into a print server that provides the print driver to any client adding a printer shared from the server? For example, I have a Xerox Phaser 6125n and I was able to configure my server to share the printer for clients on the network, but I still have to have the driver available on each client that uses the printer. I want to be able to put the driver on the server and provide it automatically to any client who installs the printer.
Also, this is not as important but rather just an annoyance, I am having an issue with samba that I can't figure out. I have user shares set up on the server but the first time any user accesses their personal share they need to provide their password. How can I set up user mapping between linux and windows accounts so that authentication is automatic? I've done this in the past with Fedora Core 2, but that was a long time ago and the same doesn't work on centOS.
