OpenSUSE Network :: SMTP - No Route To Host

Jan 3, 2010

OpenSUSE version: 11.2 *and* 10.0 I am unable to send email. It appears I am being blocked by my ISP [URL]... A Wireshark trace shows ICMP type 3 Code 13 - "Administratively filtered". It's important to note that I don't know exactly when the problem started, because I seldom use my ISP email account, I use Yahoo web mail due to the "throwaway" nature if I get hit with spam. I only discovered the problem when testing the functionality of 11.2. I suspect the problem started several months ago: I restored openSUSE 10.0 and the problem exists there too. I wish I'd sent that last email via 10.0 before the upgrade.

The weird thing is that using Windows 2000 box I can get a successful connection using telnet (Telnet also fails on the openSUSE box.) It appears to me there is something in the Linux TCP stack that Teksavvy doesn't like. I am on dial up and I pointed this out to Teksavvy tech support, as I am probably the only person left on dialup and the reason no one else has reported the problem

Networking :: Configure A Network Route To A Host For Testing Network Interface?

Aug 30, 2010

today I tried to configure a network route to a host for testing my network interface. Code: route add 192.168.1.15 eth0 As I have to eth interfaces and both interface got their IP from DHCP (192.168.1.11 and 192.168.1.12) and are in the same subnet, I shut the other interface down:

Code: ifconfig eth1 down Then I tried to test the interface by doing a ping to 192.168.1.15.
Problem: When I unplug the cable from eth0 (and eth1 is still plugged) the ping still works. Somehow my linux (it's debian) powers up again eth0 and pings over this port.

How can I stop my linux doing this. I just want to have the route added only on the one interface - not the other. Is it maybe some case of a default-gateway?

Yesterday I installed a RaLink RT2800 802.11n PCI on my squeeze system. Now I have a connection to Internet but I can not connect other systems in my home network. An ssh-try to a system in my home network results in: ssh: connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22: No route to host If I use my eth0, I do not have connection to Internet, but I can connect other systems in my home network.

Ubuntu Servers :: How To Route SMTP Port 25 Through VPN

Nov 13, 2010

I have a server set up with a VPN (openVPN with DynDNS). My emails are located there and I can check them from home, office, where ever really, with different computers, no problem.However, due to restrictions of some ISPs I would have to change the SMTP server used, depending on where I am with my laptop.

Now, I thought about using the VPN to also tunnel the SMTP traffic through that. But how am I doing that?So far, when I'm connected to via VPN I simply have a local (from the server point of view) IP address to connect to my IMAP server. But how can I route the SMTP port 25 through the VPN?Is that possible to do, also in a way that I don't have to change anything depending on where I am, as in within the network of the server or outside? Since when I'm within the network the VPN obviously isn't connecting..

OpenSUSE Network :: Verizon 3G - No Default Route Being Set?

Dec 5, 2009

I've been seeing a bunch of issues with the /etc/resolv.conf not picking up the nameservers for 3g connections, and managed to fix that issue using tips found here.. the one thing I m having a problwm with is my 3G USB modem not picking up a default route/gateway. I can connect using KNetworkManager, get an IP and nameservers, but.

And to top it all off, I cannot figure out what the default gateway should be from verizon to just write a script out myself that'll do it automatically.

OpenSUSE Network :: Blocking SMTP On Firewall?

Aug 19, 2010

Ok here's my setup :

SuSE 10.0 X86 32 acting as my internet gateway and firewall.

eth0 is my internal interface network 192.168.0.0/24 IP 192.168.0.254 dsl0 is my internet connection and is a single ip PtP connection to my ISP.

My internal network is masquaraded onto the external network.

I run an smtp server on my gateway box that I need to be accessable to both the internal and external networks.

However I want to prevent machines on the internal network from establishing connections to external smtp servers, but still alow them to connect to the smtp server on the gateway to send email.

NOTE I do not want to force attempts to connect to [URL] 25 to be re-directed to my internal server I just want to drop or reject the connection.

The firewall up until now has just been configured through YaST, but am not afraid to edit script files if needed

The reason for doing this it to prevent spambots from being able to send through my isp, I keep my own machines clean but sometimes get asked to disinfect machines for other people (family members etc), where I need to connect to the outside world to get updates/virus defs etc, but don't want them spamming from my network.

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Access The Smtp Servers

May 22, 2011

It seems I can't access smpt servers both from kmail and php. Kmail says

Code:

The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.The following transport was used: ... I double checked my settings and they are correct. I can ping smtp.gmail.com. I can send emails using thunderbird on a windows box that is connected to the same network as I am.I also tried turning off the firewall through yast but no joy.

OpenSUSE Network :: How To Avoid Typing Route Add Default GW

Jan 14, 2010

I have a static ip on my wired (eth0) connection. I thought I had it well set up in yast. In the routing section I do have my default gw coming up there, with the the right nw i/f (eth0) associate with it. However, when I boot up, y config seems to ignore that fact, and I have to keep goign to root and typing "route add default gw <mygwip>" each time, which is something I want to avoid. Isn't it odd that the route settings created by yast have no effect? If they did, the route would be set up on bootup and I would haven't to do that typing.

OpenSUSE Network :: NetworkManager Deletes Default Route

When I now add the route manually it works. But as soon as the cable is plugged in, the NetworkManager overwrites the routing table entry again (which makes it quite annoying). Does anyone know a way to avoid this behaviour?

Red Hat :: Sendmail No Route To Host

Jan 15, 2010

I have two machines: A.domain.com: (Old mail server): Red Hat 9 (Linux 2.4.20-30.9) B.domain.com: (New mail server): RHEL Client 5 (2.6.18-164.2.1.el5) (Both machines are in the same subnet and on the same switch). I wanted to test the new mail server by sending an E-mail message to it from the old one, but the maillog says

[code]...

I can ping from A.domain.com to B.domain.com and from B.domain.com to A.domain.com . I can traceroute -p 25 from A.domain.com to B.domain.com and from B.domain.com to A.domain.com. I can *telnet* on port 25 from B.domain.com to A.domain.com. BUT when I telnet on port 25 from A.domain.com to B.domain.com. I get "telnet: connect to address x.x.x.x: No route to host". The resolved IP x.x.x.x is correct by the way. So I see no reason why. it should fail to telnet on port 25 to A.domain.com.

OpenSUSE Network :: Specifying Smtp Relay On Commandline Of Mail Command?

Aug 9, 2011

On my opensuse 11.4 box (although I assume the version is irrelevant), I'm trying to figure out how to do something with the mail command. We have multiple smtp relay servers and sometimes I have to test to verify that mail is bouncing off of them successfully. On my laptop, in my main.cf file for postfix, I've got the relay server listed. But to test multiple servers, I have to change the main.cf, restart postfix, send message, and then repeat for each test.

I'm trying to figure out a way to specify the smtp relay on the command line. I've been playing with the -S option which is supposed to allow variables and one of the variables in the man page is 'smtp'. I've tried several different syntaxes but nothing seems to work.

The closest I've come is:
mail -S smtp 10.1.0.63 -s "test" user@email.com < main.cf

That syntax doesn't give me an error but it still routes the message off the smtp server listed in main.cf which is not 10.1.0.63.

If i start my box, the routing table has the "default route"-entry offered by a remote DHCP-Server. More Info: My Susebox has eth0 and eth1 and both network devices should use DHCP4. But from DHCP-offer on eth0 i want to use

* "offered IP-Adress for eth0"
* "offered NTP-Server"
* "offered Host-Name"

From DHCP-offer on the eth1 i want to use

* "offered IP-Adress for eth1"
* "offered DNS-Servers"
* "offered Default Route"

Fedora Networking :: No Route To Host Using Showmount On 12?

Feb 14, 2010

I have two system, an Intel Core2 Duo system running the 32-bit version of Fedora 12, and a MacBook Pro running the 64-bit version of Fedora 12. I'm using the Gnome desktop on each system. I have enabled all the services I believe are necessary to support NFS including nfs, rpcbind, rpcgssd, rpcidmapd, and rpcsvcgssd on each system. I have added an entry to my /etc/exports file to export my home on each system, and if I type this command:

$ showmount -e localhost

I get a result like this:

Export list for localhost:

/home/tron 192.168.200.101,192.168.200.100

However when I issue this type of command:

$ showmount -e <remote host name>

I get this kind of result: rpc mount export: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = No route to host Research on the Internet indicates this is usually due to a firewall problem. However, I use the Firewall Configuration application to the disable the firewall on both systems, and I continue to get the same result. What is needed so I can get this two machines to display their exported file shares remotely? It turns out I did not disable the firewall when I thought I had. Now that I'm certain the firewall is disabled on both systems, I'm able to get the showmount command to succeed.
