I'm a new comer to this area. I'm trying to install debian on my laptop withg WinXP
and make it dual boot. Reading the installation guide on the Debian wiki page, I want

Debian :: RIPIT Can't Find The Config File?

Jan 20, 2011

I've installed RIPIT 3.6.0-1 for Lenny and have been following this tutorial to define a config file that saves all my options and which I can call every time I want to rip a CD [URL]

Following that tutorial I copied the config file in etc/ripit/config to the new director ~/.ripit/config. The new directory and file exist as I can see them when I do ls -a and can edit the new config file.

However when I type the command ripit all I get is the error message No config file found!

Debian Installation :: USB Installation Fails To Find An Installation Iso Image

Aug 15, 2010

I have installed Debian maybe 30 times over the years since about 2003, stable, testing and Sid on two different desktops and two different laptops. The only problem I have ever had is sometimes with a flaky daily build. It is one of my favorite distros.

BUT, I am totally frustrated is trying to install to a USB. I have followed the manual step by step about 6 times in the past two weeks. The result is always the same. The installation fails to find an installation iso image. Yes, I know the iso image and the hd-media vmlinuz and initrd.gz files are supposed to be the same version.

File: debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso from: [url]

Files: vmlinuz and initrd.gz from: [url]

The USB boots to a Language selection screen and proceeds through the Keyboard selection screen with no problems.

The next step which searches for an installation iso image fails.

Skipping that step and trying to load installer components from iso image also fails.

Searching the entire PC for an installation iso image also fails. (I even copied the netinst iso image to the HD root directory.)

Ubuntu Installation :: Cannot Find Boot File / Won't Load Anything

Aug 21, 2010

My internal hard drive developed a problem (probably from a fall) and needs to be replaced. In the meantime I've decided to use my external hard drive to hold a version of Linux (ubuntu 10.04) until I am able to replace the internal hard drive. For some reason I am unable to get the external drive to accept the recovery disks I have for Windows 7.

What I'm having issues with is that after installing the Ubuntu OS on to the external, I reboot the PC and it tells me it cannot find a boot file, and won't load anything. I have to run the live cd version of the OS to get anything to work right.

It perks for a little while showing some Ubuntu stuff then I get the console message "(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system".I don't get this. It is obviously booting from the CDROM. I'm guessing it does not like the unformatted disk. Why doesn't it offer to format the disk of start the installation prcess? Is it something else?

Ubuntu :: Installation - Unable To Find A Medium Containing A Live File System

Aug 9, 2011

Background info: So I installed 11.04 32 bit and it messed my computer up therefore after trying everything I got rid of it, now I've been trying to install the 10.04 long support version from the official ubuntu website and it doesn't seem to be working. Neither the 32 bit version or the 64 bit. To convert the iso etc. etc. I used "Universal-USB-Installer-" which is reccommended from the ubuntu website and it didn't work. So I tried "unetbootin-win-549" which a friend recommended to me - didn't work either.

Main problem: The menu loads up when I turn on the computer and whether I click on the install ubuntu, or try ubuntu from usb option - both go to the ubuntu screen where the dot's under "ubuntu" flash for about 2 minutes before taking me to a screen where the following message appears: Code: (initframs) unable to find a medium containing a live file system And after about 5 seconds intervals, messages similar to this appear for about 7 or 8 times:

Code: usb 1-3: device not accepting address 7. error -110 new high speed usb device using ehci_hcd and address 8 Each time they appear the parts which differ is the numbers from the text above i.e. usb 2-3....

Debian :: How To Find Typo3 4.2 After Installation

Dec 15, 2010

I'm using Debian since about two years now and I'm happy with it. Yesterday I used Synaptic to install the Typo3 4.2 meta package from the main sources.I wasn't sure if it would be a better idea to use the newer version 4.4, but thought it would be the least tricky thing to stick with the officially supported versions for Debian Lenny. So I picked up a book for this older version of Typo3 from the library and wanted to start learning the CMS.

The problem I encountered was the fact, that the installation didn't produce any folder on "/var/www/" from which I could start. As well I couldn't find any man, help or info entriesNothing so far on the internet as well. (Some months ago, when I installed Drupal the same way, I didn't had any such problems.)Do I need to do something else in order to get access from the localhost?Does the Debian Typo3 setup use a different folder somewhere else

Debian Installation :: CD Cannot Find Ethernet Card?

Aug 27, 2011

I'v just brought a notebook computer with a CPU i7 2630QM. I install debian via CD driver, but it failed to success. The probles are three, (1).it reported "cannot find ethernet card" ; (2). It reported "cannot install continue" after the diskpartion step have been successed; (3). It said "netinstall may be a choice", so I say "Yes" and It really downloading something (543 files) and successed . After reboot, I loggin and cannot link to the internet. There is no such files ralated to netware config and I'm not able to config that, for I'm always only a bar finder in an meau.(shy a little, but this is ture). I do it 4 times and the situation and results are the same that I got a smallest netinstalled debian system on my computer and I cannot play music, cannot link to internet. I wonder: How could I install a real debian on my computer? Need I download anther version of iso file or do something that I do not know to makes it works. I can burn an iso image to a real CD by my old computer. I can also install OS such as mint via USB flash drive. In the computer Highly-Orangized world (already-wisdomed world), I have a body already but I've never been installed a sprit or a soul. So I really need to learn from you, from the great debian bbs, learn something of vital importance to take me into wise and freedom.

Debian Installation :: Install Script Can't Find Adduser

Jul 29, 2014

Just upgraded to wheezy from squeeze, and trying to resolve a few problems that appeared.

I get an error when installing pulseaudio (and a few other packages). Looks like the install script can't find 'adduser':

Code: Select allSetting up pulseaudio (2.0-6.1) ...
/var/lib/dpkg/info/pulseaudio.postinst: 22: /var/lib/dpkg/info/pulseaudio.postinst: adduser: not found
dpkg: error processing pulseaudio (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 127

If I 'sudo su -' then 'adduser' is on the path, so why can the install script not find it?
