OpenSUSE Wireless :: Fresh 11.2 Install - Wifi And Dhcp?

I just did a fresh install of 11.2 on my Thinkpad (previously running 11.1) and am having trouble with getting wifi to work properly. My wireless will not connect reliably. Sometimes it connects after reboot but then drops and will not reconnect. Below in line 4 of the status query you can see that it says DHCP4 client NOT running.

Ubuntu Networking :: After A Fresh 11.04 Install DHCP Server Not Working?

Aug 1, 2011

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 (from 10.04) and spending several hours trying to figure out why the ad-hoc connection between my two computers (Fedora14 <-> Ubuntu 11.04) no longer worked - it had worked fine for almost 2 years with 10.04 - I've finally concluded it was a DHCP problem. This realisation (which was slow in coming!) dawned on me when I reversed my setup and configured the Fedora box as the DHCP server and everything was suddenly working perfectly! A quick internet search threw up an installation file called "isc-dhcp-server" which other Ubuntu 11.04 - related forums are also complaining about. My problem is that this file, although available in the repository, is not even installed!!!

It seems unlikely that the developers forgot to include DHCP support, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Fedora Networking :: Broadcom BCM4310 - No Wifi After Fresh Install

Jun 27, 2009

I have had a search around, any cannot find any thing I can make sense of as to how I go about getting the above card to work with Fedora 11. Just done a fresh install (need Linux for some development) but have no wifi. My chipset is this Broadcom BCM4310. There seems to be a whole load of options, and I don't know which works and which don't:

kmod-wl
broadcom-wl
ndiswrapper

I can sit with an Ethernet cable to install/update as necessary, but really could do with wireless.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: WiFi Internet Works On LiveCD But Not After Install

Nov 15, 2010

I am super new to linux. I have tried a lot of distros but went with OpenSUSE11.3. I have both gnome and kde live cd. Now to the problem, When I put in the live cd and boot - the computer finds the wireless card and lets me connect to the internet. This works on both versions. But after clicking on the install icon the wireless no longer starts and then I cant get it to work. Maybe its something I should be doing. After all I am new to this.

Debian Hardware :: Fresh Jessie Install - Machine Doesn't Boot With PCIe WiFi

May 4, 2015

I recently finished a mini-itx machine and everything was working great with a fresh Jessie install. I put in a PCIe wifi card and now the computer won't boot. The power LED is on, the PSU fan is spinning, but I get no display output at all and I don't know how far into the boot process the thing even got. I removed the card and the machine boots fine again.

I only have one PCIe slot so it is my only option, I don't have another PCIe card to try, nor do I have another machine to test the wifi card in. The card is brand new, for what it's worth.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Get Broadcom 4313 Driver On Fresh 11.3?

Jul 19, 2010

From my lspci output I get Broadcom 4313 and 0x14e4:0x4727It appears that Broadcom supports this card with their Linux STA driverBroadcom.com - 802.11 Linux STA driver guess on that page mine is 4313 2.4 Ghz 0x14e40x4727 Dell 1501even though my notebook is Toshiba. Then they say that the driver is included with Fedora and Ubuntu but nothing about OpenSuse. Then they go on about compiling the driver myself. I'm pretty sure the modules required for compiling drivers are not available on a fresh install and without Internet connection. Is there an easier way to get the driver? Could someone knowledgeable make some .rpm that I can download on another machine and put on a USB stick? Or do I have to wait until Suse developers get to it?

Or could someone make wl.ko file they are talking about on Broadcome Readme? It looks fairly easy to install the driver, if I knew exactly what to disable/blacklist and what security module to load.Another thing I got from dmesg, not sure if it's of any help, was that for this card pci entry that goes like 07:00.0 there's "support D1 D2", then "#PME supported from D0 D3hot D3cold" then the next line "#PME disabled". I've searched this forum but the only time 4313 was mentioned when someone made a mistake with the model number

Ubuntu Installation :: UNR 9.10 Fresh Install On HP 110-1081tu Netbook - No Wireless

Mar 9, 2010

I just got my self a netbook. I bought the one with linux because I figured that if they sell it with linux, it's probably using h/w which supports linux. I played around with the Mi variant it had pre-installed, but it was a bit limited and slow, so I installed UNR instead. The install went fine, and UNR is really nice to use and feels faster than the Mi too which is great. However, wireless isn't working. It's got a broadcom chipset (BCM4312) which I think needs a proprietary driver, but when I use the Hardware drivers tool, it doesn't have any options to install a driver.

OpenSUSE Install :: Fresh Install 11.4 Blocks At Splash Screen On Reboot

Jun 30, 2011

I ordered a SuSE 11.4 installation DVD from an online Linux Distro distributer that I've used before with no problems. I did this rather than burn my own DVD from the website. I thought that I might perform a fresh install of SuSE 11.4 on this Dell 1420 Laptop that is currently running Ubuntu 11.04.

Note, this is a completely fresh install, not a side-by-side installation with Ubuntu; I followed the installation sequence that completely repartitions the entire disk for SuSE, and accepted all of the suggested options regarding logon, etc.

Everything goes well ... sort of. The first install didn't reboot correctly, i.e., the set-up that is supposed to run after the initial install never happened and I had to manually power-down the machine and restart from the "safe mode." Needless to say, that didn't work as expected. So, I re-install, from scratch, trying different options: for instance, instead of LVM, I decide to have an un-encrypted partition scheme and accept the "obvious" options ... thinking that the LVM options interacted badly with the install. Eventually I get the installation to proceed correctly, or so it appears: it goes though the entire sequence, including the re-boot, building the default image, etc.

I test this image by removing the DVD, power-cycling the machine, and all looks good, so I begin the process of installing software updates, etc. Being paranoid, I re-boot the machine, and all restarts correctly, etc.

Now here's the annoying thing. The next day, I power the machine on, and it locks at the splash screen. By the way, these are the exact symptoms that I experienced with the bogus/incomplete installations. The boot sequence proceeds up to the splash screen and waits forever.

So, in sum: I spent inordinate amounts of time attempting to install this software, carefully following the instructions provided by the installer. In every instance, after leaving the machine off for a day or so and rebooting, I am met with a splash screen that sits forever. Needless to say, I am extremely reluctant to repeat another day of software installation to only have to re-start with no assurances of success. Either I go back to ugly Ubuntu (which has always worked out of the box, by the way), or I look at other options. I was hoping to use SuSE, but I really don't care which distro is on that machine as long as it works and it provides TeX, R, Emacs, Scheme, and a few other software packages that I'm sure are of no interest to your customer base.

OpenSUSE Install :: Disable Win 7 Dual Boot And Do A Fresh Install?

Apr 16, 2011

I have been trying to install openSUSE 11.4 on a Windows 7 laptop, but the suggested partitioning sucks and I lack the skills to do it manually. I would like to format the laptop drive, give up Windows for good and do a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4. openSUSE wants me to keep Windows boot. But I do not want it!

I have tried for an hour now. Can't format, there is no options for that in the openSUSE 11.4 install. There are expert options, but I really do not know how many partitions does openSUSE require. For some strange reason openSUSE wants to keep my Windows partitions. WHY? And if I delete all of the partitions, it wont automatically recreate the needed partitions for openSUSE, it only displays errors and won't let me continue.

For the love of God, do I have to open the laptop, remove the hard drive, put it in another computer and format there?

Why isn't there an option for removing all partitions, formatting the drive and installing openSUSE?

How to disable the forced Win 7 dual boot openSUSE offers and do a fresh install with only openSUSE 11.4 WITHOUT ANY WINDOWS DUAL BOOT BS.

By the way, since my laptops internal DVD is broken and I will not repair it until my daughter is old enough to handle optical drives, I use USB DVD and it won't give me any boot options but starts installation right away. This is also strange.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Wifi Glitch On Eee PC?

Nov 12, 2010

I have an Eee PC 1005 dual-booting Windows 7 and openSUSE 11.3. Everything is nice and polished except for one thing. The first tweak I made to the system was the kernel parameter "acpi=Linux" which made the Fn keys work. Then I installed eee-control from the openSUSE Build Service, which worked very well (I was getting a bit frustrated; the source would build and install, but eee-control-daemon would immediately die. Anyway.).

My problem is that when I press the Fn-F2 combo to disable wifi, all mention of wifi completely vanishes from the tray applet. Even when I press Fn-F2 again to turn the radio back on (and the light does cycle like it does in Windows), it is gone. I need to reboot with the radio on, then it works perfectly again, until I press Fn-F2 again.

Networking :: Configure A (openSUSE) Client To Dhcp To EBox DHCP Server - Lease An IP Address

Mar 25, 2010

I am puzzled with trying to configure a linux (openSUSE) client to dhcp to eBox DHCP server. I am using dhclient to lease an IP address with dhclient eth0 -s 10.45.48.108 and get a response

openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67 interval 4
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPOFFER from 10.45.48.108
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: Network is unreachable
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: please consult README file regarding broadcast address.

The server reports eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0
eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.45.200.2 to 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0

I interpret this as the server receives the request and the client accepting it but the lease does not last long and the connection breaks. what this could be and why the connection breaks? Or my undestanding is totally wrong on how it works and should work? And BTW, where is that README file that's referenced in the message I receive on the client?
