OpenSUSE :: Kmail To Firefox - Url Is Linked To Temp Cache Files

Aug 30, 2011

I'm using Opensuse11.4 and have kmail and Firefox. When I click a url: link in kmail it opens a new tab in Firefox. The problem is that the url is linked to my temp cache files as this file:///var/tmp/kdecache-terry/krun/1589.0.ctt

The tab this opens has most of the link icons stripped out and the links to other parts of the website don't work and I get a "file not found" error and the link is to a file which doesn't exist file:///contribute.php3

This is only a minor annoyance as I can right click > copy the url and paste it to the address bar in Firefox then it works ok. I don't think it anything in either programme that's broken because this happened after an update to Opensuse 11.4 on my previous laptop and has happened again on my new laptop with a fresh install.

General :: How To Have A Mix Of Linked And Not Linked Files Without Linking Every File

Feb 20, 2010

I've got a shared (Windows/multiuser Linux) laptop, and I've got installed World of Warcraft and some steam games in Windows. With steam games, there is (almost) no problems. I've installed steam in Linux, and soft linked the 'steamapps' directory (per-game compatibility is another issue). With WoW, the problem is different. I would like to have almost (but not) all files. Under World of Warcraft, every file and directory must be linked except the Interface directory and WTF/ file (so every user can play with their own settings and addons). How can I have a mix of linked and not linked files without linking every file? If I link manually every file/dir, when updating from Linux other users and Windows Wow is not updated; when updating from Windows, new files remains "unlinked".

Is there any more sofisticated way around than changing parition sizes and copying and stuff?

Ubuntu :: Moving Cache And Temp Directories To Ramdrive?

Mar 17, 2011

I just got myself a OCZ vertex 2 SSD and have been moving cache directories to a ram drive to try to help extend the life of my SSD and improve system performance. I have created a ram drive /tmp directory in fstab like soCode: tmpfs /tmp tmpfsnodev,nosuid,noexec,mode=1777 0 0 And have since moved my Firefox temporary files to the /tmp directory and it have gotten me thinking, what else can I move here. I am going to upgrade my computer to have 8gbs of ram which is way more than Ill ever need.I would like to move the transmission cache dir there but I dont know how to. Anyone have any tips on that? I was thinking of maybe a script that will run when I login to create a symbolic link?

OpenSUSE Network :: Firefox - Kmail Not Connecting Through Wireless

Apr 22, 2010

I've spent 29 hours trying to figure this out. And I'm about to blow my brains out. Fresh install 11.2. - 64bit but tried 32 bit and same thing. Dell studio 1734. Broadcom wireless and wired. Installed broadcom drivers (b43) through yast. Wired eth0 works. Wireless eth1 works. Surf with Firefox fine. BUT. Kmail will not connect through wireless. Nor can I access repositories through wireless.

Tried blacklisting B43 in ssb no change. What in the hell is going on? I've searched forum after forum and tried everything and CANNOT make this happen.

OpenSUSE :: Where Are Temp Files Stored In 11.0

Dec 7, 2009

I am trying to find all of those videos and .jpgs and other miscellaneous files I've downloaded in the past, and which are now only taking up space on my hard drive. I'd like to clean out all of that. I have looked in both /tmp and in /.kde but don't see what I'm looking for.

OpenSUSE :: Firefox 4 B12 No Cache Dir Setting

Mar 19, 2011

I thought about moving the firefox cache directory to /tmp, as I am moving /tmp to the ram, since I just got an SSD, and move off this write-hungry feature. However, with Firefox 4 beta 12 (shipping with 11.4 x86_64), when I get in about:config, there is just no option browser.cache.disk.parent_directory, which you would use to configure this.I searched a bit and it seems that this is still intended to be on Firefox in v.4.I might as well downgrade to 3.x for the moment. I see there is an RC available of v.4, but no package of it ready in repos.By the way, any thoughts on putting the firefox cache on ram? I know it will flush it at reboot! But the alternatives are:

-leave it on ssd (wear it)
-put it on hdd (so slow)
-disable cache

Is there a way to speed up and complete the process so that I can login and start using openSUSE? I did try hitting the spacebar and moving the mouse but nothing happens.

I have turned on my laptop today and kmail has simply disappeared. I have gone through the ghekko and the only mail client listed is thunderbird. It is not in the alt+F2 menu. If I type kmail in konsole I get the "if kmail is not a typo" speech. I've also tried using kontact (for the first time) to see if my mail appears there

General :: Listing All Linked Files

Jan 21, 2010

I can't seem to find a way to do this, so maybe it's not actually possible, but I was wondering if there was a way to list all files that link to a file.

For example.

touch a
ln a b
ln a c

I want to find out what files link to a (not symlinks, mind you), assuming that this is more complicated (they are spread around to different directories).

I kind of understand about the filesystem storing links in one area and data in another, so I understand it probably takes more work to find a link from a file location than the other way around.

Ubuntu :: Possible? /temp/www/fake/ Contents (directory) Avaliable Through /temp/www/?

Dec 20, 2010

I have a web server whos DocumentRoot is:/tmp/wwwNow, /temp/www/fake/ is a directory that contains a series of other files/folders.What I want to do is access the files in /temp/www/fake as if they were in the root directory (/temp/www/)For example:

could either be located in "/temp/www/test.php"
located in "/temp/www/fake/test.php"

so "" would essentially call both directories. Is this possible? Whould I do this through apache or through the actual file system somehow? (Like some sort of symbolic link?) I would love to hear your input.

Programming :: Create/delete Temp/backup Files Through A Shell Script?

Dec 31, 2008

I have a shell script that need to create some files:

1) backup files of user passed in file ( that will be written by this shell ).

2) temp files that the shell will create and later delete/remove.

This shell script will be used from my local dir ( I am not a super or a sysadmin ). Users of this shell will call this script to run on their local files in their respective directories. When my script runs, it errors with the following:

cp: cannot create regular file `./listfile.txt.backup': Permission denied
/home/myUser/tools/myShellScript: line 12: listfile.txt: Permission denied

for the temp I was able to avoid this error by creating the temp file in the /tmp directory. All I want is for this shell script to run, create/modify/backup files in user's local dirs.

The user dir has the following permission:

drwxr-xr-x testDir

the file that needs to be backed-up has:

-rw-r--r-- listfile.txt.
