OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Mkv In Smplayer Freezes Video While Scrolling - In Vlc No Video At All

Apr 1, 2011

OpenSUSE 11.1, 64 bit, 2 cores, intel graphics, 4 GB of RAM:_no_ problems

OpenSUSE 11.4, 64 bit, 4 cores, nvidia graphics, 16 GB of RAM:

Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:

* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound

* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward

I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Flash Player Video / Audio Synchronization - OpenSUSE 11.4

Mar 23, 2011

I'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.

I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.

OpenSUSE Network :: Skype 2.2 On OpenSUSE 11.4 Mic And Video Not Working / Get That?

Aug 28, 2011

I have a fresh install of openSUSE 11.4 with KDE. This includes ALSA and Pulseaudio.

I have a mic and speakers and a webcam. As far as I can see microphone and sound reproduction work, the webcam also works:
- I can arecord and aplay
- KMix works
- amixer and alsamixer work (I am using microphone boost)
- test sounds play
- the webcam works in "Personal Settings (Configure Desktop)": Hardware > Multimedia > Phonon (test camera)
- Pidgin and Empathy work with sound and video.
(had to set this: gconftool-2 --set --type=string /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosrc pulsesrc,
without this setting it was set to alsasrc by default and Pidgin and Empathy didn't work).

I installed Skype 2.2 (also tried 2.1) and tested the video camera in Skype. Result: doesn't work.
I made a test call: I hear the voice of the lady answering the call, but my own voice is not recorded.
In Skype everything is set to use Pulseaudio.

I am at a total loss to understand what is going wrong here. Why does Skype not work, when everything else does??

I made this observation:
When an application records something, a "Capture stream" shows up in the KMix "Capture Streams" tab. For example, when I use arecord, "ALSA capture" shows up, while I record. When I make a call on Empathy, a capture stream shows up in the said tab.

When I make a Skype call, NO capture stream shows up, so obviously Skype is not capturing anything.

OpenSUSE :: Video Thumbnails In Nautilus

Sep 13, 2009

I tried to search about this from google and opensuse forums but didn't find any help, so I'm starting this topic.I just updated to OpenSUSE 11.1 with newest gnome and default kernel. The problem is, I don't have video thumbnails any more in nautilus. If I recall correctly, in 11.0 I had them with totem-xine, but now I can't find it in any repos. Added some additional repositories, but still nothing.

If there is not totem-xine available, how to get video thumbnails, I mean like generating automatically every time I open a folder with video files in it.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Where Has X11-video-nvidia Gone

Jul 28, 2010

I had been running 10.1 or there abouts and decided to move to 11.3. I did an upgrade and all was well. I got my XFi sound card working, I added the nvidia repositry and up came the x11-video-nvidia file which I installed and the graphics card worked. How easy is this I thought.

I then got frustrated with KDE and the need to click a million times whenever you want to load a program and the fact you have to click right then left to find things, (how silly is that). Also I was struggling to get my Nova-T DVB-T card working. So I did a new install. I formatted root (having saved my data) then installed 11.3 with gnome.

When I came to install the nvidia driver it said it could find the G01 and G02 versions but there was no sight of the legacy driver that I need for my Geforce4-4200. (I know I should buy a new machine).

So in desperation I did another new install and this time put KDE back on as my WM. However yast software install is saying the same thing that G01 and G02 are available but the legacy one is not.

Could it just be bad luck that nvidia stopped supporting it last night? I have gone through the one click process but it was again failing to find x11-video-nvidia

I have gone through the posts and done the nomodeset and changed the /etc/modprobe.d/menu.lst, I have added the correct repositries etc. Before I do the run level 3 thing does anyone have an obvious fix.

OpenSUSE Install :: No Video After 11.4 Installation?

Aug 6, 2011

My issue is after having good video during installation of 11.4 Opensuse, I have bad video after installation. When 11.4 restarts I have an unreadable video pattern which renders the rest of the installation useless. It's strange that 11.4 loads the images at boot and installs with good video, but an unreadable video after installation. My previous installations of 11.4 have been flawless. On this system I'm using a Biostar MCP61 system board, AMD Athlon CPU dual core 64, on-board video(Nvidia), 1 TB hard drive, and an analog Viewsonic VA721 17inch LCD monitor.

I had Opensuse 11.1 running well on this system before I attempted an upgrade to 11.4. I tried, at initial install of 11.4, to adjust the resolution down to 1024*768 which had no effect on the installation. Then I entered "vga=0x31a" as a booting command at initial install with no good effect. After several install attempts with different configs I still get no viewable image on the display.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No Audio With Video?

Aug 5, 2010

after installing opensuse 11.3 i am finding that i cannot recieve any audio with video with any application.

i can hear certain types of audio, it seems any audio that is not attached to video. i can hear the welcome chime through my speakers after i log in to opensuse and i can also listen to .mp3 files played with amarok. i can watch videos with multiple players, videos videos etc., but there is no audio happening with the video.

i am thinking now this may actually be a hardware problem, since it seems to persist with different software, and only with audio attached to video. i'm thinking maybe there is a problem with my graphics card and its driver (or a lackthereof), although i'm unsure of why i can still watch video. i don't receive any error messages or anything, nor have i attempted to manually install any drivers for my existing hardware. i tried cranking every volume control i could find, including the system volume, but still no volume with video (its weird, its like i can hear it a tiny bit when i crank it, perhaps this is just the internal system beep speaker trying to fill in for the gfx card?).

the card i'm currently using is an nvidia card and although its not exactly old, i have read about some problems with nvidia being reluctant to produce drivers for linux in the past. after some brief googling of nvidia and linux, i was surprised to see that nvidia has an entire portion of their site devoted to unix/linux and open source drivers (perhaps they're doing better now).

is there any way that i can troubleshoot this problem, or do you think the solution is simply purchasing another graphics card from a vendor that has a good reputation for linux support?

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: HD Video Consumes 100% Cpu But Not In XP?

Oct 6, 2010

I am using the rather old openSUSE 11.0 with no plans of upgrading to 11.3 as of now. My system is also 5+ years with a P4 2.66GHz but with 2.5Gb ram. HD videos are utilizing 100% cpu and the video also keeps shaking. Neither does any other app work during this time. I cannot even stop the player. I've tried mplayer, smplayer, vlc, totem, gnome-player --- all with the same result.

But windows XP utilizes about 60% cpu and so no such problems. I also have ubuntu 7.10 installed and even mplayer here uses 100% cpu. Also not a troublesome issue but XP has higher volume.
