Red Hat / Fedora :: Can't Create/write To File '/tmp/ On CentOs
Jul 3, 2011
I have a huge issue on this error on mysql. Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql the full error message is Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_4761_0.MYI' (Errcode: 30)
trying to learn how to write a bash script that will create a new text file named jimbola in my home directory. The file will need to be able to have the first and last name of Jim Bola included in it.
I had set up a Samba server on SuSE linux a few years ago with a single shared directory. It has been running fine ever since, surviving various system upgrades and hardware migrations without ever needing to change the configuration (well, maybe once or twice). However, since a few weeks ago, it refuses write access to the share. It just returns NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED when I try to create or write to a file. That's also what /var/log/samba/log.smbd says (nothing more AFAICT). It's the same for all clients, i.e. remote Win XP PCs or local smbclient.
The funny thing is that it allows write access immediately after rebooting the server, but after a while (the next day or so) it refuses again. Restarting smbd or nmbd doesn't change anything here. I suspect that this started after installing the latest security updates for OpenSuSE 11.2 on May 17th. The new packages were (according to /var/log/zypper.log):
Somehow I can't see which of these might have an influence on samba. But I am absolutely and positively sure that I didn't change anything else. I logged into the server only once in months, and all I did was doing the updates using the updater applet.
On Monday i had Centos 5.3 with / and /home in ext3, with no problems (at least i don't remember any problem).But as I decided to use XFS (I have a SSD , and i use a 3D Modeling software called Maya , that it's quite sure it could take advantage of use XFS), i decided to create in my new Solid State Disk , that i recently bought , a swap , a / partition formated in XFS , and a /home partition in XFS too.Then I used a Live cd to copy the contents from the old HDD to the new SSD , using find and Rsync --> (cd /mnt/oldroot/ ; find . -xdev -print0 | rsync -avHx --exclude-from /mnt/rsync-filter . /mnt/newroot/)
Once done , i edited fstab,Menu.lst , install grub in the MBR and i had to use mkinitrd to load the XFS.ko so be able to boot with the new system.All worked fine , although i only could log with the root , my normal user could not log , and a error appeared : GDM could not write your authorization file.This could mean that you are out of disk space or that your home directory could not be opened for writing.In any case it is not possible to login. Contact system administrator.But i remember that prior to Copy all to the new SSD , and use XFS , all was fine, and i was able to log with my user.
So thinking that perhaps the copy did by Rsync was not ok , or something i decided to reinstall Centos, now in a partition in my SSD and try another time , but without using a /home partition neither a normal user ,only using root.The SSD had a Swap , a 32 GB XFS partition and the / of the new Install in ext3 (20 GB ).Once installed Centos 5.3 , I updated only Glibc , yum and Python packages (like said in Centos 5.4 Release notes recommends , but not doing the final yum update)Then i updated only the kernel , to have a XFS supported Kernel , and then i rebooted (I would update all once migrated to xfs)
I installed the latest CentOS 5.5 in my PC. I added some public domain projects on it. Now how can I make another boot-able CentOS iso file with all the new projects I just added? In the other words, I try to create a boot-able CD with the CentOS and all the projects on it.
I need to create a server for a database that has a .db file that is over 800Gb. now my first disk is 50Gb and i do the standard
100m ext2 boot 2000m swap * / ext3
now I have a second 1.2T that i want to be /opt is there a way to set up 4kib block size in ext3 in the os install? or should I do it after the install? Is this block size even big enough?
I have a php script that I want to create a file and allow it to be downloaded. I know the dangers of chmodding a directory to 777 so I am trying to avoid this.
What I have done is logged in through ssl as root.
Navigated to the directory where the directory I want to chown is located. I then perform:
I just ordered a new unmanagd VPS I have already Apache, PHP and Mysql the only problem I have now is how to create a A,NS and MX record in CentOS. I dont know where the DNS zone file is in CentoS
I'm setting up a network backup on a workstation here using Webmin. I'm backing up to a local FTP server. I set everything correctly (FTP credentials, directories, etc) but I get an error saying "Could not create file" and another saying "Cannot write: Operation not permitted"
I'm running Apache on Centos 5.5, with active SELinux, and I'm having trouble getting my Perl script to write a file that doesn't yet exist to a folder which has the proper security context.
I install a Bind 9 with chroot in Centos 5, but the issue is the Reverse Name Resolution Zone File didn't create by default like other zone files, so i look into /var/named directory i don't find the reverse name resolution zone file even if i add this zone on named.conf
zone "1.168.192.in-addr.arpa" IN { type master; file "1.168.192.testsip.com.zone"; allow-update { key "rndckey"; }; notify yes; };
All my torrents go to my home/username/Download/ folder, I could read/write yesterday but now I cant even copy the files to a flash drive.The error i get is "Cannot create regular file '/home/username/Download/file' : Read only file system.
I have a number of text files throughout my /home/pjs/Documents directory tree that have execute permissions set. Almost all of my file names have spaces in them. I am trying to write a shell script that will look at each file in my Documents directory, find the ones that have execute permissions set, and run the command chmod 644. Of course, I don't want the command run on the directories.
The following script *doesn't work*, but might serve to illustrate what I am trying to do:
#!/bin/bash for x in "$(ls -R)" do if [ -f "$x" ] && [ -x $x ]; then chmod 644 "$x" fi done
I want each file and directory name to be placed, one by one, in the variable $x, and then tested with the "if" conditionals.
The first problem seems to be that, although the command "ls -R" does produce a complete list of the files and directories I need, they are not placed, one by one, in the variable x like I want them to be.
Also, I think I should use the shift command so that the option -R doesn't get included as one of the values of the variable $x, but I can't figure out where to put it.
I'm trying to create new RAM image file to get my server load raid1 module upon start, I was following redhat documentation & it suggested to use the following command mkinited --with=raid1 inited-raid1-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r) However after running this command I'm getting this message No Kernel available for 'inited-2.6.18-128.el5"
Have been playing with Centos 5 and finally got it installed and have done most of the updates. Before I proceed much further it would be nice if I could create a backup/install disc of how it is now. No Data,just the setup and software used etc.Have a dvd rw on the server.I recall mondo rescue installed years ago on a linux server we used.
problem that I have in red hat enterprise linux version 5. I intend to create a file system but I'm having troubles because it show me an error after typing the command to create a filesystem:mke2fs b 4096 /dev/sap (mke2fs b 4096 /dev/<device>)The error finish with a message: "The device apparently does not exist; did you specify itcorrectly?" I dont understand why this happens
I want to create a single file for my installer which will display the user license and when the user agrees it will ask for the user name and password and then install the package. The package is an rpm package. I have seen some programs which will do this like Java JDk setups.
I am working on JNI(Java Native Interface) on fedora 7 where i need to create a .so file of .c.(For example Hello.c to Hello.so). But i am not getting options to be used with the "cc" command. What option or the command.
Trying to create a ks file to install all packages (fedora 12 of course). The file have in it:
%packages @ everything kernel kernel-devel
which used to work in RHEL, but in here, I get the message on screen: "You have specified that the group 'everything' should be installed. This group does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort". so what's the group name/code to install all packages?
I have started using Ubuntu and I have to add a large number of users, over a thousand, using a Bash Script. I also have to give them a password. Do you create a text file first.
I'm installing a tool on Linux system.For this installation, i didn't have the installation document. I got to know that have to create configure file from the bin folder
I'm in the process of creating local repos for our company servers (CentOS 5.5) and laptops (Fedora 13). And while the CentOS part went perfect the Fedora part is causing major trouble.But first things first, here's the setup: a central CentOS 5.5 server is running Apache2 and has a VirtualHost listening on Port 8080 for both CentOS and Fedora. The DocumentRoot for this VirtualHost is /data/repo wherein two directories, centos and fedora, reside.
This is the .repo-file for CentOS that works like a charm:
Quote:[local] name=CentOS-$releasever - local packages for $basearch
I need 2 Linux users to share a folder. Within this folder, users should always be able to create files and sub-folders and write into any sub-folder (whether they own it or not). However, they should only be able to edit the files they actually own.
I was wondering how to create a GNOME screensaver from a video file? I don't really care what video format the screensaver creator supports because I can always transcode the video with ffmpeg or mencoder. I also, don't care if the creator uses proprietary formats such as mpeg, mpeg4, avi, etc. I do however want the program to create an installable screensaver.
