OpenSUSE Network :: .Xauthority In NFS/NIS-Environments - X-Forwarding Doesn't Work?

Mar 26, 2010

we have here a few openSUSE-machines (some 11.1 and 11.2) which mounts their /home from a NFS-Server and imports the users via NIS. I now wanted to use X-Forwarding via SSH, but that doesn't work with NIS-Users.On my machine I use Gnome and my XAUTHORITY-Variable points to /var/run/gdm/auth-for-bup_deg-E3TMSz/database

Why isn't the default ~/.Xauthority-File used for my cookies? What do I have to change to get X-Forwarding in my Setup running?

OpenSUSE Network :: X11 Forwarding - Windows Client Works But It's Doesn't - Cannot Connect To X Server

Jan 20, 2010

I have x11 forwarding enabled in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on a suse 11.2 32 bit box running kde I can open x apps on a windows machine using xming and putty just fine, but when I boot the same machine into suse 11.2 64 bit using kde and try using konsole I get: cannot connect to x server

The command I'm using to log in is: ssh -X -l username host I doubt the problem is with the server I'm logging into or it wouldn't work in windows, not really sure what to look for as I've never had a problem using x11 forwarding from a linux client before only windows ones

Networking :: IP Forwarding /NAT Doesn't Work After System Update?

I checked /var/log/message, dmesg ... seems nothing there.

OpenSUSE :: Network Reconnection After Disconnect Doesn't Work?

Apr 2, 2010

The main thing preventing me from going Linux although I have it installed in a multi-boot is the probelm I have with Reconnecting the Network (eth0)

If I reboot everything is fine and I am automatically connected to internet via my Ethernet_NAT_router/Homeplug_PowerLine/Cable_Router (using DHCP)

But if I manually disconnect the Network using the tray icon, or through the terminal, when I reconnect the Network Manager says I am reconnected but actually I am not connected to the internet. I can load my Cable Routers configuration page but pages beyond that in the outside world are accessible no longer...

To regain access I have to reboot.

The reason this is important for me is that I reckon if I could get this sorted then if I put the laptop to sleep it will will wake up and reconnect.

As it is using Linux sleep function is unworkable unless I don't mind losing internet.

I am determined to get this sorted eventually as I feel sure there must be a solution. My laptop isn't new but is a good workhorse.

Dell Inspiron 4100 / OpenSUSE Linux 11.2 Gnome

OpenSUSE Network :: Why To Need IP6 Enabled For X11 Forwarding

Apr 21, 2011

I was setting up a new 11.4 system and disabled ip6 as we don't use it. After that I couldn't get X11 forwarding working. After searching around for a while, I found this topic [URL] ssh-x11-forwarding.html which at the end mentions enabling ip6. Magically, after doing that and rebooting I can now do X11 forwarding again. Just seems strange that IP6 is needed for X11 forwarding.

OpenSUSE Network :: Ip-forwarding After Migration To Suse-11.2?

Jan 12, 2010

Ethernet configuration:
- eth0 private net
- eth1 internet

eth1 is connected to a cable modem and uses dhcp. After migrating to suse-11.2 ip-forwarding (once the system is up and running) is sometimes deactivated and i have no clue why. /etc/syslog.conf has an entry net.ipv4.ip_forwarding = 1

i have modified the SuSE-scripts /sbin/SuSEfirewall /sbin/ifup-dhcp /etc/init.d/SuSEfirewall2_setup to make sure each time my firewall-rules are loaded ip-forwarding is explicitly enabled. This worked perfectly with suse-11.0. Now ip-forwarding is enabled after a system reboot or after one of the above scripts is called, but somewhere somehow ip-forwarding is always deactivated and i have no idea how this happens. This may happen after 5 minutes or after 5 hours. As a workaround i created a cronjob running every 5 minutes issuing a sysctl-command to enable ip-forwarding.

Problem: suse firewall will only port forward connections from one of the DSL connections and not the other.

Because I'm running two DSL connections is there something special I have to turn on/enable on the firewall?

I did not change any configuration in the ADSL router but now I could not get the smiley icon to go green. I followed all the steps given here: A Quick Bittorrent Guide (with screenshots). It doesn't work. so I modified FW_ROUTE and FW_MASQUERADE to yes in /etc/sysconfig/SuSefirewall2. That also does not work. What did I miss here? My ADSL router is DSL-2640T.

Now the server still doesn't work and when I try browsing to any of the sites on it all I see is a page that says "No database selected" for any sites using databases. For static sites I get a 404 error. I broke rule #1 and didn't have back-up configuration files so now I'm stuck. What could the Yast module have done to my configuration files? I have restarted apache several times and even re-booted the computer.

So i guess its some kind of DNS problem, but i'm very new with ubuntu and also not so good with computers. Our network is simple just an modem connected to an router: Sitecome WL-341.

Ubuntu :: Network Printer Doesn't Work After Upgrading To 10.04

Nov 8, 2010

I have recently upgraded to 10.04 and subsequently to 10.10. I have a network printer Lexmark C530dn. Before the upgrade to 10.04 it work OK. After the upgrade i have this problem: When i print something it goes right to completed jobs, without an error and without printing. My user is allowed to print, I checked that.

this is from the access log:
localhost - - [08/Nov/2010:20:38:58 +0100] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 253 Create-Printer-Subscription successful-ok
localhost - - [08/Nov/2010:20:39:10 +0100] "POST /printers/Lexmark-C530 HTTP/1.1" 200 205765 Print-Job successful-ok

When i print the self-test page, it prints fine, so I assume the problem's in the system rather than the printer.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network Sometimes Doesn't Work

Feb 14, 2011

what is the command to restart the network services? ive forgotten i think it uses -hup switch though. about 1 in 20 boots on my desktop ubuntu system results in the system insisting its no longer on a network yet has a fully functioning network card. a reboot always fixes the issue but that doesnt seem like a long term solution to me. If I ping a neighbouring system I get nothing. (sent packet count increases in ifconfig) If I ping from a neighbouring system back to my desktop I get nothing (no change in packet count) I can bring down and back up the network interface with no results. A sniffer shows the system definitely isnt sending anything out Everything worked previous boot and will work again after a reboot.

OpenSUSE Network :: KNetworkmanager Connects But Doesn't Show Network

I like the new System Settings where the advanced tab is gone and everything is presented in a single window.

The only snag I have hit so far, is that Knetworkmanager no longer displays the network that I am connected to when I right click its icon in the tray. The screenshot may make clear what I am talking about.I am currently connected via a wireless network, which nm-tool confirms. However, it is not shown in the Knetworkmanager menu.
