OpenSUSE Install :: Respawning Too Fast - Error: "Respawning Too Fast - Disabled For 5 Min" Freeze

Dec 12, 2009

Installing 11.2 from KDE LiveCD on an IBM ThinkCenter with 3.2Gb CPU and 1Gb RAM. Ubuntu 9.04 on first two partitions. I go through the configuration, click to 'install': Install display bars remain blank. After 2-3 minutes, black screen with scroll of attempted installation pieces and the error message: "Respawning too fast. Disabled for 5 min." Freeze.

Other posts mention problem with init. But this is happening with the install so not able to address that. No apparent md5chksum for LiveCDs. No mention of this problem in installation help guide. Does anyone know how to deal with this? If you need more info, I will provide. Though it seems this is not an unusual problem when booting an installed system, there's no mention of it happening during installation.

I have spent some time reviewing the numerous posts that have this error. However, several of the other posts seem to be able to get a step farther than I can.While booting, the machine produces the following error:"INIT: ID "x" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes"Other thread posts have described being to type ctrl+c to login. However, I get hung up when I attempt to login as root:"Penguin login: root

Red Hat :: INIT - Id "a02" Respawning Too Fast; Disabled For 5 Minutes

Mar 29, 2011

My Red Hat Enterprise Server ws release 3 machine is receiving this error message.

From what I understand it is because it is failing to load a service or program so the system overrides it to prevent it from eating up my systems resources.

My question is; how do I isolate the problem process in order to fix it?

Ubuntu :: Processes Keep Respawning - Nautilus Will Not Work?

May 13, 2010

Just installed 10.04. I tried to put a trash bin on my desktop, and it completely borked my system.

I did a ctrl-F2, gconf-editor, app->nautilus->desktop, and checked trashbin visible.

After that icons kept spawning in my panel. Nautilus will start. I lost all of the icons from my desktop. I have logging out, and resetting the trashbin visibility. Nothing seems to fix the problem.

Ubuntu :: Kill Java And Prevent It From Respawning?

Jul 19, 2010

I run Freenet occasionally, but not all the time. Freenet doesn't run unless told to, but Java loads on every boot and sits there and hogs resources for no reason whatsoever. What's worse, as soon as I kill it with fire (sudo kill -9 "PID"), it respawns within seconds. How do I make Java not load unless required? And die and stay dead when I want it dead?

I Have installed openSUSE 11.3 using VMWare and liked it so I thought I would install as my main OS. So I downloaded the latest livecd Gnome and created a usb install using imagewriter with suse. I can boot to the initial menu asking if I want to boot the livecd or install. If I choose either it will begin to show a lot of things on the screen scrolling really fast and then the screen will go black. I've waiting up to about 15 minutes with no result.

Ubuntu Servers :: Permissions Error For Phpmyadmin After Change To Fast CGI (mod Fcgid)?

Nov 22, 2010

I'm still getting my head around setting things up on my web server, I've configured php to run off of Fast CGI, rather than mod_php, due to better memory consumption. I've managed to get my virtual hosts configured to work with fastcgi, ensuring the following options are set:

AddHandler fcgid-script .php
FCGIWrapper /usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5 .php
Options +ExecCGI FollowSymLinks

I tried adding those settings to /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf, but this doesn't seem to work. Whenever I go to , I just get a 403 Forbidden Error. This used to work no problems on mod_php.

[URL].. because the alias is set so that my virtual hosts can access it through /phpmyadmin. There is probably something basic I am missing here.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Switching From Window To Another Not Fast

Mar 31, 2011

I've installed OpenSUSE 11.4 / KDE on a self assembled PC based on the ASRock P4i945GC motherboard that hosts the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 which is inside the 945G Express Chipset. The graphics performance seems not so good, in fact:

- at KDE start, a message appears saying that desktop effects are slow and are being switched off;
- switching from a window to another is not fast;
- nexuiz (3D game) at 800x600 resolution with all effects turned off is orribly slow;
- glxgears runs at 50 FPS;

I made a comparison with OpenSUSE 11.2 Live KDE where:

- desktop effects are active and smooth;
- tab switching is faster;
- glxgears runs at 200 FPS;

I'm not so skilled in linux to understand which video driver is used in the two cases. find the best video driver and eventually install it in place of the current one in 11.4. Here follows an excerpt from lspci on 11.4:

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Amarok Playback Too Fast?

Nov 17, 2010

I'm having an issue with playback in Amarok 2.3 on openSUSE 11.3. When using xine, Amarok will playback songs very quickly, probably something like 3X-4X faster than it should be. There is also no audio output when it does this. Using gstreamer it plays back at normal speed, but also without audio output. I've done some searching for this problem, but haven't found anything helpful. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Below I'm listing all the multimedia/codec packages that I have installed.

I tried different mp3 files, tried different players including Amorak, DragonPlayer and Kaffeine. Didn't try other types of multimedia files though.

The fact that flashes work well on Firefox may prove that sound card is all right.

However after about a month of use browsing the web has really slowed down bad. It doesn't seem to matter if it's in Firefox or Chrome either. I am using a wireless connection that is getting the signal at 85-95%. Even though I still tried using a direct cat-5 connection to the router and it was still slow as well. I have the fastest broadband connection my cable offers and my windows boxes on the same network are still flying.

Ubuntu :: Few Errors But It Went By So Fast Could Only Read The "error" Part?

Jul 14, 2011

so what i did first was obviously use wubi to download and install ubuntu. after a 14 minute download, i was finally ready to proceed with the installation. i was excited, however, little did i know the installation would soon be a complete train wreck with little children i am, sitting down, rebooting my LAPTOP computer (Acer Aspire 5336, Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU - 900 @ 2.20 GHz 2.19 GHz, 3.00GB RAM, 64-bit operating system -- bought it at walmart because my desktop is still at my parent's house),and then i choose to boot up ubuntu instead of windows 7. everything looks like it goes fine so far.

there were a few errors but it went by so fast i could only read the "error" part. i wait for the installation thingy to show, but it doesn't! the screen goes completely blank after a few more words show up and disappear all in a blink of an eye, so i wait a very long time. it shows a purple screen, and asks me to choose a boot thing or w/e. i choose linux (there were other options like windows 7, linux recovery, i forgot the rest), then it just restarts the computer and i choose ubuntu and it does it again, however it never shows the purple screen!

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Network Management Disabled After Freeze?

Aug 18, 2010

I just switched to opensuse from fedora. So far, I like it a lot (KDE FTW). However, I am having a couple issues concerning hibernation and restarting.Whenever I merely close my computer but don't shut it off, I am forced to reboot. When I open the computer after closing it, everything stays black and nothing seems to work aside from a restart (no good, I know).When I restart, network management is disabled and thus I am prevented from accessing wireless. The only solution I have found is to hibernate, which for some reason fixes the problem. A restart however does nothing. So I guess I have two questions:1) Why can't I close my computer without turning it off?2) Is there a more permanent solution aside from merely hibernating after a crash that will fix network manager
