OpenSUSE :: Install / Run Lotus Notes 8.5 / 8.5.1 On 11.2

Nov 20, 2009

I am running Lotus Notes on top of openSuSE since 10.3 and version 7 of Lotus Notes. The last packages provided by IBM (8.5 and 8.5.1) provide a smooth and easy way of installing it through rpm packages. Some issues had appear and I solved them (or lived with ), but this time I did a full fresh install of 11.2 64bits. I then install the brand new packages of Notes 8.5.1 and had the following problem : The Notes GUI wasn't able to display some elements of the interface (i.e. small view of calendar, search bar, popups, Notes basic settings in the properties etc...). Searching by big blue, I found out a solution for Ubuntu that I customized for openSuSE 11.2 64bits.

Step one : Install Lotus Notes: Have a copy of the .tar package from IBM. untar it into a new directory. With YaST add the directory to the repositories Install all the packages provided (the ones with Symphony are really optional).

Ubuntu :: Lotus Notes 8.5 On 9.10 Karmic X64?

Apr 1, 2010

I am trying to get Notes to run on Ubuntu 9.10 karmic x64 and haven't had any luck. I started off by following the steps from the following location [URL] This didn't work and I had the symptoms listed below. I then looked at the following guide and did all the steps that were not on the above link: [URL] However I still had the same issue. So the symptoms:

1) I don't see notes in the apps->office menu, but I am able to start it via:

cd /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/framework

2) I get the login window and am able to go through the setup (pointing to the notes id file, and my domino server etc). However at the end of it all, no GUI is displayed. Even though lnotes shows up in the running processes.

3) In the terminal window I get the following error:

Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module": /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/modules/ wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64
(:6077): Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/ wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

Ubuntu :: Lotus Notes 8.5.2 On 10.04 64bit?

Aug 27, 2010

With the release of Lotus Notes 8.5.2, it looks like Ubuntu 32bit support is there, however I am running 64bit Ubuntu 10.04.

I had 8.5.1 (32bit) installed and it was working fine. I did take alot of tweaking to get it running.

Just wondering if anyone has tackled the new 8.5.2 which is supposed to be much nicer in Ubuntu.

I've tried removing the old 8.5.1 and the install for the 8.5.2 doesn't really work correctly even with "--force" commands.

Always a challenge with Notes and Ubuntu Why they didn't make 64bit debian packages is beyond me.

Ubuntu :: Lotus Notes 8.5.2 On 11.04 64 Bit Installation

May 6, 2011

I tried to install Lotus Notes 8.5.2 (deb package) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit. Unfortunately, Lotus is not able to complete the installation! I googled and I found a guide on IBM forum (but for 10.04 release) and on [URL], I installed required dependencies (ia32lib, all getlibs, ecc) but I am not able to continue the installation. I tried to install in different Ubuntu release. Here a summury:

- Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine
- Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine (also in Unity environment)
- Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit: Lotus Notes cannot install.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Notes On Installing Mod_proxy_html In 5.5

Sep 5, 2010

This post is just intended as a "trail of crumbs" for anybody else who needs to install a "reverse proxy" in CentOS. First, a disclaimer. I really don't know what I am doing--I am trying to figure out "just enough" so I can do what I need to do. My primary OS is Mac OS, and linux is making me resurrect neurons that went to sleep 30 years ago. So I have a subscription to JSTOR, which is a service that uses fixed IPs to determine who you are. When you go to [URL], the services you have access to depend upon the IP that you are coming from. I have a VPS at Linode, with the IP of (say) I registered with jstor when I set up my subscription.

I want to set up a reverse proxy so that when I go to [URL] from home or the office, I get access to jstor. I use mod_proxy_html so that every time I ask my VPS for "" the VPS goes to jstor (from the IP, gets the page, rewrites the page as necessary, and then returns the modified page to my computer. In this way I can browse jstor 'as if' I were actually at the IP So I got all this running last year (well, mostly) with CentOS 5.2. But the other day we got different internet service, with new IPs, and I had to update things. In a fit of madness, I typed

Ubuntu :: Couldn't Find Instructions Online

Oct 25, 2010

I'm new to linux, have been somewhat of a computer geek my whole life and thought it about time that I delved into the world of linux. So I installed ubuntu 10.04 on my computer. I love it. However, I can't get my wireless to work. In my dorms there are no ethernet hookups, so I have to use the wireless. I typed "sudo lshw -class network" into the root terminal. The important things that I figured out was the bus info: pci@0000:4:06.0 and the pysical id: 6 (not sure if the physical id is important but it sounds like it is). I then did a lspci and found that at bus 04:06.0 it is a RaLink Device 3060. I downloaded the .tar file for the driver. I could not find instructions for it online so I followed the ones for the rt2860 driver : [URL].... I could not get it to work, It built ok and installed ok, but when I do the modprobe I get an error saying the device or resource is busy. Either that or that it cannot be found. One thing that I found weird was that I couldn't get it to build a 3060 driver, it would only build a 3562 one.
