Networking :: Multiple IPs One NIC Configuration Doesn't Load At Boot On Fedora 12?

Dec 2, 2009

I have a Fedora 12 system that I am trying to configure with 3 IP addresses on one NIC card. I created scripts for each of the connections I want in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ and they are called ifcfg-eth0, ifcfg-eth0:1, ifcfg-eth0:2. If I run /sbin/services network restart it configures everything as I would like. When I restart the computer the only device configured is eth0 and it is set to DHCP. If I run the script again everything works. What am I missing to make this change persistent?

Fedora Installation :: GRUB Doesn't Load - Make Load Again Upon Booting?

Feb 9, 2009

I had Fedora 7 and Windows Vista dual booting on my computer. I just installed Fedora 10. When the live CD asked me where to install it, I chose "Remove all Linux Partitions and create default layout" The installation went perfectly, but now when reboot my computer, it boots directly into Fedora; GRUB does not load to ask me which OS I want to load. I know I did not overwrite Vista because I can still view my Vista files through Fedora. Here is my grub.conf file:

What do I need to do to make GRUB load again upon booting?

Debian Configuration :: Failed To Load Nouveau - X Doesn't See Intel Driver

Aug 27, 2015

Built a machine w/ i5-4440 & gtx 960. I installed xserver-xorg-video-intel & xserver-xorg-video-nouveau. Xorg -configure fails, so I added xorg.conf I found online, makes no difference. xrandr can't open display. startx of course fails.

Backstory: My plan was to dual boot sid + stable as fallback with shared partition. First installed stable and whether connected to mobo or gfx card, I couldn't get login on tty, it would just hang on errors. So I installed sid (this time using lvm to hopefully make partitioning easier) and while I get the "failed to load nouveau" errors on mobo, gfx card gives me a login screen.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 On PS3 No Boot - Install CD Doesn't Load

Oct 14, 2010

has anybody tried 10.10 on their PS3 (FW 3.15)? I first ran an update from 10.04 (which was working fine, including ext4 FS), and upon rebooting after the update, all I had was a black screen after PetitBoot. I then tried to do a clean install with the 10.10 PPC+PS3 Alternate CD, but same black screen after selecting any type of install from CD in PetitBoot. I then installed the OtherOS that's on the 10.10 CD (KBoot); same black screen. Went back to PetitBoot and tried the PS3 desktop 10.10 CD; same problem. I was almost ready to give up and reinstall 10.04 when I thought of using the "linux-old" option in PetitBoot. This loaded the newly upgraded Ubuntu 10.10 on my HD, with the difference that it's using kernel 2.6.32 instead of 2.6.35. This works fine. So here's my question (at last ): was the PS3 port of 10.10 tested by anyone before being pushed as a release on cdimage.ubuntu.com, or is there an incompatibility with kernel 2.6.35 that was never noticed, except for here where it didn't seem to go anywhere: [URL]? If I'm the only one left on earth with firmware 3.15 and interested in Ubuntu on PS3 at this point.

Ubuntu :: Compiz Fusion Set To Load On Boot It Doesn't?

Mar 27, 2011

Compiz Fusion set to load on boot; it doesn't. Settings checked as start on boot, it just doesn't and has to be loaded manually from desktop 2.) Desktop Drapes (wallpaper changer) also set to load on boot; also doesn't do so, even though checked to do so, and also must be loaded manually from desktop. 3.) Something is hogging CPU cycles something awful; if I have more than a few tabs in Firefox open, it takes forever to scroll or reload, and the entire system just bogs almost to the point of unusability. This same behavior exists offline when using any graphic capability (Shotwell or even just Nautilus file manager, if viewing graphics as thumbnails.

I realize this is kind of all over the place and all-inclusive, but although my experience USING Ubuntu goes on several years, it's been generally so trouble-free that I've not had to dig around under the hood much, and I'm kind of at a loss as to where to begin troubleshooting this mess. Would it be easier to just back-up and nuke/reinstall the OS?

Debian Configuration :: Splashy - Load Stalls On Boot ?

Nov 22, 2010

I have installed splashy from sid. Rest of the system is squeeze, and put the parameter "vga=791 splash quiet" in the kernel parameter...

Unfortunately this is not working properly. It does load the splash image as intended, but it then just hangs here, and does not load the OS unless I press enter. (I asume that something is hangning, but I cannot see the shell from here, and ctrl+f2-f6 is not working so I cannot get to any tty).

Then after boot, I can only see the / partition. But not /home. Duing a fdisk -l shows up the partitions, so they are there, just not mounted at boot?

If I press F2 at boot, before the image shows up, it does actually boot without any issues at all. It must be something with the image loading that is causing this.

CentOS 5 :: System Locks Up During Boot While Trying To Load First-run Configuration?

Aug 10, 2010

I just installed CentOS 5.5 on my machine and the installation appeared to complete successfully (it said it was successful). When I rebooted and tried to get into my new CentOS, my system completely locked up during the startup. According to the progress bar, it got stuck on the first-run configuration. I have not yet been able to boot into the OS. I am attempting to create a dual-boot system. I already have Windows XP installed on a separate hard drive. The GRUB loader works fine and I can choose either OS to boot into, it's just the CentOS won't finish booting. Windows is completely unaffected.Since I'm assuming the problem stems from the installation, I'll list the steps I followed.

1. Obtained the .iso image from a network drive at work (I am installing on my work machine). The image is dated May 17, 2010.

2. Burned the image to a DVD.

3. Booted from the DVD and chose to install using the graphical interface.

4. Checked the DVD. The installer verified that CentOS could be installed from it.

5. Picked my installation and keyboard languages.

6. Chose to create a custom layout for my partitions. On my second hard drive, I created the following partitions:

- Swap (8196MB, twice my system RAM)
- ext3 (100MB, mounted to /boot)
- ext3 (remaining drive space, mounted to /)

7. Picked my timezone (did not use UTC since Windows will handle setting the system time)

8. Set my root password. You don't get to know ;)

9. Did not choose to install any additional packages besides the KDE desktop. I wasn't sure what I'd need so I checked the option to customize later.

10. The installation than started and 15 minutes later, it told me it had succeeded and to remove the DVD and reboot.

11. Upon rebooting, I let the GRUB loader boot into CentOS (side note, I'd prefer if Windows was the default OS but that's something I should be able to Google on my own).

12. The startup looks like it's going fine until it gets to the first-run configuration, at which point the entire system locks up and requires a hard reboot. I've tried several times since and it always locks up at the same point.

Debian Configuration :: Custom Multiple - Boot Troubleshooting-System?

Aug 16, 2010

I want to build a custom system and I need your opinions. I have an old laptop which I want to configure as a system for troubleshooting purpose, my idea is to have multi-boot system with multiple root file systems, e.g. one root file system has only BIND to work as DNS server, another root file system has only Samba, etc., and I can choose which system to boot into from grub, or a custom menu after booting grub.

I thought of setting multiple partitions and install a full system on each one, but I thought that there might be a better way to do this, I'd like to hear your opinions.

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot Screen Doesn't Show And Installation Media Won't Load

Jun 7, 2010

I've got a dual-booting system with Windows 7 and Opensuse 11.2. I had a few other random kernels so I edited /boot/grub/menu.lst to remove them. This was fine after a reboot, then I went to YaST and changed the default boot partition to Windows, because I had edited the MBR and put Windows above the other boot partitions, YaST changed "default" to 0.

Now after a restart the Boot Loader doesn't appear, I just have a flashing cursor. When I try to boot from an OpenSuse installation disc and try repair the Repair Kernel loads but freezes on the OpenSuse splash screen. I've heard this is due to the fact I have an ATI Radeon card, if I hold shift during the CD load to prevent the graphical interface of the CD loading. I can type to boot "rescue" but it freezes on "starting udev...". Essentially I just need to be able to edit menu.lst back to the backup I made or change the "default" value back to 1.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: WLAN Module Doesn't Load Automatically At Boot - 11.4 KDE X86_64?

Mar 21, 2011

Using tips provided in the "Sticky" posts, I have identified my wireless device -- BCM4322 -- and installed the necessary firmware and drivers. After each boot I must execute the following commands to remove ssd and load the Broadcom driver:

rmmod ssb
modprobe lib80211
modprobe wl

The Broadcom README file provides directions to load the correct module automatically, but the commands appear to be incompatible with openSUSE 11.4. I'm happy to provide additional detail if needed

Fedora Networking :: FC10 - Int-bond0 Doesn't Comes Up During Boot?

Mar 4, 2009

I'm bonding the two NICs on my FC10 server to create a bonded LAG between it and my Cisco Catalyst switch, but during kernel init, the system always give me a notice that "bond0 doesn't appear to exist" so it skips it.Once I log in, I can always open Network Manager and the bond0 interface goes from "Inactive" to "Active" and bond0 immediately works, and I can restart the appropriate network services and everything is fine. But any idea why this bonding wouldn't be initializing during boot up? The ports on the Cisco are configured for hard set speed and duplex and portfast is turned off on them.Is there a guide for best practices for creating LAGs (bonded interfaces) between FC10 and Cisco switches?

Do you have any idea what open source solution i can apply for my problem?

Debian Configuration :: Doesn't Boot After Unloading Alx

Aug 16, 2015

I'm using debian 8 on a notebook and since I tried to get the wifi working (another story...) I wanted to unload and load the alx driver module. So I used rmmod alx and when I tried to reload with modprobe, it didn't find the device (not the module). So I rebooted and now the notebook won't start. There's just the emrgency mode, so I log in as root and journalctl -xb gives me some erros:

Code: Select allsystemd-modules-load.service: main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

Failed to start Load Kernel Modules.Unit systemd-mdoules-load.service entered failed state. Then it fails to start the modules ip, ppdev, parport_pc and fuse.Next error is

Code: Select allboot-efi.mount mount process exited, code=exited, status=32

Failed to mount /boot/efi.Followed by

Code: Select allDependency failed for Local File System.
And last but not least
Code: Select allFailed at step EXEC spawning /bin/plymouth: No such file or directory.

There was also an error at the first time "Failed to load autofs4", so loaded it manually with modprobe. As this worked, I opened the /etc/modules - which was empty, don't know whethere it was also empty before or not - and wrote autofs4 in the file. autofs4 seems to load succesfully, so I tried writing also ip, ppdev, parport_pc and fuse, but I just get the error for these last four twice... But lsmod shows some loaded modules (autofs4, ext4, crc16, mbcache, also alx and say 15 more). You should also know that I use an extra boot partition and use EFI.
