Programming :: Parse And Modify File Without Creating A Copy?
Nov 4, 2010
I don't think this is a "perl one-liner" of find and replace. I'm trying to auto-fill some information in a listing of files. The simplest example is that in the files the following exists:
I would want the script to find this and populate it with something like -- Date : 20101004-1758
I have a few more similar fields to autofill, and I'd like to do this from within a larger perl script I'm developing to process these files. So, how I perform in-place file modification from within a perl script?
There is a file with that format of each models' information.I don't think that's good format, but I cannot change that format. I needed to modify the model name, 'model = xxx' as 'model = abc'.And I don't know how to parse and modify 'model = iii' and 'model = ddd'.The only clue to parse 'model = ddd' is the second 'model = ' after the second 'system information'. But how to parse the second keyword?Is it possible with 'sed'?I sometimes have to modify the information of the file.using shell script if possible.Python is ok. (Shell script is better for me.)
I have to parse a file containing billions of records and populate them in the Data structure. I have used a lot of C++ class and creating objects of the class I am storing the information retrieved by parsing the file.
Now as the file become huge and number of objects become very large my code is getting bad_alloc error as it is not finding any space avalable in the heap for allocating new object.
I am trying to make a perl script which reads data from a file and parse it. The data in the file has the following syntax
Code: Device Physical Name : Not Visible Device Symmetrix Name : 1234 Device Serial ID : N/A Attached BCV Device : N/A Device Capacity
[Code]...
Each unique record starts with "Device Physical Name". So, I have a set of records within "Device Physical Name". I want to read this set of records starting from "Device Physical Name" and ends up till next "Device Physical Name". Offcourse FS is ":", and I just want to print/or later put info in a csv file.
I am trying to think of a logic where my file contains some data I had to read and do some processing. Issue is that file contains data multiple times. For example:
::::::::::: var1=value1 var2=value2
[code].....
I have to read first paragraph of variables and do some processing and then move on until the end of file. Variable names are same in whole file but for each paragraph the value is different. I can't think of a logic to attain this task. How can I do it? It should be a simple bash script, but I am not able to work out.
I am trying to use ln to create a hard link to file a and whenever I do it, it creates a copy of the file instead. After having edited file a, when opening the link, it shows the old information and opening file a shows the new information. The command I am using is
Code:
ln /home/user/file
within the new directory i am trying to link from. I am using centos 5.4.
I'm a Red Hat 6 newbie but have been around Unix.I looked at some threads here regarding this issue and haven't been able to find a solution.I'm executing;
When I look in /var/log/cups/error_log, here's what I get: E [18/Jul/2011:14:37:36 -0700] [cups-driverd] Bad PPD name "/etc/cups/ppd/BR5370_2_GPL.ppd"! E [18/Jul/2011:14:37:36 -0700] copy_model: empty PPD file!
i have just modify tcp.c file in/usr/src/linux/net/ ipv4 location.Now should i compile the complete kernel?if not then how to compile that net/ipv4 package or etc.
I have around 600 empty text files that I need to add the name of this file as part of the data, I mean files from "file1.txt to "file599.txt, all of them empty, and I need to get the name inside the file, so, when I open the file show the name as part of the data "file1".
So far so good. Now, I want to define two variables (e.g. e1,e2) in the bash file, so that their values would correspond to 00.00 and 30.00, as read from the input file. This one I have not found yet, thus asking for your advice. At the end, writing echo $e1 $e2, I should get 10.00 30.00 This is even harder to me: I want to replace the values emin,emax in a new file "modify.dat" which looks like that:
with the values e1 and e2 I have in my bash file. In other words, I want to call "modify.dat", find these two lines and replace the numeric values with the e1 and e2. At the end, my file should be like:
I have a .txt-file with ~50.000 lines of numbers, generated by a mathematics program. From this file, I need line ~ 1.100 to line ~16.000 (these lines are always the same btw, this may make the solution easier, dunno) to be copy/pasted to another file, where the lines ~500 to ~15.000 (also, every time the same) should be overwritten by the aforementioned lines...I haven't found or come up with anything that works yet, mostly I find solutions to copy everything from one file to another but I can't find something to specifically overwrite a part of a file with part of another.
I wanted to copy one file to multiple new files. I have an idea to write a script and do the operation. But here i m looking for any particular command to do this operation.
I had made some modifications in the source code of a software called "HomeBank". I'm not able to make a setup file using "Inno setup".how to create an .EXE file for the source code to execute.
I need a little help creating a ftp script that will take connection and file details from text files.For example:ftpscript.sh - script that looks for details and does transferftpparams.txt - ftp server connection details in single line csv formatftpfiles.txt - files that need to be transfer, one file per line.I have tried using awk with no success
I need to parse the file of same name which exist on different servers and calculate the count of string existed in both files.Say a file abc.log exist on 2 servers.I want to search for string "test" on both files and calculate the total count of search string's existence.For example if file abc.log on server 1 has string "test" 2 times and file abc.log on server 2 has string "test" 4 times.then the output will beStringName : Countexampletest : 6 timesNote : I have created the password less connectivity using ssh-keygen.
I've been trying to sort this out for several hours and I?m totally lost? I?ve been searching around, but haven?t found the solution to my problem. I have a directory with 100 files. I need to copy 10 lines of each files (let?s say from line 45 to 55) into one unique file. So I guess I could use sed ?w, but I didn?t manage to write the right script. I also tried using a loop to create 100 different files, each one with the 10 lines) to concatenate them later on. But I only got 1 file, not 100.
I have files and folders various permissions.I copied the files and folders to X server.But I forgot to copy of the permissions.Like is hereHow can restore the permissions?
I have file in which i have some paths, i want to write a script so that it can read the file and copy the files from the paths to some destination folder which i will specify in the shell.
I have a directory and sub-directories (4 or 5 depths). There are several type with extension in them (*.mp3, *.wma, *.jpg, etc). I would like to copy the whole directory to another location recursively but only *.mp3 files.
I am a novice to the shell script. In my system from db server the log files are enerating with the name log1.txt,log2.txt..... It is capable of keeping 10 files at a time in dir called /db/sis/log1.txt. I want to copy the log1.txt to another directory when ever it generating by attaching the time stamp to it for the back-up purpose. this files will be there for a period of 24 hours. after that the back-up dir should be cleared and it start copying again the fresh file from the same dir.
I have a Python script that copies a couple of DLL's and EXE to a directory before running the EXE. It can be a fresh copy or the files can already be in the target directory and are then overwritten. The script uses shutil.copy() to copy the files and that works but as the files are copying processing continues and the script tries to run the files mid copy, causing an error.
I need a way to wait for the files to finish copying before the script continues. Putting the thread to sleep isn't good enough, calling os.system("copy ...") also doesn't work, using os.path.exist() won't work because the file will exist during the copy.
I need this script but I don't know how to do it I have one folder with several folders inside.On each folder a have one MKV or AVI file inside...What I need is a script to change the "modification date" of each folder to the "modification date" of each MKV or AVI that the folder has inside.
