OpenSUSE Install :: NVIDIA NForce 590 SLI Installation Halts?

Dec 8, 2010

I would like to build up a multi boot system with 11.3 on ASUS M2N32 WS motherboard inclusive NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI RAID controller and Marwell 88SE614xSATA connectors.The problem is that if I built up the RAID-1 arrays (2x500, 2x1000) it cannot be seen from Suse install. As far as I investigated the nForce driver is in 11.3, but in this case why the installation hangs (no reset button, only power off). Sorry I cannot provide you a log, becuase the installation procedure goes to the restart, the system restarts, and Grube says error 15 or 21.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: No HDMI Audio On NVidia GeForce / NForce IGPU On Mb ASUS P5N7A-VM 11.2 Or 11.3?

Aug 6, 2010

I have an ASUS P5N7A-VM motherboard and was using Optical out for sound without issues running OpenSuse 11.2. I then got rid of my receiver and wanted to just use HDMI sound. I couldn't get it to work so I upgraded to OpenSuse 11.3. I simply went to the Sound control panel applet and changed it to Internal Audio Digital Stereo (HDMI). I can not get any sound from it on OpenSuse 11.3 either. I have ran sound tests from the command line "speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav" which all run without errors, but nothing comes out of the speakers. I have ran the suggestion of one post "alsa-info.sh" and here are my results:

http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=27...860267e7079411. I have also tried the following post which did not resolve the problem since it seems to be Ubuntu based. I have undid everything from the post as well to make sure I don't stray to far from normal.

Ubuntu :: Nvidia GeForce 6150SE NForce W/ Natty?

May 1, 2011

I first started having problems on 10.10 a few days ago. Just boots to a command prompt. After troubleshooting, I found when I remove xorg.conf gnome starts up. Under System>Preferences>Monitors shows my correct Monitor model and resolution.

The resolution displays properly, 1680x1050, but without Nvidia and Graphic acceleration, I can't run my Compiz effects or XBMC. I'm having the exact same issues with 11.04. I ran nvidia-xconfig as root to get an auto gen xorg.conf. No change. GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 integrated graphics card

Fedora Installation :: Unable To Install 15 - Halts At "waiting For Hardware To Initialize"

Jul 21, 2011

I m trying to install fedora 15 on a computer I've just built (which is already running windows 7).

asrock h61m/u3s3 lga 1155 intel motherboard
intel i5-2500 processor
radeon HD 6850 graphics card

After selecting "install a new system or upgrade an existing system" the installation process completely halts at "waiting for hardware to initialize." I looked this up and tried various boot options which frankly, I don't know what exactly they do. Setting "nomodeset" changed nothing as did various others like "noefi". When "ignore_loglevel" was set, the progress went a little further past "waiting for hardware to initialize" stopping after this:

[15.106386] atl1c 0000:05:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 18 (level, low) -> IQR 18
[15.106639] atl1c 0000:05:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[15.139841] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810

From what I've gathered from looking this issue up for the past few days, it is probably a graphics card issue. However, I did remove my graphics card and tried using the input directly to the motherboard and had similar issues. I'm not sure what other information is relevant but I can try to relay as much as I can if it is needed.

I added "ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.3" to my repository and found a new driver to install. That solved my problems. Now my systems are rock solid.

1.) I've installed the ubuntu 10.10 64bit for i386 in an oracle virtualBox..

2.) downloaded from nvidia.com "NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.44.run"

Oh, and I forget to say that Centos 5.2 on VMware does have internet, but I stopped using vmware because it became very laggy on my Vista OS, so I started to use dualboot.

Ubuntu :: 10.10 64bit Install Halts At 61% File Copy?

Oct 23, 2010

I am having some issues installing Kubuntu 10.10 64bit, I have tried two ISO's from different mirrors, multiple writable disks (seriously I had to go buy another 20 pack) and the install halts at the exact same point each time.I have run multiple HDD checking tools using Hirens 9.9 boot CD, I have recreated and formated the partitions twice but still each time the install will stop at 61% stating there was an error copying files and to check the media.

I grabbed the ISO's from Kubuntu.org and the second one from the NZ mirror ftp.citylink.co.nz in the hopes that maybe the image came down corrupt - the disk check before installing cannot find anything wrong yet it still happens ... its very upside down face

Ubuntu Installation :: Boot Process Halts With A Black Screen

Aug 16, 2010

I'm trying to update an older laptop for my nephew. It was running Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS) successfully.

However, after installing a clean copy of Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04 LTS), the boot process halts almost immediately with a black screen. There is no blinking cursor and no hard-drive activity.

When I hold down the "Shift" key after the rebooting the computer, I'm able to edit the grub2 boot options.

When I remove the "quiet" boot option, I'm able to see about a page of text before the boot process halts and displays the black screen. Here is the last bit of text that appears just before the black screen:

Code:
...
Begin: Running /scripts/init-bottom ...
Done.

At this point, the font style changes slightly. Then the text is replaced by the solid black screen. There is no blinking cursor, and the hard drive activity ceases.

I've tried booting in rescue mode: This also halts at a solid black screen.

This is an older laptop: I had to boot the installation disc with the boot option "noapic" in order for the installation disc to run.

However, the installation seemed to run normally. I was able to finish installing the system. But, after removing the installer disc and rebooting, we were met with that solid black screen almost immediately after booting.

I used the minimal install disc: [URL]

I've verified the MD5 checksum for the disc image. And I've successfully used this same disc to install Ubuntu for my mother.

But my little nephew is left without a usable system.

Could we be missing a boot option?

OpenSUSE Install :: Stable - Install Nvidia - Driver 260.xx.xx In Opensuse 11.3?

Jan 19, 2011

i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.

1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates

2. install with the yast software re/installer:

(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

[Code]...

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 - Cannot Install Nvidia Driver ?

Aug 3, 2011

Nvidia h/w:Quadro FX 570

Installed 11.4 yesterday. No problems. Installed Gnome 3 today and it goes into fallback mode. Assuming that the graphics driver might be the culprit, I attempted to install the latest nvidia driver.

Added repo ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.4/ in Yast2.

Did a refresh and it complains that it cannot access installation media at the above. Paste the above in Firefox and it gets there OK.

One-click method also fails.

Never had a problem with updating nvidia driver before. Not sure what to check. I did delete and add with no success.

BTW, the other defined repos in Yast2 work fine.

OpenSUSE Install :: Xen & Nvidia Crashes X11

Jun 7, 2010

I have a strange problem that the X-Server freezes when I log out, switch to another virtual console or the like.

It works fine when I boot the kernel without xen.

The problem reduced to a very simple scenario:

* Boot Xen-Dom0-Kernel
* wait until the X11 display manager wants a login
* Press Alt+Ctrl+Fx
==> X11 freezes

I tried with kde4 and with xdm as display manager, both show the same problem. It does not happen when I boot with the XEN-less kernel.

I am using openSUSE 11.1 with all patches on AMD64 and the nvidia driver. 32bit is not a solution, this machine has 16GB Memory (which would be useless ...)

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Nvidia-settings Won't Install From Rpm

Jul 19, 2010

I am extremely disappointed in this 11.3 release. openSUSE had a system that worked. I never had a major problem with the Nvidea video drivers before this release. When I did have a problem with the drivers (usually because Nvidia screwed up) I was able to easily use "The hard way" to install the drivers and all was good. But now the system is so screwed up that the drivers wont install. I can't find a working Saxx2 anywhere. nvidia-settings won't install from rpm. What the hell is going on? This release should have been held up until this garbage was fixed. Novvaeu (sp?) won't work for some of the programs I want to run.

I probably changed so much stuff that I bet my system won't boot now. Oh and what happened to the lack of repair software on the install disk? For two versions now the only repair option we have had is the command line. That's great if you use those tools on a regular or semi regular basis.

OpenSUSE Install :: NVIDIA Xinerama Compiz - Almost There?

Nov 26, 2008

I heard a lot about NVIDIA Xinerama & Compiz not working but on looking further, in recent times people have got them to work. I've setup Xinerama with 4 monitors working across 2 dual video cards and it works great. I have the latest NVIDIA drivers (using the one-click) and I just installed the latest compiz using one-click as well.

The cards are as follows:
Chip: 0 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 01:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
Chip: 1 is -> NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT 02:00:0 0x10de 0x0402 AGP nvidia
(I chose these because they have no fans and when working from home, quiet is nice to have!)

The following options are recommended to run compiz with NVIDIA and I have enabled them all at one point. However, looking through carefully I don't need to since using the latest drivers and having pretty good video cards all this seems to be (according to the documentation) automatically enabled.

OpenSUSE Install :: No Second Screen With NVidia V260.1.19.36 And 11.3

Updated nVidia driver today to v260.19.36 using the "easy way" which I have successfully used several times in the past. Install finished w/no problems. Rebooted and one of my 2 monitors lights up and looks normal, I'm using it now, the other is dark. The Configure display settings (monitor preferences) in the menu bar tells me Monitor unknown.

No previous problems with dual-monitors, earlier nVidia drivers and 11.3. Run nVidia X server settings utility and try to config. 2nd monitor. Utility shows both monitors but when I try to configure and save the config with both monitors the app hangs. Seems like I'm stuck with one (working fine) monitor at the moment.
