OpenSUSE :: Lost Firefox KDE Integration?

Jan 26, 2010

I install Firefox 3.6 from the mozilla/openSUSE_11.2 repo, but F6 didn't work; so, I tried uninstalling it and installing Firefox proper. Of course, none of the KDE integration worked with that; so, I am back at the normal repo's Firefox but no KDE integration (same with Thunderbird). I do have MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE, MozillaFirefox-theme-oxygen, and mozilla-xulrunner191-kde4 installed.

So, how would I regress to using 5.2x on Ubuntu?

OpenSUSE :: Did Gnome Integration Change Between SLED 11.1 And 11.2?

Apr 27, 2010

apps that ran and installed just fine under 11.1 don't (seem to) under 11.2.I was running Gnome under 11.1, and have used the same desktop as I moved to 11.2.For example, I was able to install and run the Novell Support Advisor 1.1 under SLED 11.1 just fine. I would need to authenticate as root before the app would run, but it would run just fine. After I upgraded from SLED 11.1 to 11.2, things just don't seem to be as stable. NSA (and other apps) seem to install, but their icons don't appear in the applications folder, and when I login su and then attempt to run, the terminal window usually hangs.

I can't get a CIFS client to install (I see it in the list of installed apps, but it's not present under YAST).Banshee was a beautiful app under 11.1, but I feel like I spend more time working around it's glitches in 11.2 rather than setting it to play and enjoying it's usefulness. The Novell Client (yes, I know, it's not officially supported under 11.2) has caused me enough heartache that I VNC an XP box just to get to files. So anyway, enough whining, what can/should I do to work through these issues? Should I just give up and go back to 11.1? Is it better to burn and re-build rather than upgrade per the OpenSUSE docs? Is there some "magic" log files folder (other than availble via YAST) to see where error messages are occurring so I can troubleshoot the issues better?

OpenSUSE :: VLC Integration In 11.4 - Cannot Drag And Drop Files

Mar 12, 2011

With a default 11.4 (64bit) installation with Gnome - and using the 11.4 one click installer on
VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS! - the 11.3 integration seems to have worked better.

The first issue is that it's no longer automatically integrated into the right click context menu of movie files.

This integration happened in 11.3.

The second, which I think is user error but I really cannot get it to work is dragging and dropping files does not work.

-> Open Nautilus
-> Navigate to folder with movie files
-> Open VLC
-> Click on a file in Nautilus and try and drag it onto VLC

The VLC is hidden during the file click and drag, so a drag to the bottom panel is required to try and activate VLC - however, VLC is never activated. I have tried different positions on screen but still over the VLC entry to try and activate it, but nothing happens.

This same sequence on 11.3 correctly activates VLC so I can drag and drop.

A workaround on 11.4 is to make VLC "Always on top" via the right click menu on the VLC title bar.

OpenSUSE :: Where Has Php5-imagick Gone

Oct 13, 2010

I used to run Apache + PHP5 + MySQL + ImageMagick locally, as a testing server for a project I'm working on. A while ago I updated a few things, with the php5-imagick library not matching dependency version numbers anymore. I decided to ignore it, since there was no update for the library. I have been without an internet connection in the meantime, but php5-imagick didn't work anymore at all. It didn't return any errors, but it simply didn't modify anything about the pictures anymore. A few minutes ago I decided to manually uninstall and reinstall the php5-imagick package.Uninstalling went fine. But when I wanted to reinstall it, the package was nowhere to be found! A quick Google search turned up no relevant results.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Can't Get KDE 4 Audiocd Integration To Work With MP3 / Solve This?

Mar 7, 2010

I have followed the posted instructions on the "restricted formats" as specified in the stickie on the forum.

When I insert an audio CD, I can see the mp3/ folder in KDE with the tracks on the CD, but whenever I try to copy one of the mp3 files from the folder I get a VERY wide error messagebox stating that lame threw an error.

[When I use the command line tool "ripit" - the mp3s are generated without problems, so I assume all my encoders are working.]

Copying an ogg file with the KDE audiocd integration works fine, but unfortunately ogg is not supported on an iPod, and since ripping CDs through a VM with iTunes takes forever and a day, I want to rip the mp3 files and then copy to the VM so I can use iTunes to sync them to the iPod (sigh).

And yes, I would prefer to use Amarok to sync to the iPod directly but I made the mistake of buying an iPod recently and I've found that the 5/6th gens don't work (and probably never will) due to the hash encryption.

OpenSUSE :: PHP5 Soap Extension Not Loading?

Feb 10, 2011

I have no hair any longer on the sides of my head... after trying to deal with this problem. I have installed apache2 on a SuSE 11.3 box, with php5, php-pear, php-gd, etc, and I cannot get php-soap to get recognized. Do I need to see the soap.[URL]..When I run an installation wizard for the web app I am planning to host, and it says that there is no soap installed. When I place soap php-soap php5-soap in the APACHE_MODULES of /etc/sysconfig/apache2 (just to make sure at least one is the right name) and restart apache2 I get error messages that say, soap (or php-soap, or php5-soap) is not installed, so its being ignored. When I run my phpinfo.php script, I see PHP is working, and soap is one of the successful modules (!?).

So, why can't apache see soap? I can find my within /usr/lib/php5/extensions/ (how would I successfully load that into Apache, when it starts? I have been using yum, so I went to yast, and installed php-soap again. restarted apache, and still no success.

Now, I am trying to run the installwizard.php to install this LAMP app and any php file, seems to just download, instead of 'resolve to the screen' in the browser. When I run chkconfig, and see that apache and mysql are running. I have already restarted apache, and it seems to come up okay. I have created a test index.html file, and seems to be loading fine. I have googled for this, and it doesn't seem to happen to anyone else! when I try to yum install php, it says that version php5-5.3.2-1.31.i586 is already installed.

I am using yum, on the command line. Permissions are:

My current nginx.conf file is this (Stripped comments):

What happens is: when I type a php url to address bar, I only get a text saying "No input file specified." This is what I get when I make netcat sit on 9000, and go for <hostname>/phpinfo.php:

There are clearly some config problems here, but can't find out what are they, since this is first time I try to setup nginx and fastcgi.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.4 PHP5 Interactive Readline Not Working?

I just installed openSuse for the first time the other day. I'm trying to get my web development tools up and going and I've hit a little snag. After installing php5 I tried to use interactive mode on the command line (php -a) but I didn't get the nice line-edit-capable prompt I'm used to. A little research told me I needed to install readline support, so I installed the php5 readline package. The thing is even though `php -m` now shows the readline module is loaded I still don't get the line-edit support

OpenSUSE :: PHP Startup: Unable To Load Dynamic Library '/usr/lib/php5/extensions/'

Aug 20, 2011

few days ago i installed the newest opensuse 11.4 32bit system and all is working really fine.except when starting apache or doing a php -v on the CLI i receive the following error ->

php -v
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library
'/usr/lib/php5/extensions/' - /usr/lib/php5/extensions/
undefined symbol: grapheme_extract_count_iter in Unknown on line 0

i know this bug has been reported earlier and i found quite a few results in google.i even found one result where the problem was fixed and updated in an additional opensuse repository -> Additional package repositories - openSUSE the repository with the fix is the following -> Index of /repositories/server:/php/openSUSE_11.4 so ... i added this repository via YAST to the repositories in my system without any problems but whenever i do a system update via YAST i don't receive new fixes and patches from the newly added repository!

if i directly browse to the /i586 folder in the repository i see all the PHP updates with version 5.3.7 and the latest updates were done 19 aug 2011 Index of /repositories/server:/php/openSUSE_11.4/i586 but my system still has PHP version 5.3.5 installed and somehow doesn't want to update from the newly added repository for the apache php modules so ... i just double checked and the repository is enabled in YAST ... but I still don't receive updates from there i would like to update to the new apache php modules, to get rid of that php '/usr/lib/php5/extensions/' warning, but somehow that doesn't seem to work

Ubuntu :: Icons In Firefox's Menus Have Gone Missing?

May 5, 2010

ubuntu 10.04, ff 3.6.3 with some addons installed.

how to reproduce:
open firefox, download and install some plugins/addons that generate menu entries with an icon in front of them.
e.g. "downthemall" (down them all)

there is however space for these icons in the menu. and I can see icons in the bookmark and history menus. (web page favicons)

these icons improve the usability greatly because they offer a visual guide to the menu not only to the item they belong to but also to other items because I know that the item I want is e.g. one above the green triangle.

I have a slightly impaired vision so this a far greater issue to me than you well sighted folks may think. Just put on some glasses with lots of fingerprints on them and you will see the difference.
