OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crashes: "Failed To Create XIC" In Command Line?

Jan 7, 2011

Whenever I used "Ctrl+S", "Ctrl+O", or any other keyboard command that opens a KDE FileDialog, OpenOffice crashes every time. OpenOffice produces the dialog closes it and produces another two and then crashes. This happens from every OpenOffice program. Running OpenOffice from the terminal, the error that it outputs is "Failed to Create XIC".If I just access the same commands using the mouse such as Clicking "Save As", "Open", or any other command that opens a KDE FileDialog OpenOffice does not crash. The error is very similar to that of "".OpenOffice 3.2.1scim 1.4.7-174.1KDE 4.4.4openSUSE 11.3 64-bit

OpenSUSE :: Base Crashes

May 10, 2010

Every couple of hours OOo Base crashes - just closes the program of its' own accord.

Annoying enough in itself, but at least it usually recovers up to the last point I saved my work. The last time it happened though it didn't even recover to my last save point - it recovered to an old save point! So I have lost 30 minutes' work.

OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crashes On Start In 11.3?

Aug 12, 2010

Recently OpenOffice has started crashing on me when loading the program. The splash screen will appear for a moment then the KDE crash handler comes up. Here's what I get when launching from the console:

slomojo@linux-yiyy:~$ ooffice
KCrash: Application 'soffice.bin' crashing...

I've tried deleting the .ooo3 directory in my home directory but that doesn't seem to help. Also, I'm running with Sun's JDK in case that makes any difference. I know that OpenOffice was working fine for me immediately after my fresh install of 11.3. I only use OpenOffice once every couple of weeks so I'm not sure if there was a specific update or anything that broke things for me.

OpenSUSE :: 3.2 Crashes On 11.3 With GNOME?

Sep 8, 2010

When I've installed openSUSE 11.3, OpenOffice was asking me to install JRE, and I did it. However, next time i run it, it crashed without any error log. When I run it again, it sad a couple of time that JRE is defective, and asked me to reinstall it again. Eons passed, but my patience was rewarded. Impress was up. but just for a few seconds. Then it crashed again, and left no signs of life. I've repeated the same cycle few times... Then I decided to search for a solution, and read topics where similar problems were discussed. One solution was to expand my swap memory, and the another one was to install an older version of OO. I wasn't very eager to install an older version of OO, so I tried to expand swap memory by cutting memory from the other partitions. I found reference that swap memory should be twice bigger than RAM. Since i have 512 + 256 MB RAM, I've typed 1536 MB as a new value for swap memory. Error appeared that value of swap memory must be between 42MB and 684MB. I'm not sure about the second number, but it was between 600 and 700... I must get working as soon as possible, because it's very important for my work. I'm running 64bit openSUSE 11.3 on AMD Sempron 2800+ with 768MB RAM using OpenOffice and java-1_6_0-sun

OpenSUSE :: OpenOffice Crashes While Loading Literature Database?

Nov 15, 2010

I have a strange problem which I've encountered for a long time but still weren't able to solve it. In openoffice writer, when clicking on extra->literature database the program immediately crashes. I encounter this problem with all the latest versions of Oo (3.2,3.1...) and on OpenSuse and on Kubuntu, so I guess it must be a widespread problem.

Slackware :: Frequent X Crashes Into Command Line With Error Messages

Nov 26, 2010

I'm having, oddly enough, stability problems on my main slackware desktop. Whenever I try to do certain things, for instance going fullscreen on a flash video, starting regnum online or open arena, it drops out of X into the command line with a few error messages (next time it crashes I'll post the messages). On occasion, it'll do that without any input. Now, there's a few major changes I've had on the desktop since yesterday, chiefly that I've been able to connect it to the net for the first time in a few months. Now because of this, I've been installing plenty of software from slackbuilds, plus flash from adobe (necessary evil). I'm using xfce with some compositing on a geforce Ti 4200 AGP 8x 64Mb with nvidia drivers installed and dual monitors, each now set to 1280x1024 and in twinview, pentium 4 2.8Ghz, 1 GB ram. HDD has a 70GB ext3 slack partition, triple booting with 80GB ext4 ubuntu lucid partition and 40GB ext4 mint isadora.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade 11.04 Failed - No GUI Or Command Line

Apr 29, 2011

Keep getting alert notification box, with close button. But get no response from keyboard or mouse. So I can't get past it. It seems that you do not have the hardware required to run Unity. Please choose Ubuntu Classic at the login screen and you will be using the traditional environment. (Late model Dell, probably less than 2 years old.) But since I can't use the mouse to activate the close button, or use the keyboard (alt + x, or enter), I can't get past that point. Is there some control sequence I can use during boot startup and get to single user mode and modify something?

Fedora :: Create An ISO Image Out Of A Directory From Command Line?

Feb 7, 2010

I am implementing a strategy to organize my data among the several machines I work with and thought that getting some ISO images out of it could be a good idea because that way data would be 'read only' thus allowing for easier synchronization.

At first I thought of using the "dd" command to create the ISO out of a directory, but it fails code...
So, I have two questions:

Is the ISO 'format' capable of storing complex directory structures with long filenames (pretty much as any Linux filesystem does), or are there some inherent limitations?

Supposing the ISO format is not constrained, which command would allow me to create an ISO file out of a directory?

General :: Create A New Terminal Window From The Command Line In RHEL 5.3

May 18, 2011

I use putty to get to my RHEL 5.3 workstation from my Windows laptop.

Typically, if I want a new terminal on my windows 7 workstation from another terminal or mc, I have to type start and I will see a new terminal window running the default shell.

QUESTION : What is the equivalent command in RHEL 5.3 (and or solaris) to create a new terminal window from the command line ? I will be entering this command from the shell prompt or mc's command line.

In Windows, if I want to start another terminal and in that terminal, I want to run a program, I can do "start program.exe arg1 arg2". this will create a new terminal window and runs program.exe in that terminal window. I don't have to create a terminal and then in a separate step run the program. How can I do this in Linux ?

General :: Create A *one* Line Command That, Using Tar, Will Collect The Full /usr/local Directory?

Oct 6, 2010

I am currently interning at a place and my job is to essentially learn UNIX. My supervisor gives me problems here and there to help guide me with my learning but for the most part I'm doing this all by self-teaching myself. Needless to say I have run into a few obstacles...for instance-Create a *one* line command that, using tar, will collect the full /usr/local directory (you need to run this as root again) and copy the whole /usr/local structure under /optFor example /usr/local/bin/hello will become /opt/local/bin/hello, etc. I want this as follows:1. /usr/local is collected by tar, but the output of this tar command is its stdout.. what you get from the previous stdout, you compress with gzip and send it to stdout again 3. get this output and decompress with gzip.. get this output and pipe to tar in a way that will extract the tree under /opt.If anyone knows how I could go about doing this, please let me know, or at the very least point me in the right direction. What I've got so far (which could be completely wrong) is:tar cvf - usr/local/ | gzip -c - | gunzip -c - | tar xvf -in theory I feel like this should work (except for extracting the tree under /opt...i'm kinda stuck there)

Then I can't write to it because I have no permission to do that.
