Hardware :: D-Link DWA-643 And Belkin F5D8071 (Belkin N1) Master Mode?

Mar 11, 2011

I'm looking at buying one of the above cards, and was wondering if anyone knew if they worked in master mode (e.g. as an access point). According to the Aircrack-ng site, they support packet injection and monitor mode. Is master mode support solely up to the driver used with the card, or does the card have to physically support it?

Ubuntu Networking :: TP-Link Wifi USB Adapter: Cannot Setup It In Master Mode To Use PC As A Router

Jun 10, 2010

I got two issues with my wifi usb adapter:

1) it cannot see any networks around
2) i cannot setup it in master mode to use my PC as a router

As far as i can see, the device is recognized and the correct driver (rt73usb) is loaded. I was able to connect to a laptop somehow (the laptop could see other networks and the adapter's PC-to-PC network). I'd like to make it work as a router, i.e. share my internet connection (eth0) via wlan0. Here is what i have:

Ubuntu 10.04
Linux 2.6.32-22-generic #36-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jun 3 19:31:57 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux
TP-Link TL-WN321G wifi usb adapter as seen as

Ubuntu Networking :: D-link DWA-552 Master Mode On 10.04 - File Transfers Or Bandwidth Consuming Processes

May 20, 2010

after successfully configuring the dwa-552 to work in master mode in ubuntu 10.04 (ath9k driver) I ran some file transfer tests. The download speed is very good (~50mbps) but the upload speed spikes at about 10-20mbps for the first few KB and then it's nonexistent (0-1kbps). This only affects file transfers or otherwise bandwidth consuming processes. Normal web browsing or ssh is not affected. After running a speedtest of my internet connection which is routed through the AP I could upload to the internet with 1mbps which is my inet connection maximum so apparently this is not affected. Tried the same file transfers with netcat to eliminate any other factors and had the same problem. dmesg and hostapd debug did not report anything unusual

I used the GUI to load the rt3070 drivers rather than rpm. The GUI is easier I think and should be equivalent. Please let me know what else I need to do. Fedora has been great on my Lenovo but this usb wlan stuff has been a pain.

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Belkin N1 Router

Jun 23, 2010

I have a new belkin N1 router which I tested in somebody else's flat. It worked fine. When I got home I reset it by pushing a paperclip in the hole for 10+ seconds to erase this flat's internet connection settings (username and password and stuff). After this I plugged it the computer and tried to connect to it (wired connection) using (this is correct for that router, it is not But the browser says it is offline and cannot connect. The lights of the router cycle, the "modem router" light blinks continuously and the others briefly come on and go off again, every few seconds. I tried resetting it again, several times, leaving it off for a few hours, leaving it on for a few hours, etc.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin Surf & Share On 10.10?

Nov 4, 2010

It worked in 10.04 using ndiswrapper, but the connection was very weak (In Windows, it works perfectly). I blame ndiswrapper and the windows driver for the connection issues. In 10.10 x64, using ndiswrapper does not work. It says hardware present, but iwconfig shows no wlan0 adapter. I downloaded the driver from RealTek's website (rtl8192su) and compiled it. It gave a lot of warnings about integers being out of range, but I ignored them and went on anyway. If you want the exact warnings, I can put them on a pastebin and post the link tonight when I get home from work.

After doing a make install, I plugged in my adapter. As soon as it kicked on, the light on the adapter would blink and the screen would go black with a lone cursor in the top left corner of the screen. The drivers are obviously suspect, since I can make uninstall, plug in the adapter, and continue on with no network.Has anyone gotten this adapter/other adapters with the rtl8192su firmware working in 10.10 using a stock x64 install? It has to be stock or using packages available on the disk since without using the adapter, I have no internet.Maybe I'll try the drivers on 10.04 and see if they're just not compatible with 10.10.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin F7d1101 Will Not Connect?

Mar 5, 2011

I'm having a slight problem with my new wireless card that I purchased. I installed the firmware and the like and it does work, my computer recognizes it and I can search through my available networks, only thing is though.I cannot connect to any of them. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with it obtaining an ip address though.because it does connect briefly and I read the status and it shows no IP address, but when I connect through wired internet all that information is available. I tried setting my network configuration to static and that didn't help at all. I'm only a week into Ubuntu so this is all still fairy confusing for me.

Ubuntu Networking :: Belkin N150 Won't Work / What To Fix This?

Jul 27, 2011

I have a belkin n150 usb wireless adapter that doesn't seem to work. I have searched for a solution on this and other forums, but the advice is either too confusing/long for my noob brain, or applies to older versions and no longer works.

I am running ubuntu 11.04, the usb device shows up on lsusb so I know it's there, but I can't get it to work. I have installed ndiswrapper and put in the driver from the cd, didn't work. I downloaded the RT2870 linux drivers, tried sudo make and sudo make install and that didn't work (I probably didn't install correctly).

Ubuntu :: Crappy Belkin N150 Router?

Jun 18, 2011

I joined this forum so I can say my experience with the crappy belkin N150 router. It appears you need to run the setup cd under windows to make the router 'see' the modem. Under linux as someone pointed out you can easily enter the router setup from a browser ( enter ) and connect to the router only (wired or wireless connection) but not the internet. Does anyone have any idea what the windows setup is doing to connect the router to the modem and how to do it under linux in the browser?

Hardware :: Compiling Driver For Belkin USB Router?

Oct 2, 2010

I have a old laptop Dell C600 PIII 800mhz 256mb RAM 20Gb HDD and a floppy drive. It has 1 USB port and no wifi card.

I bought the Belkin F6D4050 v1 usb wireless adapter so that I could use it on the above laptop and connect to my wireless network at home. The Belkin USB wireless adapter has a Ralink xchipset

There was no specific Linux driver available but a workaround for an old driver worked. Some changes to the code and compiling gets the wireless adapter to work.
I have installed Arch on the laptop. I compiled it and its working fine

Questions 1.Arch linux releases new image only once or twice a year I have downloaded the latest available arch image and built froms scratch. When I update Arch (as it is a rolling release) the kernel also gets updated and the compiled driver fails to work. I have to recompile again for the new kernel. Is there a way I can compile this driver in the existing Arch or any other distro kernel and use as long as I can without updating so I do not have to recompile again

Networking :: Can't Ping Belkin F5D7234-4 Router

Jun 30, 2011

I have a Belkin wireless router model F5D7234-4 version 5. I switched to DHCP long enough to access the router via Firefox browser and look at all the settings. I turned off all encryption and other security related functions in order to just get it going. The IP of the router is which is the default for this router. It is set to channel 6. I can not ping the router from either of two machines using regular ethernet or wireless. I have very limited experience with routers and am in need of help so I can use this for wireless connection to my living room box to my laptop in the bedroom about 50 feet away.

I tried changing the gateway from the living room box IP number to the router IP number with no success. I don't have anything connected to the internet port on the router. The living room box and the laptop are connected to the ethernet ports on the router. Ethernet works fine. Wireless does not. I compiled and installed the drivers for my wireless card on the laptop, a Realtek 8176 which uses the kernel modules rtl8192ce, rtlwifi and mac80211. ifup wlan0 brings up the wlan interface with these modules loaded. Right now I just want to be able to ping the router using regular ethernet. That would tickle me pink at this point. I downloaded the manual but I just can't seem to make headway.
