I'm using netbook Acer Aspire One D250-0Bb pre-installed Windows XP. Now i have Gentoo. I have trouble with Xfce (lastest stable version) , where my keyboard don't react. I can move just with touchpad. I think, it's in X-server driver, but i can't find any information about that.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Fedora 12 x86 in an Acer Aspire One D250. Everything ran smoothly and was detected upon install but unfortunately after all updates were applied to it I ended with a device with no network connection (not even Ethernet).
This appears to be kernel-related because the old kernel (stock) works as expected. The problematic kernel version is (2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686).
Is there any known workaround for this? Or am I condemned to run this older kernel until the other one gets fixed?
Another question, in the event a new kernel comes out I'd like to keep to older one as a back up, how can I arrange that?

search showed all kinds of comments but few solutions most just claimed it worked or others tried madwifi without success.
I'm thinking of buying an Acer Aspire D250 loaded with Win7 and then adding a version of Ubuntu.
The netbook will come with the Acer recovery facility to reinstall Win7 from a recovery partition in the event of OS failure. This means that the MBR and subsequent loaders need to be preserved for this function to remain (I don't have a Win7 disc and don't want to have to buy one).
I'm happy with a basic Win/Linux dual boot setup but I'd value any comments/suggestions as to how to preserve the recovery function when I add Ubuntu.

I have had this issue before, and fixed it by booting into Windows XP SP3 and pressing and holding the power button down until the computer shuts down. (e.g. "Unclean or "Illegal" or "Cold" boot.) Unfortunately, not having Windows XP SP3 on my system anymore, I have to do this in Ubuntu. I have tried several times, and it is clearly not working. I don't want to try too many times more for fear of damaging my ext4 file system.
I looked for this issue on Google and found only driver problems, not device problems. There is no Ethernet option in the BIOS, except for the Network Boot, which should always show the device whether its in use or not. Is it silly to ask if Windows in a VM in an unclean shutdown may solve the problem? The driver for the device is currently supported by the kernel out of the box:

I have a new Acer Aspire One, model D250-1958. It uses the Atheros AR928X. I've tried Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04, as well as the conventional Ubuntu. Everything works beautifully, except no wireless. The netbook picks up the signal, but when I provide the Key it fails to connect, and eventually prompts me for the key again.
I've tried to research this on my own, but haven't found a solution. In particular, the solution reported by narnie for his Acer Aspire One D250-1584, <HERE>, didn't work for me.
I'd really like to get this working. The netbook will be much less useful if it can't make use of our wireless router.

The trick was to add "acpi_osi=" (without the quotation marks) to the GRUB parameters. Setting the parameter to an empty string means that no OS is reported to the BIOS. By default acpi_osi is set to Windows NT. Fresh install Ubuntu 10.10 on Acer Aspire 5050 with new hard drive. I struggled to turn the Wifi's button turn on but led light always on. It does not detect wifi driver. I installed ndiswrapper to get Acer's Winxp driver: netathr.inf by Windows Wireless Drivers from Ubuntu Software download. It's same thing as ndiswrapper.

I can't get my wireless card to work. I downloaded a broadcom driver for it and i do believe its the right one, but its not helped. I'm running mint 8. The information on my internal wireless card i got using the terminal is:

I've just worked out how to get the wireless card working with an Acer Aspire D260 wireless card to work.
Enter terminal command;
sudo apt-get install wifi-radar
Then reboot ubuntu 10.04 after it has installed, network manager should now detect wireless networks in range and allow connection, right click network manager icon and select "Enable Wireless" or "Disable wireless" as required to turn on or off. So many others have had problems getting the wifi to work with Acer Aspire D260 netbooks and ubuntu 10.04.
I have opensuse 11.2 installed in my AOD250, i want to install linuxmint 8 in a free partition, and dual boot the two linux.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 onto my Acer Aspire D260 netbook.I find it much easier to use than Windows 7.Everything has been working fine until I recently tried going on the internet via battery power instead of my A/C charger. My update manager is showing that I am up to date and Additional Drivers is showing that the Broadcom STA wireless driver is installed and in use.

When I try to install or just even try to load from the live CD from Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 9.10 remix the logo come up and screen goes black. I'm using a 4gig Sanddisk cruzer and I formated to fat32.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 4810T laptop with Intel graphics. I run openSUSE 11.3, and am about to upgrade to 11.4. But both systems still have a very bad bug with screen brightness. The Fn+Arrow keys do change screen brightness, but after using them the system is rendered extremely sluggish and unresponsive. This sluggishness is most pronounced with a very important Wine app I need to use. The only way to fix the sluggishness is to reboot. With 11.4, the problem is worse because the system boots and automatically partially dims the screen, thus making it even more necessary to change the brightness. Neither Gnome nor KDE are able to change the brightness via their power managers. This means that I can't dim my screen automatically upon disconnecting the A/C power.
I have read many experiences from Ubuntu and openSUSE users, who all have the same problem. I have tried both intellegacy and the new intel drivers, and they both have the problem. I have read that some users have improved the situation by upgrading or downgrading the BIOS. Others have been experimenting with kernel patches:

I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.
I recently installed openSuSE 11.2 on an Acer Aspire One, but when the installer try to start the new kernel with kexec it hang up, and if I reboot the system it hang up always, also says that the Acer BIOS is unknown.
View 3 Replies View Relatedin compliance with bonekracker's advice, i have reposted my SOS. i have the result of the outputs of the commands for ifconfig, iwconfig, and etc i have uploaded it in the file output.doc. i hope this would be helpful in debugging my problem.but before that, i do notice that if i click on the icon for the Network Manager, the Wireless networks is set to 'wireless disabled'. maybe if i can make it turn on, my wireless problem will be solved.. its just that i even if i move the switch for the wifi, it still wouldn't turn on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried to install the beta version of maverick with no luck. I used usb creator to put maverick on a memory stick. When I went into live mode everything worked perfectly so I thought why not install it. I then tried to do this but after filling out all the required info it wouldn't install. I clicked the install button and the installer froze up. I currently have ubuntu netbook remix (9.04) installed on it in desktop mode. I also, awhile ago, try installing lucid (both desktop and netbook remixes) and had a similar problem with them. They both stalled installing at the 15% mark. Now with this problem with maverick I am wondering why this could be happening. I have used different memory sticks so I have ruled that out as a problem. They all have worked flawlessly and speedily in live mode.
