Red Hat / Fedora :: Cannot Install Edimax 7717 Drivers On RHEL6

Jul 10, 2011

I am using a wireless usb device to connect to my router and the make/model of the device is Edimax 7717Un. Drivers for Linux came with the CD and I tried to follow the Read me .sta but I cannot understand few things.

1 When I tried to compile the code by using $make command the code is getting compiled with some errors which are mentioned below:

_Linux_STA_V2.1.2.0/os/linux/../../os/linux/rt_linux.c:1508: error: 'struct net_device' has no member named 'open'
/root/Desktop/LIN_FILES/2009_0521_RT2870_Linux_STA_V2.1.2.0/os/linux/../../os/linux/rt_linux.c:1509: error: 'struct net_device' has no member named 'stop'

if there is way of installing the driver for my make and model in RHEL 6.0 or is there anything I can do( which I think would be slightly too much for me) in this circumstances. I am attaching README.STA and the MAKE file with this post .

Hardware :: Wireless N USB Dongle Edimax Drivers For Ubuntu

Oct 2, 2010

I bought this Wireless N USB dongle Edimaxx EW-7811Un today and it works fine in Windows. But when I plug it into my Ubuntu Netbook, nothing happens? I'm guessing this is a driver issue and there is a driver available on their website but I have no idea what to do with it as I have never manually installed a Linux driver before. I tried looking up some tutorials but all the methods seem completely different between specific hardware. The driver is available here : [URL]

But my problem is, I am unable to find any place which gives a sequence of steps or commands to follow which will help me install this... Can you please guide on how i can go about this

CentOS 5 Networking :: Install Ralink RT61 Driver (Edimax EW-7128g)

Mar 23, 2009

I have just purchased an Edimax EW-7128g with Ralink RT61 chip and physically installed it in a system running CentOS 5.2. Trying to follow the installation instructions, I get the following:

[root@webtest Module]# make all

Fedora Networking :: Edimax RT73 USB Recognized But Not Working?

Feb 17, 2009

I have just installed Fedora 10 on a Dell Inspiron 530. I was delighted to see on the very first boot into the system that my Edimax RT73 USB stick was recognised by the system as it was offering a selection of wireless networks to connect to. But oddly, my own network wasn't listed there. I created a new network and entered the network id manually. Once it was in the list, I checked the radio button and saw a message that I am connected to my network. But after a few seconds the network icon disappeared.

I rebooted the system and again went through the same process with the icon disappearing.

I have an Edimax wireless access point with DHCP enabled. The security is WPA2 Personal with AES.

Vista is also dual booting on the same machine and working fine.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Mounting Of NTFS Filesystem On RHEL6?

Jul 7, 2011

I am new to Linux platform and have installed RHEL 6 on my computer. I have gone through different posts on websites regarding how to mount windows drive on to the Linux file system.Here are few results of my trial where results are slightly overwhelming for a guy like me:

1. Mounting NTFS file system using mount commandAs a su-)
" $mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1 /media/MyFilesystem"

Output: error: unrecognised file system ntfs

2. I followed step by step instructions of installing Fuse and ntfs-3g_ntfsprogs but had no luck:

while using this command for the installation of for FUSE-0.9(which I guess prepares files for installation) I am getting this error :
" Command use: ./configure --exec-prefix=/; make;make install"

Error: "Checking Kernel source directory.../usr.src/kernels/2.6.32-71.e16.x86_64...Checking Kernel source version.......Not found "
Configure error: cannot determine the version of the Linux kernel source.Please configure the kernel before running this script.

Woooh , as u can see my Linux version is mentioned in that message so can anyone lemme know whether this issue is because of the incompatibility of Fuse with my version of Linux or am I suppose to make some changes in the command itself.

Fedora Networking :: F15 - Configuring Wifi Card - Edimax EW-7612PIn With RTL8192SE Chipset

Aug 15, 2011

I have just installed an Edimax EW-7612PIn PCI-E Wifi card which has an RTL8192SE chipset. This chipset is not supported under current F15 kernels so I have installed the driver and firmware from source and have that working fine. The driver can see the card and I can issue 'iwconfig' commands successfully enough to see my Wifi network.

The problem I have is that I don't understand the relationship between iwconfig and wpa_supplicatant and as I'm running a headless F15 server I cannot use the NetworkManager GUI to help me. I should also note that the Wifi network is using WPA2-Personal encryption.

This is what I have done:

Configured /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-wlan0 with what I think are reasonable values (based on google searches), including the ESSID, TYPE as Wireless, etc.

Configured /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf, including using the key value returned from wpa_passphrase.

Arranged for wpa_supplicant to run from boot, using chkconfig.

However when I run 'ifconfig wlan0 up' I get the error message 'link is not ready' and indeed looking at the output from 'iwconfig wlan0' there are no configured values. I also understand that some values are configured by iwconfig and others by wpa_supplicant, however it's not clear what.

How do I permanently set iwconfig values?

How do I configure wpa_supplicant?

Red Hat / Fedora :: RHEL6 Login Banner With Cancel Button Not Working

Jan 25, 2011

Having a little issue with creating a login message banner in RHEL6 that uses two buttons. One for Accept which logs the user in. The second for Cancel which immediately logs the user out. I've modified the /etc/gdm/PostLogin/Default file to have the script, posted below, and it worked perfectly fine in RHEL5. But in 6, when you click Cancel, the user is still able to log in. It even states in the system logs that the user cancelled the login.As you can see, I have the script using the 9th field of the user's env to get the PID, and using the kill command to end the process, which should be logging the user out right away if they click the Cancel button. This works in 5 without issue (though I used -f5 in RHEL5, had to move it to -f9 for RHEL6).

Fedora :: Need GCC To Install Wireless Drivers In F14?

Mar 7, 2011

I'm using Fedora 14 (standard Gnome desktop) on a x86_64, GCC is not pre-installed. It's from a physical DVD installation, not a live installation. As I need GCC to install my wireless drivers, I have no internet access right now and can't use

# yum groupinstall "Development Tools"
#yum install gcc gcc-c++
or any other yum commands.

My next course of action was to try to call GCC by name, but when searching for it in the terminal, all I get is:
bash: find/: No such file or directory
Although the Add/Remove Software utility recognizes that I have GCC and all other standard compilers (but does not install them for some reason). So I think, okay, no problem, I'll just download the .rpm and other dependencies from a different computer and add them to my machine with a flash drive since I can't find them within my own OS.

I got gcc-4.5-1-4.fc14.x86_64.rpm, then these additional files as outlined in the error message:
error: Failed dependencies:
binutils >=
cloog-ppl >= 0.15
cpp = 4.5.1-4.fc14
gliibc-devel >= 2.2.90-12 ()(64bit)

I get as far as installing the cloog binaries before I start getting long lists of failed dependencies, like so:
# rpm -Uvh cloog-ppl-0.15.7-2.fc14.x86_64.rpm
warning: cloog-ppl- Header V3 RSA/SHA256 Signature, key ID 97a1071f: NOKEY
error: Failed dependencies: ()(64bit) is needed by cloog-ppl-0.15.7-2.fc14.x86_64.rpm ()(64bit) is needed by cloog-ppl-0.15.7-2.fc14.x86_64.rpm

I go on adding missing dependencies, the next one being, but
error: Failed dependencies: is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 (GLIBC_2.0) is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 (GLIBC_2.1.3) is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 (GLIBC_2.2) is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 (GLIBC_2.3) is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 (GLIB_2.3.4) is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64 is needed by libmpc2-32bit-0.8.2-9.1.x86_64

I feel like I'm in an infinite loop of failed dependencies. Basically what I want to know, is there a much easier way of doing this that I'm missing? Or should I just tough it out and rpm -Uvh all these lib binaries?
