OpenSUSE Install :: Booting With Bootsplash Turned Off / Sending Error FATAL: Module Ata_piix Not Found?
Dec 20, 2009
while booting with bootsplash turned off there's a message "FATAL: Module ata_piix not found FATAL: Error running install command for ata_piix" .Though everything works fine i'd like to know what does this message mean and is there a way to disable loading of ata_piix whatever it means.
I am using openSuSE 11.2 on a VGN-AR41L. I have also erased the preinstalled Home Vista (what a pleasure). Now to my problem. My system boots correctly but if I press the <ESC> key while booting I can see the following messages:
"Doing fast boot FATAL: mbcache module not found FATAL: ahci module not found " and the boot process continues normally.
Why this happens? Does this mean that I have a problem that I haven't discovered yet? Is it something that I can ignore? I am using SUSE Linux from version SUSE Linux 8 personal and although I am not a power user I have done my two desertions on this system and I am very happy with SUSE. I have bought SUSE Linux 8 Personal and SUSE Linux 10 all the other versions until today have been downloaded.
I have a problem with loading the powersaving kernel module p4-clockmod.ko. When I try inserting the module (via modprobe or insmod) I get FATAL: Error inserting p4_clockmod (/lib/modules/18.104.22.168-mediaserver/extra/p4-clockmod.ko): Invalid module format The module has been compiled together with the kernel. Other modules load with no problem at all. I've tried recompiling the kernel (after re-installing the sources, make xconfig from scratch) - no avail. There's only one kernel source package installed. Searching the forum and google didn't yield a helping answer.
I have just upgraded from 11.1 to 11.4. When I boot up, I get a command line, but when I do 'startx', I get 'Fatal server error: no screens found'. I have been looking for a solution and tried 'Xorg -configure' but this gives:
Code: Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vboxvideo_drv.so: undefined symbol: resVgaShared
I downloaded the new Catalyst Package from ATI [URL] and I don't know what happened. Installed fine restarted. It starts loading fine then screen flickers like crazy Gnome Desktop won't load. Kicks me over to console type log in. Starting vmtoolsd FATAL : Module vmmemctl not found. gdm: WARNING: GdmDisplay : display lasted 2.12 seconds Gdm: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maxium number of X display failures reached: check x server log for errors. I type StartX and is states (ee) fglrx(0): iregl_setsuspendresumestate FAILED -9. Is it going to happen with every computer running 11.3?

Ok, I just upgraded from Slackware 13.0 to Slackware-current and now when I run modprobe ndiswrapper I get the following error.FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found.Im not sure what happened on this. I did a search in google and couldn't find anything useful any help would be appreciated.
I want to activate cpu frequency scaling on my home computer. I have an athlon 64 3200+. I know that it supports frequency scaling, because when I got the processor I also got a CD with the Cool n'Quiet driver. I've tried with the powernowd service, but when I try to start it I get Code: * Starting powernowd... * CPU frequency scaling not supported...
and if I try to start cpufreqd I get Code: No cpufreq interface found, not starting cpufreqd In the meanwhile I've noticed that I also don't have powernow-k7 kernel module installed. If I try a modprobe powernow-k7 I get: Code: FATAL: Module powernow_k7 not found I have no ideea where I can get this kernel module.
Boot up with 2.6.32 kernel. Get to login screen, X attempts to start and fails. I log in, execute startx and succeed. Yesterday, could not boot up at all with .30 kernel. Upgraded to .32, so partially fixed. Yesterday also un-installed Synaptics package, as do not have touch-pad on this machine (Thinkpad X40)
This from kdm.log: X.Org X Server 1.7.4 Release Date: 2010-01-08 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-686 i686 Debian .....
I'm using openSUSE 11.1, KDE I'm trying to install the module Apache2::Request to my OS. After the gzip -dc libapreq2-2.12.tar.gz | tar -xof - I typed in Shell these (as shown in INSTALLATION document of module): perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs Then something goes wrong, make doesn't work saying: make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop..
I think the problem is in the command perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs in section .../path/to/apache2/bin/apxs . What does mean ./path/to/apache2/bin/apxs? Maybe I should write the path to apache2 which contains a file named apxs? I did not find such file apxs. My apache2 path is /etc/apache2, but there is no file named apxs... Result for perl Makefile.PL --with-apache2-apxs=/path/to/apache2/bin/apxs:
When I deleted uninstalling and installing some packages in Yast2 I got this output:

I recently got a eSata docking station for hard drives and after deciding to make those volumes encrypted LVM's, I created my first logical volume. After setting it up in yast2 and rebooting I received a prompt for the lvm password, gave it and received:
Mar 17 13:38:21 blkdragon kernel: [ 1105.172687] padlock: VIA PadLock not detected. Mar 17 13:38:21 blkdragon kernel: [ 1105.313056] alg: No test for stdrng (krng) Mar 17 13:38:21 blkdragon kernel: [ 1105.323189] alg: No test for stdrng (ansi_cprng) Mar 17 13:38:22 blkdragon kernel: [ 1105.416892] padlock: VIA PadLock Hash Engine not detected. Mar 17 13:38:22 blkdragon modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting padlock_sha (/lib/modules/22.214.171.124-0.6-desktop/kernel/drivers/crypto/padlock-sha.ko): No such device
Boot resumed and I looked for the reason for this, the padlock-sha.ko module does exist in the appropiate place and the volume was mounted in spite of the error message. Lvmdump seems to indicate that the volume is, in fact, encrypted. My thoughts at the moment are that the volume was encrypted by aes, so the padlock-sha.ko was not necessary to mount the volume. Backtracking the message log the same error happened during the creation of the volume before rebooting. The kernel version gives it away but it's a 11.2 machine.
I just installed Maverick on a brand new system last Saturday. Everything worked, except dual monitors, so I activated the proprietary ATI/AMD driver. That allowed the dual monitors to work, except that it put a little "AMD unsupported hardware" watermark in the lower right-hand side of each screen. After a day or two, I decided to go back to the default driver while trying to figure out how to avoid the watermark.
I assumed that when I deactivated/removed the proprietary driver that it would automatically switch back to the default. Instead, my computer now boots to TTY1, and when I try to install xserver.xorg, etc., I get a lot of error messages, ike "No screens found" or "Screens found, but configuration is unusable," etc. The same messages show up in the logs. Can anyone help me get back to a useable desktop display? At this point, I don't care which one. erhaps the proprietary would be easiest since it seems to be holding my system hostage, but either one would work.
Ubuntu 10.10 Whenever I try to boot up now I get a command line environment instead of the normal gnome desktop. The first error message that comes up is: "Screens found, but none have a usable configuration" further down: "Fatal server error: no screens found" Any way I can re-configure so it detects my monitor?
I have installed suse 11.2. Sometimes while using (firefox, okular, open office etc) x server restarts & comes to login screen. While checking Xorg.0.log i found i810 module is failed to load. Is this causing the x server restart?
Since yesterday my computer behaves really strange. I fear it's a hardware issue. At most I did some minor updates, but no big software or OS change.
When I turn it on it goes immediately to [url]
I guess it reads
Code: Chasis intruded Fatal Error... System Halted.
So this happens before the boot manager... When I press the reboot button it goes to the boot manager and works seemingly fine - all I noticed that it doesn't remember the time, or better remembered the time form the last usage but doesn't count it forward. While using the time seems to pass in a normal speed.
What could this be? Some chip on the mainboard broken? Some BIOS virus (does something like that exist?) Or maybe just a cable which got lose?
I don't know which other informations could be helpful. I built it myself some years ago and the parts are pretty random (back then I didn't even know about linux compatibility nor used it at all). I have a dual boot with openSUSE 11.2 and windows xp, but the network card is deactived in xp for a year at least already.
I've installed 9.10 on a work station with success. I've got an nvidia quadro fx 3000 and its supported under nvidia legacy driver apparently. So I've tried to install the driver with no success. Xorg.0.log reports a fatal server error no screens found. I get a flashing console login when I boot with "nvidia" device driver in xorg.conf, it boots fine with "nv". No matter what I try I cant get it to boot with nvidia drivers. Also, on a side note, after initially installing nvidia driver thru hardware in gnome, I no longer have a grub loader option to select recovery or anything else. Upon boot it displays "grub" briefly then continues to boot to gui. I've set the delay to 20 seconds with no results.
Resolved the issue of the display, now on to the grub menu.
there are several posts related to my problem but not quite what I want. I don't need any effects to be running nor do I need perfect resolution. I have a PCI-E card Nvidia 8600 gts and I need to run redhat 7.1 for reasons that are not debatable. I also have an onboard ati radeon X 1250 but currently I am running the PCI-E.The installation was successful and ran in GUI, however after installation and reboot, the screen keeps flickering trying to load the desktop.I just need to get the GUI running the same way the installer was able to run in GUI, I tried editing the XF86Config file to change the driver to either vesa or vga but still didn't work. Probing for devices is not an option since the card is not listed and the maximum video ram goes up to 64MB in xconfigurator. It probes my card as a VGA generic with 1 MB ram. I know there is a way to have the desktop load just the same as the installer's gui settings but that's where I need help.
this is after changing all the 'driver' values to vesa. I don't understand why it can't find the screen even though I used the horizontal and vert. sync values for my monitor. Any instructions or advice on how to just get the desktop loaded would be great, I know this is a very old OS but regardless I need for it to work.
i decided to install ubuntu in my PC,i downloaded the .ISO image and i installed it in my USB. After trying it and all that i observed that i really liked it and i decided to formally install it to my computer in the hard drive. When i reached the partition thing,i selected to dual boot with Vista and select between each them in every startup, when i clicked FORWARD it gave me an error which i did not read(because, again im a noob) so i clicked cancel.
Today i wanted to go through the process again and now really install it,so again i went to the time zone part and i clicked forward but then, instead of taking me straight to the partition phase,it appeard a window saying "The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions: /dev/sda ...." I clicked yes,to unmount this partitions so it took me to the partition thing, once there i selected the option to install Ubuntu with Vista and select between them i neach startup, then i clicked forward and went to the username/computer name process, once i finished i continued to the next part, the installation, but i selected to import all of my WIndows VIsta default user data, after that i clicked forward and went to the installation process,i went down stairs to eat soemthing while it finishes,i came back and it was finished,it asked me to reboot so i clicked in Restart Now.
When it tried to boot, appeared an error saying: Error: no such devide found: #################### Grub load(or something like that) grub rescue: and it was a command line, since there i havent been able to boot into vista or Ubuntu,im really scared because is the first thing related to OS installing ive done,so i booted my USB and ran the trial and right now im trying to find out what to do from that trial version. I just went to the INSTALL UBUNTU 10.04 LTS application under the System>Administration Menu and found out that in the partition phase the Install and allow to select between both systems in eahc startup option,i dont know what to do,i foudn out that my HD has still all its data(MUsic/Videos/Folders/Programs/ect.)its just that i cannot boot from it. Also in GParted it appears as /dev/sda1/ and a warning icon besides it,also when i go into information, thers this warning there [URL]
